drama of the year goes to…
Another highly anticipated drama that thankfully I can say is delivering! It is even going over the delivering and serving to me on a nice silver platter... let me explain..So I have been going through a BL drought. Heck, a drama drought. K-dramas at this time have sucked the life out of me with their uninteresting and predicable plots, poor execution, and the fact that I watch and wonder.. why does something like this need to be made? What purpose is there other than to make money? Have famous leads in it to lure people in to end up being a total heaping pile of garbage.... so.. this drama COULD have been that. I mean the lead couple is famous and have starred in another successful project. The plot is darker and a bit of a niche in the BL industry. To do something outside of the classic romantic comedy genre of high school or college. Let me just get this straight. This drama is one of those that I think serves a purpose. I am glad it is made wonderfully and it clearly isn't pandering to its audience with chalked up fan service. So this drama is one that deserves to be made, it also is respectful to its audience and that is clear with the production level.
Other than that, production is one thing. Plenty of dramas look good but don't have the story to back it up. This one has witty dialogue that is just smart. Each character is written differently and it is believable they are different people. The people behind the screenplay are amazing, as even in scenes of just talking, the actors are giving the script to play off each other to look like they are having fun portraying their given roles. Some of the drama is a little unbelievable, but not to the point it is distracting or god awful. The plot gives it room to have fun, and the fact that there is a romance hidden somewhere in here leaves room for intrigue. I don't really care about the technicalities here, because the story just hasn't been done before. It is completely brand new to me as I have maybe read some concepts here and there that are similar to the story, but as a whole I haven't watched anything like this.
To keep it short I just have to praise the main leads, their acting capabilities, the camerawork, direction.. nothing is out of place. The camera work is shot beautifully that even when a set isn't too extravagant, the lighting goes a long way to bring atmosphere to the scene.
War is the standout actor here for me. He has so much charisma and is the guy that looks like he's having the most fun with his role. What a fun role it is too. Joke is by far my favorite characters, and his counterpart isn't lacking anywhere by the way. Jack is more reserved and Yin plays that wonderfully as well. Their dynamic is not only fun, I can sense some desire between them only a few episodes in. It makes me want to see them get to know each other and have a fallout and all that drama. I can't wait to watch it all unfold...
Getting back to this I must say, I am really aw struck by everything this drama has to offer. Knowing that the leads invested their own money confirms the fact that care is put behind this. THAT is why it is special. The people behind the show clearly care for the end result and have done it for their fans. Yet the show doesn’t flash fan service or pander, it is smartly written and honestly fantastic. I am enjoying all aspects and that definitely includes the comedy. All the way around this drama it has something to offer. Complain about it not being what you expected or not, but Yin and War offered the end result as a love letter to fans and you can tell they are having fun doing so. I can’t believe those who criticize such an honest effort. Like seriously, if you want a serious dark drama, go watch a kdrama. The humor adds to the story and it literally is a part of Joke’s character and his inability to take his own life seriously. The guy literally believes all he is good at is stealing.
You can really tell competent people are behind this with all the attention to detail and foreshadowing. It’s not a drama that forces things at you and tells you exactly what is going on. The actors portray their feelings to get across an excellent slow burn with amazing action scenes. Seriously the choreography is beat for beat as well as knowing the actors do it themselves. The time and energy behind this work is insane and I was interested to read up on it to confirm the fact that Yin and War really cared for this project and their fans. More than a love letter it is an amazing drama.
What this drama is good at is everything. I enjoy it all with earnestly and look forward to each episode. That is a gift to me; as this isn’t a cheap product made for money. It is a great drama even. I will go on and on when I can type to my hearts content.

