A heartfelt look at relationships, each other, and one's self
This show definitely has a heavy topic centering not just on divorce but also on personal growth and self discovery. In today's society, divorce rates are at an all time high. In order to curb impulsive divorces, China recently established a "Cooling Off Period" where a couple filing for divorce needs to wait a period of 30 days before their papers are finalized. This show looks into the lives of 3 couples: one couple considering a divorce; another currently in their Cooling Off Period; and another pair that has divorced for a year. They travel together in XinJiang for 18 days as they contemplate their relationships and their futures.
It takes guts to be on a show like this and expose your flaws for the masses to see (and this show really blew up in China) and I can't believe the production team was able to find 6 people that are so genuine and "real" to be part of this amazing show. You can't help but sympathize with them, cry with them, get frustrated because of them, and feel happy for them. This show was an emotional rollercoaster. Watching this show, you learn not just about how to cherish your relationships, but also to take an internal look at yourself as well.
The ending theme song sang by one of the cast members was written during her trip which suits the show super well. Overall, the OST was carefully selected and incorporated into the show well. The cinematography from their XinJiang travels are beautifully shot and looks like they are fit for a nature documentary. XinJiang will definitely be one of the top travel destinations of the year after this show airs.
Highly recommend this show. You can tell the production staff used their heart to produce this show. Definitely have tissues handy while watching this.
