Just plain bad

To put this simply, this drama is frankly terrible, with a very bad written script and sub-par acting. The whole plot revolving around the kidnap, which was sold as the core of the whole show, is basically forgotten after two or three episodes: after that, the whole thing just becomes a rom-com, and a very cheap one too, with boring scenes that lack both consequentiality and any kind of emotional impact.
The terrible script, unfortunately, translates also to a mediocre acting performance: not even Ohm, who is known to be a great actor, could not do anything to make this thing somehow good in any way; on the other hand, Leng is just not good: I sincerely hope that he will take acting classes after this and get better, at least to avoid smiling awkwardly during dramatic scenes.
About the romance development, Min and Q's relationship is just hasty, bland and really not that satisfying to watch: they just meet, they decide they like each other without any clear reason, and then they just make you cringe for more than half of the show (no amount of "chemistry" can save them from this atrocious script). The remaining story is just a mix of half-written sub plots (Yada's, Q's dad's or even Q's own story dealing with trauma) that basically just serve as intermissions before the next unrewarding MinQ moment. The only likable part in this show is James, which makes no sense as a character at all but at least is kinda funny.
In conclusion, for me this show was a waste of time: I just hope that they will give Ohm better scripts in the future and not decide to waste his acting skills onto this kind of cheap entertainment.

A WHOLESOME SLICE OF LIFE DRAMA - ignore the title and trailer

Ignore the title and trailer. It's a solid 10 Slice of Life drama with bomb chemistry, and a healthy relationship where mains communicate their issues openly and maturely, a character's trauma-related PTSD are actually part of the plot and not taken lightly (there is no magic cure, he is still in therapy until very end). The fight and sex scenes are actually decent and "believable" because the MC/Min is a supposed to be stuntman/bouncer who is trained to fight, and not some college boy who is suddenly an expert in martial arts when surrounded by thugs. I know everyone says ML (Q) is basically a damsel in distress, but he is a civilian who is caught in the crossfire between his "Righteous Hero-Cop" dad and the criminals he is pursuing. The guy isn't trained to fight, he has severe PTSD from watching his mom get killed in front of him and he keeps getting kidnapped and hurt by his dad's enemies. U can't really blame the guy for not really being excited about it.

Also, most viewers here underestimate how much your "fight and flight" reflex can be conditioned in case of frequent threats. For eg, if you are "fight" person, your first instinct will always be run towards the threat instead of away, because your mind honestly believes that u can fight it, whether u have the body to back it up or not. So, Q finding himself in situations where he gets in trouble because doesn't have the physic to back up his "fight" instinct (i.e confronting criminals, or running towards the gunfire, even if he gets panic attacks at the sound) didn't seem as weird or strange to me.

That said, all the introduced plot-arcs actually do get completed (some take until the end of show, and there is a time-skip in between); no character, INCLUDING minor characters, is wasted; no unnecessary drama between main leads, or with the dad. ALL communications happen openly and on-screen. The dialogue is at times cringe-worthy, but u can always stare at Ohm (whoever was in charge of his styling deserves an Oscar and a Nobel prize, because MY GAWD!!) and ofcourse, the OST. I'm sure even the people who hated the drama love the OST, so I won't waste my breath on it.

The best series from GMMTV in this year

Now that the Final episode has finished, it left many emotions and memories for me. Although I thought it would be dark themed story, the series turned out to be romance. But the one thing I like about Kidnap is that the story doesn’t just focus on one character but also to every character’s relationship. I feel like some parts were rushed and the important scenes were cut off, if they didn’t cut it would be more emotional and smooth.
But overall I’m thankful to the whole crew and OhmLeng for this masterpiece, not a perfect but it’ll always be in my heart.

Very impressive

it was very good and I'm eager to know what will happen in the next episode 😊😊😊😊. This series is different from other stories 🤧 which makes it more exciting to watch. I can't wait for episode 2. how I wish everyday is Friday 😊😊. And also I love Min and Q chemistry, their chemistry is very strong and tense 😌 which makes it more exciting to see them. I want to know how Min will initiating his feelings towards Q and how Q will reciprocate. I'm just happy this series is out, I'm very happy.

Boring snoozefest

I love Ohm since Make It Right, but his projects these days are quite sad. I was excited by the premise of the story, and the yearly GMMTV pre-trailer was good. The resulting show was disappointing. This show has poor plot, poor pacing, poor characters, poor acting and frankly I found myself watching my phone during some of the dialogues.

Their Chemistry!!