Yin & War will steal your heart
The best way to sum up this show is to say it's a breath of fresh air. I know we've gotten quite a few action based BLs ever since the Kinn Porsche hype, but none of them really held my attention for long. This show, on the other hand, has me squealing, crying, and more invested in the lives of fictional characters than I probably should be.It's not a perfect show, but it doesn't really matter because it has one major thing going for it: the acting. Honestly, everyone is great in their roles, but the stars of the show are undoubtedly Yin and War. I knew they were solid actors with decent chemistry, but in this they're phenomenal. They both embody their characters so well, portray emotion in realistic ways, have so much charisma, and fantastic comedic timing. But what's even more impressive is their chemistry. It's been quite a while since I've witnessed that much chemistry between two actors. There aren't just sparks, no. These two could burn a house down. And the best thing is that they don't even need scenes that rely on physical intimacy to portray that. All they need is talking to each other (or well, fighting with each other because damn, they were just flirting), and sparks are flying left, right, and centre. It was obvious from the first scene they had together (their conversation at the bar), persisted through the scenes where one hated the other (without the chemistry diminishing the conflicting emotions), and is still going strong by the end.
Another special mention goes to Pee as Hope. While he does get some sort of redemption arc, he was horrible for the first part of the show, and I wanted to hate him. I really did. It's just that Pee makes him so charming and charismatic that I couldn't. I call this the Vegas dilemma, because Bible made it impossible to hate that guy, too.
I will say, if you're looking for a BL with a lot of romantic scenes, you won't find it here. At least not at the start. Because they go through a journey from instant infatuation to hatred to trust and love, there aren't many "fluffy" scenes in the first few episodes. Episode 6 then makes up for all that by giving you all the domestic wholesomeness, and I was eating it up. Their relationship definitely isn't smooth sailing after that, so there are a lot of angsty scenes instead of romantic ones. But even if there aren't as many cute scenes as in a campus BL for example, it doesn't really matter, because Yin and War make every scene they share together electric. So I'd rather have a few really solid romantic scenes than drawn out, washed out, lacklustre scenes with zero chemistry like so many other BLs tend to deliver these days.
Another thing to love about the show is its characters. Specifically them feeling like actual people with actual feelings and lives, not just walking stereotypes. Jack and Joker are obviously the most fleshed out, but most of the side characters also get more than just one defining trait. It's also refreshing that most of them are morally gray. This makes the whole show more emotionally complex, and makes the viewer think about some moral dilemmas. It's not the height of complex characters, but if you compare it to the standard most BLs have, it feels like these people are deep as the Atlantic Ocean, honestly.
But not just the characters, also their dynamics are interesting. Of course there's the whole forgiveness arc between Jack and Joker, but there are also interesting parent-child and friendship dynamics. I also really liked the dynamic between Jack and his coach. Granted, most of those aren't explored as much as I would've liked, but at least there was an attempt.
If you're a lover of action in shows, I'm not sure whether you'll like this. The heists they pull are fun to watch for me, aka someone who doesn't really care about the ins and outs of robbery etc. But even I realise that a lot of things don't really make all that much sense. There's a severe lack of security cameras and guards, for example. The show also uses Hannah Montana logic, because apparently if someone is wearing a wig and sunglasses, you won't recognise them anymore. For me, it's easy to look past that because it's entertaining, but for some it might be really bothersome, so I figured I'd mention it. There's also the problem that severe injuries are treated as minor ones. Characters who get beaten black and blue move with ease the next scene. That sort of robs you from a bit of suspense, because you know when someone gets smashed up, they'll be fine the next day.
I do think that the first half of the show is stronger in what it's trying to do. It does get a bit repetitive after that and a bit unhinged. Though Jack continuously trying and failing to get out of the criminal cycle he's in does feel like a somewhat realistic portrayal. Still, I think the show would've been better if it were only 8 to 10 really good episodes, instead of starting to meander.
I've seen many people discuss whether the humour of the show is a good or bad thing. Personally, I enjoy some of it but it does get a little too cringe at times (like manic, evil cackling). Personally, I like when an otherwise heavy/dark show throws in enough humour to lighten the whole thing up a bit. I appreciated it about Kinn Porsche, and I appreciate it here. However, some of it does clash a little bit too harshly with the otherwise grittier vibe. For example, I think that Arun is a bit too over the top, kind of like Tankhun from Kinn Porsche. I was kind of disappointed by how they handled his character since they never really committed to exploring the troubled relationship with his father, and he got adjusted to a life without money way too easily. Speaking of Kinn Porsche, though, Vegas' dad would definitely get along swimmingly with Arun's dad. Maybe Arun and Vegas could start a support group for children of abusive mafia fathers.
