The Legend of Warriors Reflects the Spirit of Soul Land Anime/Donghua

TLOW is the live-action adaptation of Soul Land (Douluo Dalu), and it stays true to the essence of the original story. This is a wonderful development for anime fans, as it preserves the original themes, character development, and world-building. By staying faithful to the source material, the adaptation captures the hearts of both long-time fans and newcomers alike. This faithfulness not only honors the original creator's vision but also deeply resonates with those who have closely followed the story.

The Legend of Warriors has done an excellent job with its casting, selecting actors who suit the iconic characters of Soul Land. As an anime fan, I’m enjoying this live-action adaptation. For those new to anime, I hope the series sparks their interest in exploring the original anime. While it’s challenging for any live-action adaptation to fully capture the depth and intricacies of its source material, The Legend of Warriors has managed to convey the story and spirit of Soul Land.

I'm really happy that the creators of The Legend of Warriors stayed true to the original plot and brought to life a live-action version of an anime I love. While it isn’t perfect, it’s understandable, considering the Soul Land anime spans 263 episodes, whereas the live-action drama is condensed into just 38 episodes.

In contrast to the previous adaptation, the Douluo Continent (DC) adaptation deviates significantly from the original story. It is not a true adaptation of Soul Land but rather a story loosely inspired by it, using the characters while making considerable changes to the plot. Fans who enjoy DC can still appreciate it as a separate work, but it’s best to view it independently from the original Soul Land and TLOW.

I really recommend this drama especially for donghua/anime lover like me.

Compared to the first season this one is better. They made justice for the story. Trying to adapt it as much as possible with lesser changes from the original story. Of course it's not full adaptation. Hearing Angela's song from the Donghua just made me love it more. Unfortunately 38 episodes are not enough. I hope they'll make another season and if possible they'll use the same cast. Overall I'd watch it again. And if someone can't wait to know how the story unfolds can watch the Donghua: Soul Land (Douluo Dalu). It's as well not 100% adaptation but the concept is the same.

Excellent! Better! Must Watch.

Finally the live action of Soul Land that I am satisfied with.

It does justice to :-
- the original novel
- Tang San’s character
- the Donghua
- all the original story line details

And the best, at certain moments they have used the soundtrack from the donghua…!
I got Goosebumps when the soundtrack suddenly played!

Indeed well acted, well directed, good production and every event in this arc has been given an appropriate amount of time and attention. Nowhere does the story drag.

I hope the continuation will be as good as this one!
This series is far better than the previous live action.

Worth it

This series is fun and interesting from the first battle. The lead characters did well together along with villains. Great cgi and set. Its uniquely different from the usual stuff out there even thought it does follow the heroes journey. Sometimes it does drag on with some cheesy moments but dont let that deter you from seeing this fun series with full of heart and dedication.

It's really really good

First of all, I have not read the novel, manhwa or watched the animation. Many people are comparing this with a different show which has ultimately very loose connection with this show. It is a standalone show with great cast.

Acting is very good 👍. Each character, even if they are there for a few scenes throughout the series have put their efforts. Main leads shine very much.

The first few episodes are bit rushed out. But then the pacing was perfect and super enjoyable. Ultimately, I loved this show very much.

I wish they make second season of this because it kind of end at a major plot point.. 🤞🤞🤞🤞

(I have only watched the last episode of that earlier show. That felt very shallow and disconnected. This is much enjoyable in every aspect. No connection with that show imo)

My own thoughts on lead role acting

I’ve been a huge fan of this story for a long time. I read the book in one sitting, watched the anime, and even checked out the first drama adaptation of Douluo Continent. Honestly, while I loved Xiao Zhan as Tang San and Wu Xuanyi as Xiao Wu in the first series (they were fantastic!), I was a bit let down by how they adjusted some of the characters.

So, going into this new version, I was skeptical—especially about Zhang Yu Xi as Xiao Wu. But wow, she nailed it! She completely surpassed my expectations and even topped my own imagination of what Xiao Wu should be like. On the other hand, Zhou Yi Ran as Tang San didn’t fully click for me. Don’t get me wrong—he’s an amazing actor (I’ve loved him in other series), but as Tang San? I wasn’t fully sold.

It might not even be his fault, though. Maybe the director or writers wanted him to approach the role this way. But for me, Tang San always had this subtle, reserved charm—like he keeps most of his emotions in check, except when it comes to Xiao Wu. Zhou Yi Ran’s portrayal felt a bit off at times, with expressions that didn’t match what I imagined Tang San would give in those moments.

And let me just say—the biggest disappointment for me? No blue hair after Tang San’s second awakening! That blue hair is such an iconic part of his character for me, and its absence felt like a big miss.

