A Woman’s Trickery

When comparing the amount of Japanese and Korean dramas I watch to the amount of Thai lakorns that I watch, I found that it is a minority amongst my completed titles. I would say that most of us MDListers have a more dominant country when picking out dramas... but once in a while we take a break and cross certain borders in Dramaland and with that we are able to benefit from the hidden gems in a different country’s entertainment.

Now I know what you're thinking. What the hell is she talking about? Different countries? Borders? Is this a geography lesson? Well I'm pleased to say, no its not. What I'm saying is; why not take the chance and change countries once in a while? If you always watch Korean dramas, try a Taiwanese one. If you're obsessed with Japanese dramas then change to a Korean one. It’s refreshing to try different genres and countries once in a while. Dramaland is much bigger and more diverse than you think!

And with that, today I present to you A Woman’s Trickery aka Leh Ratree 2015; a current buzz amongst Thai nationals and us international viewers. The premise on the surface is very typical: with a super rich, cold but hot guy falling for a not-so-rich, debt ridden, and kind-hearted girl. But of course it’s a lot more complicated than that or else we wouldn’t be watching

We begin with an enamoured main lead, Sake Suttagarn, uncovering the major betrayals in his life. At home his much beloved wife turns out to be a manipulative gold digger who lied about her pregnancy to get married and faked miscarriage knowing all along that she is incapable of conceiving a child. At work a trusted employee is embezzling funds. This employee happens to be the father of our main female lead and due to his gambling debts as well as his fraud at the company he desperately sends his daughter, Kate, to work off his debts at the Suttagarn household.

Sake (Sean Jindachote), as previously stated above, is your typical male lead, oozing with charisma but suffering from previous scars caused by his ex-wife. He’s got a soft spot for Kate and slowly but gradually shows glimpses of his loving and caring side. Sean really does an excellent job of portraying all of the conflicting emotions that Sake generally holds back from others, including himself, making him one of the most complex characters in the show.

Kate (Esther Supreeleela), in contrast to Sake, is an adorable character who is able to communicate her feelings in an honest and straightforward manner. She’s not afraid to speak up for herself, which adds confidence and strength to her character. She is not just kind but is also a clever young lady who strives for happiness for herself and her family.

Satayu aka Pu (Jespipat Tilapornputt) is also a straightforward and honest character. However, he is quick to react and thinks about things later. He’s a childhood friend of Kate, whom everyone, including himself, expected Kate to get married to.

Pakinee aka Pa (Keerati Mahapreukpong)  is Sake’s spoilt sister. She is a high class and independent woman who cares for her brother but unwillingly gets involved with Pu’s love life due to the two of them working on a project together. The two of them have a potentially sweet relationship going on. Side note: Keerati and Jespipat are dating in real life so their chemistry is exploding onscreen!

Sake and Pa’s not-as-evil-as-she-first-seems mother is a central character to the show. She gets the plot moving with her decisive nature and though she is not always morally correct by certain standards of conduct, she brings a special light to the show with her hatred for Idsala and her adoration for the relationship between her son Sake and Kate. She's like a secret shipper. She won’t show it in front of them but secretly she’s squealing inside. It’s hilarious and adorable when she attempts to regain composure and a straight face when she hears of their always improving relationship!

Idsala (Chaowalit Pitchaya) is Sake’s ex-wife who was kicked out when he found out she was only interested in his money. She lied to him and faked pregnancy and a miscarriage which is unforgivable, however she knows that she has a hold on his heart and does everything in her power to get his money him back.
