Romantic love
This drama gave you all the romantic vibe that you craved. At first I thought it will flop like the Korean version that people trashed about, but when I give it a chance to watch, I was surprised on how romantic it will be.The love that get portrayed by each of the character is getting through.
Nevertheless, if you're a sucker for romantic love, give this a try

Me surpreendeu !!
Emotional and different
Let me begin by saying that this is not Nevertheless, it's completely different from the source material and I mean the webtoon not the Korean adaptation,So if you want to watch it because you loved the webtoon/kdrama, you will find something else.
That alone made me rate it less than I intended to, because it's not a direct adaptation, it copied a few elements from the original webtoon and the rest is new.
Now judging the whole thing starting with the changes in the story. Is it bad? Nope, not at all, I dare say it's actually a better story than the original, and if they were brave enough to ignore the source material completely and adjust the story a little, it'd be much better, hell, it'd be perfect.
Alas that it's not the case here, at some point I thought ok this is nevertheless, and in others I thought nope that's new, this state of confusion made me wonder how shall I rate this? Like should I compare it to the source or just ignore it?
To elaborate a little on this, some points that confused me a lot like the lack of attention given to the art, weird I know but they didn't explain what their arts represent, what does it means, I see some scribbles and they say wow! 🤯
Shall I be impressed now? I mean don't get me wrong but I'd appreciate if you explain more, how is this good art, why is this great, what did it represent?
Also the side stories that got disregarded after being completely presented in a very shallow way, if you don't want to show the side stories, don't! And focus only on the main characters story, I was surprised when Osakabe and Hikari disappeared suddenly, Ruki too was gone to give more space for the two leads interactions.
You don't have to burn the candle from both ends, if you can't show a character properly, don't make him a main.
So I believe the story could be much better if they just break free from the webtoon shadow, because them wanting to include elements from the webtoon (like the side stories and the main theme like the butterfly that didn't have any importance or influence on the ML nor did they give a reason of his love for them) was unnecessary.
Now I don't have any other complaints about acting or characters, the things they changed are acceptable and all actors did great.
I also - surprisingly - recommend it, if you are into this romantically melancholic stories and basically haven't read the webtoon.

This should have been called Ryusei Yokohama's gaze
The following is based on personal opinion of 4 episodes that I managed to watch:After watchin 52 episodes of The last Empress,a drama which was on crack to say the least
I wanted something extremely calming and where else can you get that except in Japan.
I remembered I had this on my PWL so I pressed play knowing that I was one of the few people
who didnt actually mind the Korean version..cos I have no issue with red flags that are redeemed.
Moving on,I watched Ep 1-3,and went straight to the last episode.Maybe because I knew all the
angst and frustration that was coming but also I was missing that camaraderie and group love
that was in the K-drama version.
Ruysei Yokohama's Aura overpowered the rest of the cast,It felt like there was a disconnect between him
and the rest.He is extremely talented and is good with heavy roles, probably he was overqualified for the this
or maybe I have watched way too many dramas that I cringed every time he looked into the FL's soul..
with the heavy gaze,a scene that was over used to be honest.
Overall,I think the other one was better in terms of screenplay and cast.I love Ryysei but lets just say
ths wasnt for me

Artistic Vision of Love
Nevertheless: The Shape of Love (2024) is a Japanese remake of the Korean drama "Nevertheless" (2021). The first thing you may notice is the quality and level of tenderness the series conveys. The show is somewhat nostalgic and visually lush with seemingly endless gorgeous shots and background scenery. As a drama it was very high quality, with excellent cinematography and lighting, beautiful music, compelling cast of characters and a subtle but moving storyline. This JDrama was a real treat. The film style was very polished and portrayed a lush, hazy, dreamlike atmosphere. The story, although compelling, was very much a slice-of-life story.
"Ren Kosaka, a young talented artist, arrives in Kamakura, Japan for a temporary lecturer position. His aura attracts people, yet he keeps distance. When he meets a woman, his emotions change despite knowing the potential consequences."
This drama was full of heart and soul, dealing with the little intricacies of varied relationships. It was very sweet and touching series that I'm glad I stumbled across. Very artistic and of higher quality. Gice it a chance!

Storia d'amore contorta ...
e lentissima.

A Visually Stunning Romance with Flaws in Chemistry and Execution
The series is truly stunning and visually beautiful, and the lead actor is exceptionally captivating. Episodes 2-6 were mesmerizing in terms of attraction and romance, evoking a great sense of excitement and butterflies. However, there was always a lingering sense of doubt because it’s quite possible they aren’t a good match. She looks unnatural, and something feels off, while he says beautiful words that seem insincere. Until the very last minute, there’s a strong sense of forced chemistry between them. There’s absolutely no comparison between this deep and compelling creation and the shallow, boring, and overly flashy Korean version. It seems like the Japanese are striving lately to acquire works from other countries and are using all their extraordinary skills and abilities to maximize what can’t always be perfected. You can’t turn every stone into a diamond. In this case, they came close, but unfortunately, there were many issues with the dialogues, which were so clearly Korean due to their endless cheesiness. That particular scene where everything halts in episode 7 marked the beginning of the decline. To their credit, they tried in episode 8 to restore the charm, and it partially worked, but the shallow dialogue and lack of chemistry between the leads were still evident.
In general, everyone’s acting was excellent, and the other couples were charming, attractive, and even very interesting in my opinion. The music, however, was not good and very annoying. It’s a shame it didn’t feel fully Japanese, coming off instead as a cheap American imitation.
Overall, it’s worth watching, even twice. The Japanese excel in expressing romance and are masters of combining it with art, which they do very successfully here.