When I talk about the "grittier" vibes, I mean the show not shying away from depicting the reality of poverty and other social issues. Obviously, it's a bit extreme and sometimes very unsubtle, but it feels nice to get a more realistic depiction of the world than all the perfect utopias many other BLs create for their characters to live in. Seriously, the worst thing that can happen to most BL leads is a bit of rain that leads to a cold. Which would lead to a homoerotic sponge bath, and who would want that, right? Speaking of sponge baths, this series doesn't rely on old, tired BL cliches and tropes which also makes it feel unique and fresh.
Another positive is the beautiful styling and cinematography. The series is shot beautifully, and the editing is on point, too. No needless flashbacks for once, which I appreciate. They started the story where it needed to start, then flashed forward to where they needed to be, instead of filling the whole damn thing with flashback after flashback (I'm looking at you, First Note Of Love). There are some fun twists in there, and the show moves at a pretty decent pace, though sometimes it is a bit fast for me, and I would like some more downtime for the characters to just build their bonds. And it does fall off its course a little by the end, if you ask me.
Even thought there are flaws, I was thoroughly entertained, and each episode, I fell more and more in love with Yin and War. They were always on my radar, but this show has catapulted them to be my second favorite BL ship currently (only second to FirstKhaotung, because they are my one true loves). All in all, I had a great time with this series. It's not a perfect show, but in the sea of the same stories being told over and over again in Thai BL, this feels different enough to stand out in a positive light. And since I'm a very chemistry driven BL watcher, this one is a massive treat. Bravo!

Impressive under every aspect
This is by far one of the best thai production of this year and frankly one of the best I've ever seen: with a very strong and well written plot, an exceptional acting performance from the whole cast and a well developed romance, Jack & Joker sets a new high for plot-focused BL dramas that don't want to simply tell a romanitc story. As I already said, the plot is very complex, with many socially and politically aware messages throughout, with many high-tension moments, action-filled sequences and tear jerking moments; at the same time, the romance, although not the focal point of the story, is a very well written and devoleped slow burn, with a very detailed characterization of both the main leads and many romantic and rewarding moments. One of the strenghts of this drama is indeed the way both the action/heist plot and the romance are well devoleped, without any of the two remaining half-cooked.
Acting-wise, this was just overall phenomenal: although all the crew did a fantastic job at portraying their characters, Yin and War were absoultely breath taking, delivering one of the strongest acting performance I've ever witnessed in a thai production. War is especially good as Joke, and he shines particularly during his most dramatic scenes, and is in my opinion the highlight of the whole drama.
In the end, this is absoultely a must-watch for BL fans that are getting a bit tired of the same old romantic stories and want something refreshing and never predictable. Highly recommended!

A true masterpiece from start to finish
I absolutely love this series. It's definitely one of the best (if not the best) Thai show I've ever watched, under every aspect: the writing, the plot, the acting, the characters. Everything is extremely well done.I'll start by saying that if you're looking for a cute series to watch because you simply like two see two pretty boys kissing then this one is probably not for you. I saw way too many people complaining that Jack and Joke don't get together until way too late in the series, andthat there's too much and not enough romance plot; but the point is that this show isn't a romance - sure, the romance is there and it's extremely important, but there's also a very heavy and important plot that is what makes the show move forward.
But, if you're looking for something different from the usual Thai drama, then this might be for you. Because Jack and Joker doesn't follow the usual Thai drama narrative structure and frees itself from all the classic tropes, both plot-wise and romance-wise.
The story deals with a lot of deep and different themes, and it touches upon them with care and attention: poverty, class difference, rich people and the power they hold are the main obvious themes of the show, tied directly to the main plot; but it's also a show about forgiveness, about family, about education, and so many other things it would be difficult to list them all here. Yet it manages to deal with them all in a complete way, nothing feels half-done or thrown in there just because. Frankly, the more I think about it the more I find new things to analyze and think about - it really gives you food for your thoughts.
At the same time, though, it's not a heavy show: the drama and heaviness of the story is perfectly balanced with some more goofy scenes, so it never feels heavy or too much to watch. It's heartbreaking in some aspects, it will make you suffer in some scenes, yes, but it will also make you laugh and in general give you a sense of hope - hope that things will be okay and that it's worth living despite everything that is wrong in the world.
