I couldn't believe my eyes

I know everyone is saying this, but the FL is killing me. I usually don't watch romance dramas, but I recently picked up Queen of Tears and I loved the FL. I think these two women are supposed to be similar in the sense that they are(mind my Gen Z ness) both supposed to be girlbosses. Of course, they have their differences and the FL of QOT is supposed to be more stoic and expressionless while the FL of Impossible Heir is....Wait why was she also expressionless?

I don't know what the writers were trying to attempt when writing her character. She isn't even a morally grey character or wtv. She's just flat-out unlikeable. I feel like there should be certain extent to morally bad stuff you can get your characters to commit if you still want them to be redeemed.

I loved the actor for Taeoh. The script and plot were bad but he wasn't. However, his character along with the FL was questionable. I mean, Inha was a shitty dude in the end, but that doesn't excuse the shitty thing these two committed behind his back. There are a lot of bad things that are redeemable in shows, but cheating and kicking puppies is not one of them. From then on, it was hard to support the MCs.

I'm not done shitting on the FL yet tho. I rlly like the way Huiju said it. She only cares about herself. Personally, nothing is wrong with trying to find a rich husband and marrying him or wtv. I mean u do u. But what was the point of even adding her to the story if that literally all she was going to do? She barely contributed to the plot as FL all she did was act as fodder to get between Inha and Taeoh... literally a below-average love triangle and I didn't even know love triangles could become even more horrific.

Ridiculously, she also literally just disappeared in the last two episodes while Taeoh was putting inha in jail. There was not one real attempt at making her and Taeoh's chemistry seem passable. At this point, its safe to say they aren't even in love anymore. Which brings the question, literally what was all that drama for?

Speaking of reasoning for drama, the way they handled Inha's character was ridiculous. He was supposed be a morally grey character and a sociopath(?). At the beginning, we can already see his questionable character, but the transition from that(pretty harmless school troll persona) to a psychopath murderer was barbaric. The two MLs friendship wasn't even all that fleshed out and when Inha suddenly turned on Taeoh, it didn't feel that hard-hitting.

One thing I was looking at to see if this story can redeem is whether or not Inha's character would be dynamic. I wanted him to feel bad and not just after he's been punished. We need to see the regret at the moment but have his greed overpower any sympathy he has. Otherwise, it literally wouldn't make any logical sense to make it seem like he places this obnoxious amount of effort into him and Taeoh's friendship. I wish the friendship was at least somewhat genuine. But the way they wrote the characters made it seem like the writers half realized that the villain would become more popular than the morally dubious main characters if they made the villain anything less than a cold-hearted, ungraceful turd. Literally, all of that could be solved if they had a well-written villain and hero. If Taeoh(the FL could disappear from the story for all I care tbh)'s sacrifices for Inha were more spelled out and his care for the other were more pronounced, no doubt he would be dynamic. It shouldn't just be "Im going to help you succeed." It should include real heartwarming scenes between the two that actually convince us of their relationship and care for each other. That way, when Inha betrays him, it would be more provoking.

Side note: if u want a likable main character, then u probably shouldn't write them do any assholery before the villain makes his move(i.e. have them kiss the girl they were hung up over for the past ten years, who is also coincidentally their best friend's WIFE. i.e. having the kiss look dry and romancefree probably did NOT help.). I was starting to think that Inha killing Taeoh would be justified( a bit, murder is never ok but fiction is fiction) if he really was mad about Taeoh kissing his wife. Unfortunately, his character also became irredeemable when he turned out to be a wife beater...

I was honestly appalled the entire time I watched the last two episodes. usually, scenes like this are supposed to feel satisfying. Like yay the hero beats the bad guy and puts him behind bars! Look at the savage shit he did in the process, you would never guess his intelligence, so cool! But all I can feel was pity for how much they fucked up Inha's character. Like he had the potential to be a heart-wrenching tragic villain, but when Taeoh asked why Inha did all that evil shit, the dude literally said Idk. They literally couldn't even come up for a valid reason for the villain to be a villain. ur joking. This story has no substance whatsoever.
How can ts be 12 episodes and still be so vague. I don't understand.

ps. I actually did not listen to the song so my rating on it is null.

Speechless

I have just one important question “Why?” Where the friendship between In Ha and Tae Ho disappeared? out of nowhere In Ha is the bad guy? The most uninspired idea! What was the purpose of the FL? I don’t want to seem bad, but FL didn’t add any value to the series, worse, it lowered the potential.
And the ending? Why? I don’t get it. It was frustrating and hard to follow.
Initially I thought that it was the acting of FL the huge problem, but i found other things much more disturbing; which did not make watching this series more enjoyable.