Overall, though, the show was pretty solid. Sure, a lot was cut or changed from the book and anime, but that’s expected with a TV adaptation. I get that tweaks have to be made, and I’m still happy with how it turned out.

Massive kudos to Zhang Yu Xi for her portrayal of Xiao Wu—she was phenomenal! Now, I’m just eagerly waiting for the final installment of the story.

I dont really watch this kind of genre in cdrama but i really liked and enjoyed this. The make up suit them. The cgi for me is amazing. A lot of people said that it is really close to donghua and the OST for this is the same too. Its a cliffhanger in the end but its understandable because it categorize by season. I just hope that the future watcher wont be swayed from watching it because of others opinion cause i saw a lot of hate that the drama got from other fans.

Captivating, stunning Chinese live-action

The Land of Warriors" is an exhilarating Chinese live-action film that showcases stunning visuals and dynamic action sequences. The chemistry between Zhang Yu Xi and Zhou Yi Ran is palpable, bringing depth and emotion to their characters' journey. The film expertly blends intricate storytelling with breathtaking martial arts choreography, captivating the audience from start to finish. The cinematography beautifully captures all of scenes. Overall, "The Land of Warriors" is a must-watch for fans of the genre, offering a compelling mix of drama, action, and romance. For me it deserves perfect 10. 🥰🥰🥰
Hope to watch all the main casts in the next season with their most important battles against Martial soul hall as soon as possible!

"A Found Family" which prevails throughout all challenges!

I watched this drama without any knowledge of the donghua or Douluo Continent. Before starting to watch this I was a little concerned because of the change of the cast. To replace an actor like Xiao Zhan with Zhou Yi Ran seemed to me quite gutsy. Yet the cast here did really well and Zhou Yi Ran and Zhang Yu Xi were great in portraying Tang San and Xiao Wu. As I didn't watch such game and anime like dramas before, there were some aspects I had to get used to. But the story, cast and the realization of the fantasy and soul-ability elements is good and I got hooked within the first episodes and stayed until the end without skipping or fast forwarding. Especially the friendship between the Seven Devils, who form a "found family" throughout the whole story, even when they are not together, made this drama for me a very valuable watch. I craved such a "family" after watching "The Blood of Youth" and "Fangs of Fortune", which I can highly recommend!
Now I even started to watch the donghua as I got hooked with the very good story. The song :"Confused", became one of my favored songs. I liked the drama very much and can recommend it. So just watch The Land of Warriors and build your own opinion. It's really underrated!

Avengers Movie in a chinese style

PLOT: A group of 7 former elite students of a small martial arts academy (the heroes) win a competition despite the dominant sect (and its evil queen). After graduating, they must separate to evolve/improve, but they meet again 5 years later in their fight against the great villains (who want to dominate and control the world).

+++ Super quality CGI.
+++ Very beautiful cinematography, with fight scenes worthy of the Avengers.
+++ Very good actors

### story a little repetitive, with lengths. The series is very long (adaptation of 1 manga + animated trilogy: Douluo Continent & The land of warriors, at the moment). ).
### Little romance (4 couples, but few sweet scenes).

=> Despite the casting, I only went to the end with my FF friend (sorry to the fans)

Not trying to offend anyone but...

To start off, my review is purely based on The Land of Warriors alone. I have NOT seen Soul Land or Douluo Continent. Now that we have that squared away, let me explain my rating.

I watched all 38 episodes and I even paid for the express package, which I only do if I enjoy the show, which I did, however, I do feel that there are some arcs that needed to be shortened and that ending was not what I was expecting at all. There were some twists that I did not see coming and then there are just some parts that were pure boring so I have to fast forward it.

Let's get started. The overall story line is okay. I feel that they should dive into more details and stuff, but then again, they only have 38 episodes to fill in everything that they wanted so I'm giving them a little bit of grace on that. However, I am wishing for more and I was actually hoping that they spent a little more time explaining some of the character's background too. They kind of just did a quick flashback on certain characters and left others out. The one background that confuses me what of Yu Xiaogiang and Bi Bi Dong -- I mean, were they a couple before everything that happened to her? I'm just a little confused on that part which I wish they would have explored it a little bit more or at least explain it into more details. Little things like this is the reason why I rated the storyline low. As for the actors and actresses I think that everyone did an awesome job with what they had.

Zhou Yi Ran as Tang San - I don't know the Tang San from Soul Land or Douluo Continent, but I do like this Tang San. He is loyal to his beloved, family, and friends. The only thing about him that annoyed me at the beginning was his obsession with Xiao Wu. I mean, I get it, she's his lover and he wanted to protect her, but his father have been telling him that he needed to get stronger to protect her but he just kept complaining about how he wanted to save her and look for her. I feel that if he listened a little more, then maybe just maybe, she wouldn't have to sacrifice herself for him. But that's just my opinion. I know that she needed to die to get the story moving, but like I said, that's just how I feel. However, he did redeem himself and learned how to be more humble. He did learned a lot along the way and as the years went by, he did get stronger.