I was waiting for this series for so long. Since they announced that they will be paired up. They have such great chemistry on and off screen. The story line is good not boring at all. Of course, since it is Leng’s first series, there are some parts that we are not satisfied but overall he did such a great job. In term of casts in the series, they all did so great and they are the depth of the series as well. I want the episodes to be longer. They are ✨SERVING✨They know the assignment and they ✨DELIVER✨

First half: :) Second Half: :(

Kidnap was the series that I was the most excited about; overall for GMMTV of 2024, but also just BL in general. I love Ohm, most of his work I'm a big fan of, and I thought nothing less of this one. Which is why I hate that I'm so not impressed with what this series brought.

Let's Dive In.

I really enjoyed the first half of this series, and I'm not really sure when I started not enjoying it, but I could tell quickly that this series was headed down hill for me. I had already made two attempts to start Kidnap, which after getting past the first episode, I ended up really enjoying. I think it was between the time of their first kiss that they just started falling off.

Mostly what I was enjoying was the kidnapping aspect of this. I think its gritty, I think the content can get forbidden and sickly, and that's the kind of stuff I can (sometimes, to an extent) really enjoy. I knew even before watching that Min didn't necessarily kidnap Q and more so saved him from dying, but even still, this was not anything like I was expecting it to be. Still, I was rather pleased with what we were getting. Then, their relationship starts to develop rather fast for my taste. Also, of course Q happened to do music *eye rolls* which will just always take me out of a series, especially a GMMTV series.

The plot lost me almost immediately. I was able to understand the situation with the man that wanted Q dead and Q's dad, but the lady? Papang's character? the night club? It might've been a me thing more than a series thing, but I was definitely confused more than I would've liked to be.

I really liked Ohm and Leng, I really do, but they don't click for me like I really wanted them to. Not saying that they weren't cute, not saying that I didn't enjoy their on-screen chemistry, but I wasn't as obsessed with them as I could've been. I think that was another part of the disconnect with this series, when I wasn't really feeling anything for anyone. I think they do good kissing, I think they do good physically, but the emotional aspect is missing for me, not sure why though.

Ratings:

Story: 6/10 - Really good in the first half, boring and draggy in the second. That the romance was okay, along with the storyline.

Acting: 8.5/10 - Ohm did good, of course, but I'm not really sold on Leng's acting just yet. There were lots of times he was suppose to cry and not even a tear would slip out (not all the time though, there were def scene he was crying in). Everyone did good too.

Music: 6/10 - Not distracting.

Recommendation Value: 4/10 - No recommendation of this series from me, other than if you want to see Ohm acting again.

Hey, You, Stop, I'm Not The Problem Here.

I must be doing this whole Poor thing wrong, cuz why Min out here complaining about being dirt poor, but homeboy have two mansions, expensive looking fashion clothes, and went to kidnap someone and got himself a super rich boyfriend? If that was being poor, then may this level of poorness locate me, please. Also, the moment Min zoomed into the picture of Q, I went... 'Peoples, we've lost a brother, his arse ain't gonna kidnap nobody, he looking for a husband.' Min was the worse kidnapper ever. He sucked. Mfer was a glorified babysitter.

Listen, the premise of this show was interesting, a handsome boy who looks like a 90s heartthrob Hollywood star, goes to kidnap someone and ends up falling in love. You know, typical case of Stockholm syndrome, but like the bl edition. I was sold, cuz Ohm is a good actor, and him and Leng seemed to have a good chemistry. So tell me why, halfway through the series, my bored arse was ready for it to be over?

And don't even get me started on that cringy Mary Jane and Spider-man scene. Was it cute, probably, but I was cheesing the whole time. One thing about that scene though, it made me realised one of Min's mansion was like in the middle of water or something, or was it a pool. Damn, to be so richly poor must be be hard.

In all honesty, this series should have been 8 episodes long at most. Even so, it should have ended at episode 11, cuz it was slow paced and dragged on. Half of what happened could have been cut and we'd still would have had enough to make the same show.

CHARACTERS
First off, that one man in the credit opening scene, who apparently was the one who hired them to kidnap Q. That man was in the drama for like two episodes, at best he was like an extra, so why the eff was he in the opening? I was so confused.

Anyway, Yes, MinQ had good chemistry, and they gave the best they could with the script they were given. The acting was good, though gonna be honest, in some crying scenes with Q, I went, 'Dude is you crying, laughing or sniffing glue?' Lol, but other than that, good acting and chemistry. Mhen was a good character as well, really liked him and looking forward to his new series with Mark. As for the secondary characters, they didn't have enough to stand out. I'm still wondering how that one friend went from working on movie sets to knowing people looking for a hitman.