Both Jack and Joke are fantastic characters: they're realistic and flawed as every human is, they make mistakes and they try to fix what they did wrong; both of them have a beautiful character arc that make them grown during the story. I could write whole essays about each of them and their relationship, really. The slow burn of their romance made me go crazy in the best possible way, which made the moment they finally get together all the more satisfying.
Yin and War are amazing, their performance in this show is simply perfect. We already knew they're great actors, but after watching this I'm not afrai to say they mightjust be the best I've seen. They really made the characters come alive in every little detail. War especially really shines a lot in this show: as Joker, he has to interpret a lot of different roles, and it's amazing to see just how different War carries himself when he's being Joke who's acting like someone else. Not to mention the dramatic scenes: no one can act a dramatic scene the way War does; be ready to cry, because when Joke cries it will be impossible not to join him.
Yin too is incredible. I'm so glad he got to act so many action scenes, because he's simply amazing at them; all the fighting scenes are so well done, I could watch Yin fighting for hours honestly. He said he prepared a lot for this role and it shows, because he did an amazing job. And he's way too good at crying too. The two of them together will make you cry, no doubt about it.
Do I even have to say anything about the kissing? Yin and War literally invented kissing and they sure gave it their all in this show.
Anyway it's not even just the two of them, literally every actor in this series is amazing and every character is perfectly written; they're not just background characters, they really are their own people.
So, it's really a beautiful show, from start to finish, I have already watched it twice and I will definitely rewatch it again and again in the future.
Frankly, I can't recommend it enough to whoever wants something different from the usual Thai BL (and even to people who don't usually watch BLs).
Yin and War made this show from scratch using their own money, and they did it for their fans. All the effort and love and care they put into it really shines through, and I couldn't be more thankful.

Whatever it served perfectly for me
◾Jack & Joker: U Steal My Heart!"Jack and Joker" is a Thai series that breaks the usual mold. The depth of emotions wrapped by incredible acting with great visuals. Even though there's really some plot holes but the production quality is great, with beautifully crafted sets and thoughtful cinematography(not overall just camera angles were pretty smooth)that enhances every episode. The soundtrack, too, deserves a mention; it perfectly complements the narrative, evoking the right emotions at the right times. Two protagonists (Yin anan & War wanarat)overflowing with talent, masculinity, and beauty, it takes us on a roller coaster ride that's hard to recover from. The chemistry between YinWar is inevitable, making every scene they share both compelling and emotional.
🔻There's a severe lack of security cameras and guards, the bank is so big, but when joker got into the office there is no cctv camera. Fighting scenes and action scenes are poorly written and executed. Even though Jack & Joker characters are well written still there's merely any character development. Tattoo,Hoy,arun for them I don't see any future cause they actually can't do anything to bear their living costs. Near the end, it gets weird and silly. They try to fit so many aspects into one show like 'catch me if you can ', ' mission impossible' but actually people will really wonder why people there consider him a "legendary master thief".
📍They had low budget and they did thousands times better than many big budgets Thai bls. So no complaints against anything related to budget. The way the held gun exactly perfect👏🏻.As thai shows (and honestly BL in general) go, this is not even close to the unrealistic writing I have seen. But the emotions they delivered which made my satisfaction lv ♾️.
🫠: For me the the Plot was YinWar and it severed absolutely outstanding . So, it's 100/10 for me anyway.
📌Joker didn't rob jack of anything except his hopes and dreams, incidents with Toi Ting, their forehead touch was brilliantly executed and my most fav scene among all.
Overall, I would describe this show as exceptional thus far, and it has certainly set a high standard for future series in this genre. They started an opening which will always be iconic forever..

Jack and Joker says it alll!!
Wooow..What a nice story..I just finished watching the drama. First of all this drama has a different and unique story compared to many Bls released during this year. I would say that this is one of the best Bls so far in 2024!Apart from the storyline, actors did a good job in acting including all main and sub characters of the story. Omggg the romance was sooo good and especially the main cp chemistry was gooddd..The story had some comedy touch in to it and was also romantic and emotional at times..
