Those Impossible Drama Things...

That You'd Never Do in Real Life

Hi! It´s my first article here on MDL, so I really want to do something good… :D

While watching various dramas you notice things that are done in dramas that are either impossible and illogical or that people – especially Koreans and Japanese – would never ever do!

Of course everybody knows, that in dramas (not only in Asian dramas but generally in dramas) the actors exaggerate with things and almost everywhere there are things that don´t make sense and things that just aren't true and don't reflect the real culture or how the people really behave. I don´t want to say that everything is a lie in dramas, no absolutely not, there still is some truth in the middle of that exaggeration. I believe in saeguks you won´t find so much exaggeration that are almost lies, but I'm not so sure.

1. Tiny Cities

Who doesn't know that from dramas: you had an argument with somebody and you keep seeing that certain person everywhere while walking through Seoul for example.

I always thought Seoul is huge…. But seriously, if we see that Seoul has a population of hmm some million, then it is quite illogical that you would always run into the other person.

2. Stuff-Leaver

It´s always ok to leave your stuff everywhere, although you may have very important documents in your bag!

I even search for stuff that isn't so precious and important to me if I lose it!

3. Phone Calls

As everybody knows, in Korea and Japan the people are very polite, but in dramas you always see people hanging up in the middle of an important phone call.

I´m not convinced about that the Koreans do that in real life. I mean, even I don´t hang up in the middle of an important phone call and I´m not even a Korean!

4.Travelling

This is something that also appears in Japanese animes! Not every anime and dramas has such a reaction, but some do. In real life Asian parents are really strict (I know that from own experience, I'm half Asian and I also know that from many Asian friends) but for example in “K-ON! The Movie” (Japanese anime movie about a high school band) that I watched not so long ago the band wants to fly to London for a band trip and they don´t even go home to discuss that subject in person, nor do they ask for permission over the phone and – omg, whoever expected this – the parents immediately agreed to it!

I don´t know if I´m the only one, but my parents would tell me to think about it again and then they would take months to decide such a thing! And often I don´t get the permission!

5. Drinks and Food

Of course in every drama the characters go to a café or a restaurant at least once, but they always only talk and leave without taking their coffee-to-go with them!

I mean, hello? Ok I am a forever hungry and go crazy almost every time I see delicious looking food, but you even PAID for that food or drink and didn't even touch it! Give it to me if you don´t want it or don´t even buy it!!

6. Reading and Studying

Sometimes there is a scene where the person wants to study or read, so they always open the book at a random page.

Do they have magic powers or something or why is it always the right page? I myself have to search for a while for the right page!

7. Drag Through the City

Of course, together with hanging up in the middle of the phone call you can always grab the other person by the wrist and drag her through the whole city!

I know that actually that is a no-go in Korea and Japan!

8. Clothes Size

What the most creepiest thing is, that whenever you spill something on your clothes or they get torn (always a girl), the guy always knows your clothes size! And also if you want to buy clothes for friends or so, you always grab random clothes and it's the right size.

Can´t they tell me how they do that, I want to be able to do that too! >.<