Who is your friend or enemy!

I’m really enjoying it so far! I don’t know all the actors, but I’m definitely enjoying the storyline. There is never a dull moment. There’s so much I could say. It’s kinda typical for a conglomerate family. You need to figure out who is for you or against you. I wished there was a little more romance but I can see why there’s not. I love the suspense of never knowing who or what will happen next. I’m a fan of more of romantic comedies, but this drama has kept my attention more than I thought it would.

Good storyline but the female lead cannot act. Might drop this drama

The casting and storyline are pretty good, but the female lead's acting isn't up to par, which is affecting how well the show does. I find myself skipping her scenes because she doesn't do a great job of showing emotions, and it's confusing. If they keep trying to force the main guy and girl to be together, I might lose interest. They should give more screen time to characters like Huiju to make the show better. Despite these issues, I stuck around until episode 10, hoping for some interesting twists with Huiju's character.

the queen of the stiff face

I was so excited about this drama, especially about Lee Jae Wok because I love how he acts but I ended up very disappointed in the story in general and especially the performance of the main actress.
Her gestures and emotions were at 0% at all times, even the bathtub scene where she almost drowned, her terror or fear was not even felt, that's how bad she is. I was expecting more from this but I had to leave it because I can't stand to see it to the end, I guess it's not the story for me.........

In one word: Pretentious. Also, a true insult to the intelligence of all viewers

I thought a lot about why people hate this show so much. Of course bad shows and scripts exist, but the key difference is that they’re not “trying” to be this niche, grey/noir show about corporate finance. The problem here is that a very stupid writer thinks the audience is dumb as well. So, he never bothered to research any finance or business terms, and wrote random nonsense.
The story is set in a magical monopoly of a company called Kangho that does… everything? They seem primarily like venture capitalists, but no one explains anything in this show, except for going on and on about how much insane social and market power their magical business has.
Taeho the ML especially ends up being an awful character since he’s meant to be the “smart one”. Some of his actions include: repeatedly going after his best friend’s wife, not knowing how embezzlement works, establishing a magical paper company that gives him all the power. Pure BS.
Inha is turned from this flawed/not as smart friend to an unexplained psychopath. In the end they don’t tell us the reason why he did the dumbest thing, because they never even bothered to create a reason throughout the show!
Hye won… I hated her character honestly. Completely apart from the actress, she’s written as someone who lacks all brain cells (and emotions?) Couldn’t she just be the politicians aide, since that’s how she ended up anyway, and not marry a man she doesn’t love? (She got the job on her own!). Weird cheater/gold digger cliche who says and does things that make zero sense. I don’t understand why the character’s a part of the show honestly.
I do feel happy for Huiju and second brother, they’re the only ones with a character arc. Brother learns that power and being at the top isn’t everything, and Huiju will live her own life freely after dodging the arranged marriage nonsense.
The acting was excellent from LJW and Jun, them sharing a screen brings me joy. I won’t say anything about FL, she’s getting enough (correct) criticism as it is. But, all in all, this show is a cautionary tale of what happens when a writer is overly pretentious and thinks the viewers are illiterate. I hope he will either retire or pick up finance for dummies before trying this again.

a disappointing outcome of a highly anticipated drama

the drama had a pretty promising start but after only 2 episode the drama started going downhill. there are 3 timeskip in this drama and two of them (5+5)10 years ) happened in only 4 episode.which is the first thing that makes the viewers dissatisfied as everything in the show was happening without proper explanations...the motivation behind the action of the main leads are unclear.

characters: inha was problematic from epi 1 but to gain public sympathy the writers made him act cringe in ep(2 ,3,4)and when his villain arch started he turned into a vanilla villain who can't do anything right. it's almost as if he is useless without Tae Ho.
Tae ho's character was most disappointing as i had most expectations from his character.
Hae Won: I don't wanna talk about her. her character is useless. K-drama writers should stop including female characters as just showpiece in their shows in 2024 now. Kang song joo: liked this dude from epi 1. he almost had overthrown his own father.. happy that he found peace in himself.
favorite characters: the prosecutor and the hacker.

