What makes us fall in love and stay in love
Sukina Otoko to Wakaretai is a drama which explores how love is found and kept in today's materialistic society. It's short, with episodes running for about 20 minutes each and there's only 12 of them so it's quite easy to watch, even if you decide to binge it. And since it aired late, it has some steamy scenes which were also quite a nice surprise.
But watching it as it's been airing has been a breath of fresh air. While yes, all of the characters in the show are flawed, I wouldn't have it any other way. They make wrong choices, they say the wrong things - they are human. Nothing is exaggerated to the point of being unbelievable.
I feel like this drama wants to convey to people to remember why they fell in love with the people they did and how trying to change them due to societal pressure often doesn't lead to positive results. At least when it comes to their core personalities. Is such love always sustainable? Who knows. It's all a gamble anyways. But at least there's no regrets.

Just the same
I really thought this drama would have a better ending. It is just ok, nothing special. After so much struggle and pain, Ikuko accepted Hiroji just the way he was and Nana did same about Ichi. It seems like they kinda gave up of communicating with their partners and setting new goals for future and their relationships and decided to stay at the same place just because is easier. They didn't look happy or satisfied, they're just resigned to the fact they're not getting anything better from their respective partners.
Will it be enough for them in future? Won't these women blame their partners afterwards when life issues knock on their doors?
In my opinion, relationship is not about money or status or whatever you got, but you must be happy and proud of the person you are with and both partners must try to find a balance to build such a healthy environment for each other. So, setting goals for the relationship and for one another is an important thing to do.
Hiroji's attitude towards life is not balanced as he helps everybody around him but doesn't make a move to improve his personal life and find a job to build a future with his partner. It is as if he lost his hope in life long ago and Ikuko seems like she wanted more from Hiroji but as she is not getting it, she accepted what he has to offer her as long as she is with him. So did Nana.
Is this such a happy ending?
