The Returner (2002)

This movie, for some reason, reminded me of E.T mixed with time travel, except with a much MUCH darker story. The story wasn't the best, but at the same time it did keep me interested. The cast did well. The music was alright, and served its purpose. As for rewatch value, it's probably not one of the types of movies i would rewatch, unless it's been a good 2-3 years since i last watched it and thus forgot everything that happened. Overall though, this is a solid movie which is even better if you're a fan of Takeshi Kaneshiro. It's perfect for a lazy Saturday.

Kaneshiro Takeshi+action=must see for me! Okay, I realize I'm just a BIG fan girl when it comes to this handsome man. No, this is not only E.T like but add in a little The Matrix and this is definitely this movie. I'd only seen the lead female, Suzuki Anne in Sacred Monsters but as Milly, she was good. But hats off to Takeshi doing action! Now I'll have to comb through his movies for more. He was so bad-ass!! If you are not a Sci-Fi buff, this is not for you!! Because the action was great!!

Pretty fun Terminator knock off

Takashi Yamazaki's Returner is an absolutely bonkers riff on Sci-Fi staples like Men in Black and The Terminator, so much of it is borrowed it's almost like watching a tribute band perform the greatest hits. It's pretty much carried by its incredible cast of actors, brilliantly violent tendencies and brisk pacing that help you deal with the awful colour grading, hid the gaping plot holes and accept so-so VFX. Gonna be interesting to see what he does with the next Godzilla film in a year...