It's probably a square... or a circle.. not that complex of a shape
I firstly will just say, I am likely only have started this for Ryousei Yokohama. I have watched a handful of his works and the guy is just so captivating to me. I assumed that he'd be just as captivating in this Japanese drama adaptation of the Korean Drama and webtoon Nevertheless... and I was right! Now this could get people upset at me.. but I honestly think this drama is much better than its counterpart. With the Korean version, it was a bit lengthy and therefor boring. It was boring but had great aesthetics. I will say that the original soundtrack for the Korean drama is a whole lot better, but this one gives the same aesthetic and reaches in on a deeper level. Let me explain why.
Now in the Korean version I found it overall a frustrating drama. Here and there the female lead isn't much of anything, she really doesn't have much development and is boring, naive, and stays that way! The actress here does a good job with the timidness, but to a point I wonder how exactly she lets loose and sleeps with with the ML? Here she seems a whole lot more conservative to me.. I don't know if it is the styling or not. I found it annoying in both how much focus there are on butterflies, and honestly I think the story just doesn't know what exactly it even is. Like this is NOT a romance to me, I am seriously unnerved by both portrayals of the ML, and I am sure that their respective actors knew that they were playing a lead that is a serious red flag. So my take is that maybe, just maybe, this is more of a cautionary tale.. but I know that is just not the case.
The Shapes of Love is nice with the side characters coupling up, unfortunately the main pairing is seriously unnerving that I am creeped out and left with a perpetual raised brow at whatever scene is going on between the two. I can say I like the characterization of the ML better in this adaptation.
You wonder why he is so liked, so 'special, and so arrogant. The guy seems like a fantasy man, like I wonder what seriously goes through his head. He seems to do whatever he wants without thinking he will have concequences, and has serious pretty privilege. Yokohama is very pretty, so good job with the casting there. He has got the looks to be a this seductive guy, as his visuals and gaze can play into that character very well. I like the changes where he is now an established artist that has succeeded. Put into the setting of college students who are pursing their passions with an uncertain future, it makes sense why people are jealous, and why people admire him. Ren is a successful artist, unlike the Korean drama, he has a reason to be there. He is a substitute teacher and a character that the others look up to in terms of his artistry and talent. When it comes to the ladies.. I wouldn't say anything more than being frustrated with his tactics (if that is what you call it). I don't see a sense why this had to be made, a frustrating tale in every way equals a frustrating drama. I can say I like the minor changes of aging up the characters and shifting the story. It would make a whole lot more sense to me if they could just change the story entirely... maybe have the perspective be Ren.. so you can see why he is so off-putting and arrogant.
Make something different, tell a different story. At this point it is just the same thing, a little better though! It has great production value! The good things are what they are, and it isn't bad.. it is just like.. why was this made? I don't know.. I am glad to see Ryousei on screen honestly, I could watch him all day haha. I wish he would do a melodrama.. but alas...
I kind of think it is supposed to be cautionary about not letting yourself be timid, but also not letting yourself think you are something you aren't. Like no one is special, not even this mystery man who is perfect.. he is just a guy.. we are all people.. I am just so confused here.
It is unfortunate to me when I see a competent cast with a great budget using itself towards something like this. A. it was done before. B. it was done and wasn't even good. This story simply is one that doesn't need to be told or retold. Each adaptation I believe was missing what was trying to be told. Or maybe there wasn't something to be told anyways?

Absolutely hated this version. I was not their target audience
I already knew I was going to hate this drama with how much they changed the plot from the Korean ver to the Japanese ver. I knew from ep 1. I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt cuz the acting was good but once they gave Ren's childhood friend aka ex gf terminal cancer it was an absolute nope for me. The ruined the whole point why the Korean version was good and made the whole series about Ren fulfilling the dying wish of HIS DAMN EX GF. That he wasn't even invested in Miu who he was sort of maybe dating who know cuz it was actually about Ren and Chiaki this whole time but you don't find out til the 6th ep.I wish Asia would stop killing off their characters it's been played out since I started watching Asian films/dramas back in 2006. Right when I saw child Chiaki with a hat on and a hospital scene I knew straight away she had cancer and they where gonna kill her off. It's been done way to many times even in music videos. I was really hoping I didn't have to see that stupid plot be used again along with car accidents either with death or amnesia.
This felt like a completely different show, the shared some elements with the Korean version and the name for the most part but this is a no for me. I definitely don't recommend this to anyone. It was rushed on top of everything else too both in episode length and with how many episodes there are.