Music was nice and the type that makes your heart flutter..All in all the whole drama was goodd and I don’t think there’s much negativity to the drama..Unless you just find some parts cringey..That’s all..Enjoy!!

Just Amazing!!
I just loved the whole story, acting, character development, cinematography and everything. This drama has made me cry, laugh, tense in some situations. It was a whole roller-coaster ride.
I loved that every character had their important part and were not left hanging just for the sake of building up the story.
Joke is an amazing character as he always tries his best to make everyone happy around him qnd doesn't want to let others down.
Development of Jack's character is very interesting how an innocent boy turns into a Grim Reaper but is still kind.
Jack and Joke are so much in love with each other that they always support and protect each other in difficult situations.
War and Yin has acted so well!!!
Tattoo, Hoy, Arun, Save, Hope every person had important part in the story.
Not to forget the Grandma's character... she is so good- a very cool and supportive grandma who wants happiness for his grandchild.
I just loved everything about this drama.

Stellar performance with a plot that scatters your emotions
• Jack & Joker: U steal my Heart has a plot that is all over the place and can create a surge of emotions in viewers. The hype around the show was given justice through the acting skills of each and every actor and the chemistry showcased by the main leads.•First, lets talk about the plot, shall we. I did not see the pilot teaser of this show and went straight ahead with the episodes, thinking that synopsis gave me a good idea of what I'm going to watch. From what I understood through the synopsis is that Jack and Joker, though with clashing personalities and challenging jobs (as a debt collector and thief respectively), end up joining forces for some sort of grand heist, developing a love-hate relationship. Never in a billion dreams did I think I would face a shared past with this "Strangers to Friends to Enemies to Lovers" troupe. It's not bad, but it's not what I expected. Nevertheless, I didn't let that stop me from watching. But going on forward, the show gave me a heavy sense of deja vu with it's romance side of story. JackJoker's relationship felt similar to that of VeeMark in Love Mechanics (which also starred YinWar). That did not sit right, especially given how sneaky and playful Joker should be (Mark was an emotional and heartbroken mess because of Vee). Joker's character fizzled out from being a fearless and feisty thief to a lovesick fool in search of redemption. Jack was no better. At first, his anger towards Joker felt reasonable, but then in the second half his anger and hatred towards Joker got me conflicted. Joker saved him from being lifelong indebted to that boss by stealing the ring, but Jack never saw that, and instead felt it as betrayal cause Joker had promised to never steal. But then again, the theft had resulted in Toi Ting (a young girl for whom they both cared) getting into critical condition as she was physically abused by the boss's henchmen, which only justifies his anger towards Joker to an extent. There was also this confusion I had gotten regarding as to how a normal ring had so much power, but the last episode did give me a bit of explanation. Then there was a robbery at the bank by Joker, which was executed pretty unrealistically. And the whole game thing in last episode felt petty to me. But the whole "Plan A, B, C" situation in episode 11 definitely lightened my mood, and I was surprised to find Hope tagging along. The entire story has given me mixed feelings though.
•If the plot gave me reasons to criticize the show, the acting gave me a reason to love it. War has always been a phenomenal actor. His emotional range and versatility have always left me speechless. Jack & Joker is definitely a step up for him. The quirky disguises which Joker took on, especially that of the make up lady, proved just how fantastic he is as an actor. The aggressive ways in which he flirted with Jack were equally amusing and entertaining to watch. Then in the second half of the story he devoured the angst scenes. His sorrowful cries showed how much he was in, pain, especially when Jack told him to never show his face. The pain he had after he got rejected by his father was also sad to watch. And of course, the sulky and devastated look he had in his face watching Jack entertain Rosé as if she were his lover. War as Joker is one of the best casting of this year. Yin is also significantly improving. He was able to convey the grudge Jack holds against Joker as well as the discomfort he had after being forced into a relationship with Rosé. His action scenes were also fantastic and well done. He is also a perfect casting for the role. The chemistry between the two is always a winner for me. Though their romance was slow burn and had lots of ups and downs, I enjoyed every minute of when they were together. Those kisses were chef's kiss and Jack's simple proposal in the end was adorable. I just wished that Joker would've had a proper apology from Jack for having brutally berated him. But the acting and chemistry of YinWar was the key highlight of the show.