Also, I just watched Q's father in that drama where he was cheating on his wife with her son, so whenever he was on the screen being a policeman, my brain automatic went, 'shouldn't you put yourself in jail' lol, but yeah, as a father to Q he sucked in the beginning, but towards the end he did change, which was good, I guess. Though, seeing how the woman he kept putting in jail always came back like a boomerang, what was the point of him putting Q's life in danger for?

VILLIANS:
The bad guys in this show were like Houdini, they disappeared most of the show, then bam, they back doing some stuff. Like that woman was in and out of jail so many times, she might as well have made it her vacation home. And also what the hell was happening with episode 11 stand-off scene? This woman had a gun in her hand, instead she just pointed it real hard at Q's dad, doing nothing until Min showed up, not even from behind her, but in front, to kick it out of her hand?? WHAT EVEN? And after all that, Min got shot in the stomach, and that director want me to believe it was just a glaze that left no scars?? LITERALLY, what even are we doing here?

The end to that big bad villian was laughable: What even happened? They sent her to jail, then suddenly she is out with a vague reason, and then some random person shot her dead?? Listen, if the son of that one man was going to get revenge, we needed to see something. This woman is the big bad, so her demise should at least make some sort of sense, but it all felt so rushed and flat, it became irrelevant. They made space for Q's dad glancing at his uniform, but couldn't let us such an important part of the plot.

Finale:
Damn, they really threw everything but the kitchen sink into that finale huh? And the episode seemed to go on forever, I doze off like more than four times, and had to rewind. Still, nothing interesting really happened though, no follow up on that random dude who shot the big villain. This drama should have ended way before it did. As it is now, it just drags with not much interesting stuff going on.

Anyway, as their first series, Ohmleng did well, The script could have been waay better than it was, but personally, I think the premise of the plot was interesting, except the production team did not execute it to its full potential and ended up given us a somewhat boring, convoluted show that let many of us rather underwhelmed.

I'll still recommend this to everyone, it's good for a one time watch. I am looking forward to Ohm and Leng's next drama, hopefully, they get a script worthy of their capabilities.

Meh

In essence, this series commenced promisingly, exhibiting potential for greatness. However, the subsequent episodes deviated significantly, resulting in a monotonous and unengaging narrative. The pacing became increasingly slow, leading to a sense of tedium. The skip button, once a mere inconvenience, became an indispensable tool for escaping the tediousness. While the lead actors delivered competent performances, their acting lacked any remarkable qualities.

For individuals unfamiliar with the genre, this series may offer an intriguing experience. Nevertheless, I found it to be yet another mediocre drama that squandered numerous opportunities. The lead actors, in particular, deserve more challenging roles that showcase their full potential. The series’ overall quality was remarkably rudimentary.

Good story, bad writing

That headline pretty much sums up everything about Kidnap by the way, the sheer amount of potential a story like this had was ruined by the horrible writing. I'm assuming it's based on a novel and I'm a little scared to find out if the source material itself was this bad, or if it was just somehow messed up beyond recognition while being made into a script.

The weirdest part is how fragmented the story was, it was like watching three or four completely different shows, that was mashed up into one series haphazardly. There was romance and comedy, mystery and thrill, and in the same vein but not really, trauma, moving on and moving ahead. Even just saying it this way would make it seem like these genres won't work great, all together, but let me save you some time, it didn't work.

The genre shifted multiple times in an episode, there was comedy at moments where it made no sense and the whole kidnap plot was the weakest thing in a series called Kidnap. The audience is also left to connect the dots for most scenes, it's never outright obvious how the characters and the story got there, but you think hard enough and you can make the connections. But sometimes you just have to say eh- I guess it just happened that way, so let's move on.

I was genuinely shocked with the amount of potential this story had, I mean, written well and this could have been a masterpiece. But writing it in a way where you introduce different conflicts every episode only for them to be solved (or mostly solved) by the end of that episode, whereas you have the main conflict show up when it's convenient for you.. that's not how you keep the audience invested.

Most of my dissapointment is with the writing though, because despite that weak plot, the chemistry was actually decent, I did find myself invested in the characters to an extent and the acting was pretty good. Min and Q had this great loser in love energy between them and despite the weird way in which I think they started out (it was incredibly fast), they did have that soulmates thing going for them, but the story.. what could have been.

Technically, I should rate this lower than I actually did, but I have a soft spot for Ohm, he was amazing in this. And Title. He was amazing as James, James gets a 10/10. But even with them, I can't give this a high score, a kind of high score I genuinely thought I would be giving this before I started, and even a bit after I started.