Zhang Yu Xi as Xiao Wu - Again, I don't know her from the other two versions, but I feel that Zhang Yu Xi playing Xiao Wu is a little too pretty. I don't know. I like her as an actress, but I feel that they should have casted someone else. Don't come for me at all. I just feel like a different actress would be a better choice. I don't know who would have been a better choice, but I just feel like Zhang Yu Xi as Xiao Wu is not right. But, she did do a wonderful job though. She was able to convey her emotions without talking when she came back alive, so that's a plus, however, I still feel a little off about her playing Xiao Wu.

Luke Chen as Dai Mu Bai - I like Luke Chen. I think he is an excellent up and coming actor. So I was not surprised at how he portrayed Dai Mu Bai. As I have stated, I haven't seen any other versions of Boss Dai, so this is purely based on how he portrayed him. This character reminded me of Chao Feng in The Starry Love. Someone who loves his beloved and is willing to do anything to protect them and he did just that. I feel that Boss Dai would be a great king along side his queen, Zhu Zhu Qing. I wanted to see more of his childhood and how strong he can get, but I won't be able to see any of that unless they decide to do a second season of this drama.

Ding Jia Yi as Ma Hong Jun - I don't know this actor since I have never seen his dramas before, but I feel that he was the perfect person for Ma Hong Jun. He brought comedic relief to the show and I actually really enjoyed his scenes a lot. I don't know if Ma Hong Jun is supposed to be a comedic character in Soul Land, but the comedy was really great. And I do agree with the Ocean God, he was very boastful and jealous of his friends' talent and love. But he did humbled himself and he also started to grow as a person. So I really liked that for him.

Zhou Jing Bo as Ning Rong Rong - This was my least favorite character. Don't come for me! In the beginning, she was very useless. I feel that she didn't pull her weight at all and that everyone needed to protect her. She was giving me princess vibes. However, when Oscar left her, she started to work on herself to get stronger and started to pull her weight on the team. So, I'll give her that.

Snow Kong as Zhu Zhu Qing - I did like that she was independent and wanted freedom. She worked very well with Boss Dai and I did enjoy watching her try to push the limit of the emperor of Xingluo. However, I feel that just like the Ocean God says, her pursuit of being stronger doesn't mean that she'll be free.

Cao Zi Shou as Oscar - I thought that he was weak at first too. I feel that Oscar and Rong Rong were just weighing down the team, but he did eventually get stronger and I really like that for him. He listened to the criticisms and went on to better himself instead of just moping around.

The acting and casts were amazing even though I did feel a little off about Xiao Wu, I did enjoy Zhang Yu Xi being Xiao Wu.

Now, let's talk about the twist. I was not expecting the Crown Prince to actually be the daughter of Bi Bi Dong. When they showed a person talking to Bi Bi Dong and her telling that person she sent her to the Tiandou royal family, I thought she meant that that person was like the Crown Princess or something but for her to be the Crown Prince was a shock to me! And it was even more shocking because wasn't the Crown Prince hitting on the aunt at Moon Pavilion? I mean, that's how I saw it. Of course the revealing of Qian Ren Xue as the Crown Prince was one of the best twist I have ever seen in a xian xia drama. BUT -- and this is a big but -- it did confused me. If Qian Ren Xue is Crown Prince Xue Qing He, then what happened to the real one and how did no one ever know that he was dead or missing or disappeared? Not even the grand masters and Yu Xiao Gang know that the Crown Prince was not the real Crown Prince. And this twist right here is the reason who I did not take out more points because it was done so perfectly well that my jaw literally dropped.

Let's get to the rating. I took 1 point off because of the ending. After everything they have gone through, we didn't see them get stronger and we didn't get to see them fight Martial Hall. I wanted that fight so bad that I am hoping for a second season. I mean, that was the whole point of everyone working so hard, right? To finally defeat Marital Soul Hall and create a better "world" for them, so to deprive us from that was a horrible thing to do. I took 1.5 points off because I feel that they spent too much time on some of the arc instead of developing the plot better or giving us the satisfaction of Tang Clan finally destroying Martial Soul Hall. I feel like the Netherworld Arc and the Tang Clan Arc took too much screen time.

So, based on just this drama alone without ever seeing Soul Land or Duolou Continent, I am rating this a 7.5 out of 10. It could have been easily an 8 if they cut those two arcs that I mentioned shorter and at least showed us the trials that the Shrek Devils have to go through, but because they didn't, my final rating is at 7.5.