•This shows side characters were also memorable. I never thought that there would be some sort of romantic tension between Aran and Tattoo. And though they weren't given the screentime and closure expected from them, I was actually somehow contented with what I had got from them. I was surprised that I actually like the HopeSave couple. Despite the fact that they both had done from bad things to Jack, I must say that I admired the fact that Hope stayed by Save's side and understood the latter's situation. Their redemption arc was what I needed and it kind of filled up the space of mind demanding for Aran and Tattoo. Holy was a great friend to Joker and Tattoo and I loved his funny ideas. Jack's Grandma was a whole different vibe. Her being considerate towards Joker, fangirling and shipping her grandson and Joker, and fighting with boss's henchmen were first class bl fangirl things. She was very relatable. Ting was very cute and I really felt my blood boil after seeing how ruthlessly she was attacked. Rosé gives me mixed feelings, but I mostly feel happy that she let Jack go in the end. Joker's family felt like completely jerks to me in the starting, but them wanting to rekindle with him and accepting him was good for me as long as it made Joker happy. And we don't talk about the boss and Carbon........just that they got what they deserved in the end....... humiliation.
•Overall, the saving grace for this story is clearly it's cast, it's production, the chemistry of YinWar and the comedic relief scenes. It had ambition, but failed in it's execution, but still managed to retain a few elements to keep the viewers entertained.

I crave for more..
A refreshing premise that goes beyond the usual bl recipe and dares to experiment with other genres, by blending comedy with action and drama. Each episode --while lengthy-- is so enjoyable that you don't find yourself getting bored or tired. However, it suffered on the writing department. After a point the plot expanded so much it took so many directions that the focus got disturbed with some aspects of the series getting neglected; like the romance, the development of the side characters, even the main leads I feel didn't get the attention they deserved. Either the show should have had more episodes, so that all the plotlines could have gotten properly developed or the focus should have remained in a smaller scale of things and leave room for the characters to gradually grow both emotionally and mentally, because now it left me with the sense that I didn't get my closure. The show itself had set the bar so high in the first episodes, that I expected to see some things happen that I didn't get to after all..
Acting wise it was beautiful. It was my first time watching these actors and I loved their performances. Yin and War as a tv couple have that unique chemistry that gave me butterflies even when they only exchanged looks and that's something you rarely see.
Overall, the series is good and I really loved it! Definitely a fun journey for the viewer and I recommend it to anyone who isn't looking for a standard romance.

Mess... not in a good way.
It walked this very narrow line between a parody and serious action drama and fell down to the cold circus floor.I know I will be a minority here, but I don't think this show is good. The story isn't really what you expect it to be and when you try to adjust to the silliness and light tone of it all, the show gets dark and serious out of the blue.
The premise is about clever thief, who uses his wits to outbest his oponents. He steals from the rich, gives it to the poor and he looks cool doing it. But -
none of the roberries make sense. Logic and common sense flew out of the window and everything that happend was the most random shenanigans i have ever seen. This is present in the entire show.
Multiple times per this series the plot advanced by playing random luck based games where to soundtrack would like you to think that thats the most tense scene ever (it was not).
I feel like the entire script was a first draft. They knew what they wanted to happen but didn't know how to make it happen. And when we run out of plot we throw in some random plot points to get to the finale. And all of it is a big shame because the actors are good, the show looks good (soundtrack sucks but that I can live with), the message about poor people struggling to fulfill their dreams while rich people use their leverage over them was attempted but ultimately under used. On rare occasions, there is some really good character work but that's the end of positives.
And one of the worst down sides? We get Jack and Joke dating for only 3 episodes. Even less because the curse of episode 11 is strong and omnipresent in the bl genre. Yinwar are the best actors in the industry but that alone wont save this show, relaying on their chemistry only makes the show limp from start to finish. The worst it is that we don't see all that much of them.
I am sad but, hey? Do you like the show and had blast watching it? Good for you. I would only recommend if you are hardcore Yinwar fan.

Precisavamos disso!
