Hearty Paws (2006)

This is probably "the best film with dogs in it" ive seen..and its probably better than the film "Hachiko" even its a true story. (oops...but Hachiko's ending is one of a kind)

note: the above is just a bit exagerated by me

The dog alone should probably win best actor award :)

This movie is cute but heavy in scenarios and emotions and sometimes unpredictable because often suspenseful and touching that even a person with a metal heart will melt.

This film is sweet, sad, poignant & emotionally draining.

The three main players are Chan, his litle sister Soi & their dog Hearty. All three are absolutely fantastic in each of their roles. The bond between the three of them is shown so well in the first half of this film.
I don't want to spoil you but something really unexpected happens which is totally heartbreaking, I don't think I have recovered yet from THAT event. What follows is both tragic and uplifting.

I think if you aren't moved to tears by this film or at least get a lump in your throat then you must be dead inside like Chandler Bing hahaha

This movie captures the loyalty of a dog, even when an owner doesn’t want that loyalty. The love that Hearty gave to his owners was immeasurable and touching. My rating can’t be higher, simply because of how saddening this was. There was more animal abuse than I wanted to see, which is what was so heartbreaking. I thought the younger actors and actresses did a great job with their performances. If you love dogs, or animals in general, be prepared to cry watching this. I could hardly look at my own dog the day after I watched this. Maybe I’m making this movie sound too sad, it just hit me at the wrong time. Good luck!

STORYLINE: 6/10
Hearty is a dog that literally strengthens the children of the ??? family. The kind of loyal dog that never allows you to feel lonely even when faced with the tragedies of life.

CHARACTERS: 8/10 -- ACTING: 6/10… ??? 8.7/10
At such a young age ??? character presence lingers throughout the whole film that I found myself saddened and low for the majority of the film each time I remembered. ??? potrayed the mannerism of my brother, giving me a familiar vibe of both loathing (when he teased Soi), pure brotherly love (when his spirit/ life purpose seized to exist) or even the sadness (watching him tackle the memories/reality Hearty represented).

LIKED – The character Soi – her interaction with Hearty made the dog shine.
DISLIKED – The predictableness of the storyline after the tragedy. The plot just lacked the fan factor it had built that I lost the connection to care for I quickly became aware that my heartstrings were going to be pulled by the writer/ director… creating the predictable feeling

CONCLUSION:
You should watch this drama if you enjoy good child acting – family – tragedy – dogs – slice of life – hope – melodrama – abandonment – willpower.

I always think I can handle animal movies, and I never can. Heart Paws was no exception.
If this movie doesn't make you cry I would say it's safe to assume absolutely nothing else will.

The focus of Hearty Paws is on emotions, both the characters' and the viewer's. The plot is essentially very simple, the flesh of the movie being how it makes you feel.

Yoo Seung Ho as Chan was outshone only by Dolly, the Labrador cast as Hearty. I think it's important to throw out there that training a dog as exceptionally well as Dolly is trained is no easy feat.
That aside, Yoo Seung Ho did a phenomenal job as the only (human) character with a substantial role.

As a side note, just so there's no confusion, most English translations of this movie refer to Hearty as a "he" but she is in fact a female dog. It's "he" in the gender-neutral way.
