Adaptation from Soul Land anime…95% different story meant for young audience.

I've noticed that the same scriptwriter is behind "Joy of Life," "Sword Snow Stride," and this drama. It seems that he consistently uses only 5% of the original story to create an entirely new storyline. As someone who has read the novels, I find it disappointing. However, I understand that viewers who haven't read the novels may have a different experience. While the first 5 minutes of the drama are identical to the original story, everything else is different. Characters have different personalities, backstories, and even relationships.

This story is intended for a young audience and fans of light fantasy novels. While that's okay, the level of believability is low, and it feels quite childish.

The "Soul Land" anime consists of 265 episodes, each 20 minutes long. It tells the story of a young adult soul master who is reincarnated in another dimension and uses his knowledge from his previous life to advance his power. Throughout the episodes, we see him grow from a child to a man alongside his friends. I also miss the clarity of the "levels" mentioned in the anime series. For example, 10 represents the 1st ring, 20 represents the 2nd ring, and so on. It provided an easy way to understand who had power and who didn't. The screenwriter decided to alter this essential aspect of the story. In the anime, every soul master aims to reach above 70 levels.

Some characters are different, like the teacher. In the drama, he appears weak and gets kidnapped, while in the novel, he is knowledgeable and strong and does not get captured. I didn't recognize the character of the 7 devils team. Wu was playing her character well, but I felt no chemistry with Zhao Xian.

I wasn't impressed with the acting, possibly because it seemed childish. For instance, the teacher faints, wakes up, immediately stands up, and then realizes he's supposed to be in pain. I admit that I fast-forwarded a few times after episode 9. At times, it felt overly childish.

In my opinion, the screenwriter and director failed to capture the essence of the anime. The special effects were well done and the only praiseworthy aspect.

The choice of actors is average. I decided to watch this drama because of Zhao Xian and my fondness for the anime series, but I don't think it's his best role. It doesn't compare to "The Untamed" where his performance was exceptional.

Regarding the OST, I was surprised to hear the same music as "The Love Like a Galaxy." It's a 2-year difference, and maybe the composer thought nobody would notice or remember?

On a side note, it's amusing to discover an actor who played a supporting role in "Joy of Life" (Prince Jing’s son) in a new role in this drama. Same mannerisms. Liu Run Nan.

It's frustrating when a show has a sad ending, especially when it was supposed to have another season. The ending was meant to be bittersweet and show the main character becoming a god master in season 2. Unfortunately, the show had low ratings or a limited budget. This is the only plausible explanation, as it aired in 2021, and after 3 years, there are no rumors of another season. It's a complete disregard for many viewers who expected a happy ending! Another major difference from the anime series: Wu and Tang San got married, as well as the other two couples. The Phoenix guy got a girlfriend, and all the antagonists died, while the protagonists lived happily ever after with Tang San, a god soul master protecting the world.

In conclusion, it's a disappointing drama with a sad ending.

What ! Drama ends with suspense

When I was at last episode I didn't realised it was the last one ,after completion I found that there was not any next episode then I came to know this drama had only 40 episodes. I looked for next episode not because I was obsessed with the story actually it had incomplete ending .
My last expression after ending of last episode was "what", what is this , DRAMA is overed .
So there is a need of second season of the drama otherwise " A big disappointment with the drama".
Each actor's acting was good . Second episode was little funny . My favourite character was played by female lead (the one who has power of rabbit somey like that) ,her character is true,purify ,no bad attitude towards anyone ,ready to help, so pure soul and she looked cute all the time . I think this character has some secrets . If there is second season so I think her secrets will unfold. I hope if there is a second season so same actors I like to see because while watching any drama I think viewers deeply connected with characters. It is hard to accept new characters .

Spannung und sehr gute Unterhaltung

Ich habe alle 40 Episoden gesehen und auch teilweise schon mehrmals.
Das Drama gefällt mir ausgesprochen gut, denn es hat einen spannungsreichen Handlungsfluss, der immer stärker wird und den Zuschauer mitreißt.
Obwohl ich mich überhaupt nicht für Level im Kampf oder diese Art von Entwicklung einer Hauptrolle im Roman, Manga, Anime oder Film interessiere, hat mich das TV-Drama überzeugt.
Es gibt eine sehr gute Interaktion zwischen den unterschiedlichen, von Schurke bis Komiker, Charakteren, die höchst unterhaltsam ist. Das Schauspiel gefällt mir, es ist hochwertig und abwechslungsreich.
Die Hintergrundgeschichte verliert ihre Spannung nicht, entwickelt sich aber auch ständig, so dass der Zuschauer nicht irgendwo festhängt.
Nach den ersten fünf bis sechs Folgen wird es etwas ruhiger, weil Spannung für die mysteriösen Seelenmutationen aufgebaut wird. Und eigentlich hoffe ich, dass dieses Thema auch noch nicht beendet ist und in Season 2 wieder aufgegriffen wird.
Die Musik ist sehr zurückhaltend, was aber überhaupt nicht störend ist.
Viele Figuren habe eine enormes Entwicklungspotential, so dass ich sehr auf die Fortsetzung hoffe. Und auf weitere sehr gute Unterhaltung.