Acting: Everyone gave their best(except Hong Suzu=Na Hye Won)but because the script is bad sometimes the acting seems dull or over acting.

it's almost impossible to root for any of the main leads not because they are morally gray but because the characters are almost pathetic, unemotional, pretentious and not pitiful at all when they pretend that they are.

the writing sucks and it lacks cohesion.everything is happening just for the sake of happening.the way Tae ho solved the murder mystery reminds me the drama Memorist. i was having Deja Vu.

anyway the script is old and it seems the drama was written as a 16 episodes drama but they shorten it to 12epi that's why there's so many time jump and everything is so rushed and they introduced new characters in the end episodes as if they have connections with other already established characters but it is never shown.

overall, enjoyed the two male leads and their visuals.

Plot all over the place

Only watching this for Lee Jaewook. Watching FL's acting is like sitting through an elementary school play and while the other actors are doing their best, even they know the plot is going off the rails. Too many unanswered questions by Episode 8 and too much context, background and connections skipped over in the first 2 episodes. Several promising characters have become wallpaper by E08. Maybe the writers have a Bazinga moment planned at the end to bring everything together but even Han Taeoh can't save this.

Not Bad As Perceived By Many

Just like maybe a few lot of watchers, I also gave up watching this drama after two episodes. I couldn’t stand the business jargons and I somehow grew tired of hearing it. So I placed this drama on my “watch later list”. I decided to give this drama another try and watched this after all episodes have done airing. I lowered my expectation and didn’t watch or read on spoilers.

Not bad as perceived. Not the worst drama in my checklist. This drama was an easy watch and in fact, I binged watch this drama. I even could stand the FL’s acting amidst negative reactions from watchers. The planning was great I mean I couldn’t even predict Han Taeoh’s next course of action. Even with his unfortunate circumstance in the middle episodes, I thought was part of the plan. I was wrong! So somehow I was entertained in the end.

Ending. So, Korean dramas have their share of substandard endings. Fortunately, this drama didn’t fall under that category. I think they wrapped this up in the best way they could. Although the ending was a bit too slow for me or like they could have done a better job at keeping us on our toes and in keeping the excitement of a bitter-sweet ending.

Would I recommend this drama? Yes for fans of Lee Jae Wook and if you are a fan of stories and vibe like Reborn Rich.

surprised by the reviews here...

i'm very surprised by the reviews this show got. Of course is not for everyone, the show takes its time to get where it wants. People who wants action by the first or even third episode will not like it and find it very boring (and that's ok). I would recommend people to pay more attention to what is happening in the show, a lot of details is being explained throughout it but it really needs to pay attention.
For the characters, some people complain that Taeoh becomes the good one, while Inha the bad one. Life is not that simple lol. The show is quite clear that none of the main characters are one thing or another, since the second episode it shows that the three of them are moved by their own greedy. Inha doesn't do things out of blue, he was always a emotional person, that's why he start to like Taeoh from the beginning and falls in love for Hye-won with just few interactions. He is quite a obsessive person that is doing things without thinking from the start.
Hye-won, I agree, could have much more impact in the show. Her development gets lose every time something happens with Taeoh and Inha. She is a good character and should have more time for us to see her plans.
(I won't even talk about people saying that is bad Hye-won and Taeoh have kissed a day before the marriage, of course is not right to do, but yeah people are human and make mistakes - this doesn't imply that you should kill someone and put the blame into your ex-friend)
A lot of dramas struggle when doing the Succession plot and I won't say that Impossible Heir does it the best, but for sure it makes much more sense than what has been done in much others.
Recomend people to give it a try until the episode 8, when I think it really makes everything more interesting and, since it only has 12 episodes, I don't think one would be wasting much time doing so.

An empty shell of a series

The reasons this even gets a 4 are: a good cast, nice cinematography, a promising start to the series, and characters with potential. But otherwise, The Impossible Heir has some of the most baffling writing I've ever seen.

The writer had visions of a grand revenge drama without the ability to pull it off.

This script reads like someone wrote a 30-episode arc but was suddenly given only 10 minutes under duress to cut it down to 12 episodes.

Every aspect of the show is shallow, non-committal, disjointed and illogical. You'll give yourself a headache trying to make sense of it all.

There are scenes that go nowhere. There are conversations that serve no purpose. The writer apparently never learned the art of foreshadowing.

The leads have little backstory and even less discernable motivation. What we can glean about them is often contradictory. Their confusing and unrealistic actions cause even the main protagonist to become unlikeable.

As for the central plot - what starts off as a found family conglomerate revenge sharply veers off course in the middle, becoming something much more dark and unenjoyable.

I can promise you that anything you'd hope to get out of watching this, you can find it done better elsewhere.