as someone whose a huge fan of the novel series

I actually saw this drama first a year ago maybe
..
I don't even remember how I came across this story... I was just looking to watch something to kill my Time so I ended up watch the anime version of this and later the whole novel series upto the 3rd book and a few chapters here and there of 4th and 5th book ...
So as a huge fun I definitely had quite a few expectations from this but was sadly disappointed not much tho I did watch the whole thing from start till finish but definitely won't re-watch since it's so long ...
the anime had a lot of details and beautiful setting .. it makes sense the show was not able to match that level as it would require huge amount of money probably... so I was initially ok with that but as a fan I definitely expected some set to match with the animated version but unfortunately it did not and then we have the changed storyline...like his background..his past life .. I definitely would have loved if they kept it but instead it was some idk magic book types which gave him knowledge on his mechanical weapons..
the casting was not bad and this was definitely the show that made me a fan of the ml xiao zhan ..
Ig the overall acting could have been better maybe?
in the novel as well as anime the fl was sure a little childish but that's because she was a child they were probably hardly 14 .. but the actors are definitely older than the characters they r supposed to portray

very entertaining!

I have to say that i enjoyed the series immensely and hope that a second season will manifest. It was light-hearted and fun to be entertained by this group of young actors. Being American, I actually prefer watching Chinese movies and streaming series like this. The sets are always magnificent and the stories similar, they tend to be heroic and good messages abound. However, it would be nice to see the romantic couple live happily in the end. More often than not the protagonist loses his love interest at the end of story. Wu and Tang San had great chemestry and it was sad to see them have to separate at the end of season 1. LoL. I recommend it. Good Formula Film. As an American, I find the Chinese movie industry very refreshing.

Cantikkk banget sih Jiejieku😍 Wu Xuanyi Jie 😘 你真的太美了。Xiao Zhan Ge juga ganteng banget 好帅啊😘 Suka Wu Xuanyi Jie semenjak di WJSN terus ke Rocket Girl 101 dan sampai sekarang masih suka dan ngefans banget sama Xuanyi Jie. Kalo Xiao Zhan Ge udah suka dari dulu juga sebenernya, dari drama The Untamed sampai drama drama yang lainnya pun juga selalu nonton. Waiting for season two please..

If you have watched the anime version which is still ongoing, then do lower your standard for drama version. Drama version is more compact and skipped quite a lot of nitty gritty and straight to the main story. I have not watched the anime but my hubz is watching it so I kind of peeped at his screen at times. Lol..

Everything as this is Wu Xia mixed with fantasy and I love the story about soul masters, soul beasts and soul rings. Everything soul interests me.

40 episodes are too little for this amazing drama while some crappy ones get 70 episodes?!

I remembered cursing at the last episode as it ended too soon.

Rated standard five stars as not even one song is to my liking though there are Lala Hsu and Liu Yu Ning. *rolled eyes*

Heart-Warming story

I enjoyed this drama. First of all, I have been looking for Xiao Zhan’s drama and was very happy to find one. I like the character development and the growth of the main as well as supporting characters throughout the story. I also like the idea of the openness of Shrek Academy that teaches students thinking outside the box and giving them more experiential learning opportunities although those opportunities involve many dangers and adventures. One of my biggest take-away from Shrek Academy is “do not judge a book by its cover.” They were many relationships, friendships, love, sacrifice, and redemption evolving around the characters, which was kind of old school but it was enough to warm my heart during this pandemic period. Although the storyline could have been more solid, especially with Xiao Zhan’s father, story development of other supporting characters, and the ending, this give me something to look forward to in season 2. To me, Ou Si Ke seems like the most funny and hilarious character that spies up the show. He stood out as the most fun actor to watch (Pretty surprised to see this side of him after seeing him in arsenal academy). Also like Xiao Zhan’s character, which matches well with him and his previous role of WWX in Untamed. Because I was watching with an app, I didn’t really get a chance to listen to any music but I didn’t have any problem with much. Chinese fantasy drama always fascinates me because they have so many different topics, themes, study object, creative aspects embedded in the story. It was nice to see another beautiful fantasy, adventure, and action drama.

In short, if you like light-hearted fantasy and adventure drama, I would recommend watching it.

Dropped. Did not do the donghu justice

I watched this because the Soul Land donghua is literally my fave donghua of all time. I had high hopes because I’m also a HUGE fan of cdramas. I literally live to watch it. But I could not get past episode 4. I disliked that they decided to change that he reincarnated and instead let his dad teach him the skills he learnt in his previous life. It actually entirely defeats the purpose of Tang San being overly smart and talented and then using that knowledge in that world. It didnt make sense for either of his parents to hand those techniques down because in the world of soul land, only Soul Masters and Soul beasts are a way of power. I felt that it didn’t bring out how unique he really is in the fact that he actually lived another life. I’m not even sure if he has the ambition to create the Tang sect like he did in his previous life but I didn’t stay to find out. The forest was lacklustre.lt looked like a normal forest. I’m not even sure if I’m the later episodes they entered the forest deeper and the trees and plants looked different ( I know in his dreams the forest looked how it did in the donghua but when he went to get his first soul beast it was just a plain bland forest). Xiao Wu. Xiao Wu from the start was not giving anything. She was definitely not the same like the donghua and I actually got irritated with her at one point. I felt that they way too quickly forced them to be together. Sure in the donghua it’s different but they were small kids and she just seemed better and he even seemed more mature as a kid in the donghua than he did in the drama. I have no other way of saying it. I felt she was too childish and he just immediately accepted her for the sake of the plot. that’s what it looked like to me. I have no hate towards Xiao Zhan. I like him as an actor I just felt that they didn’t do the donghua justice by making this.

Fantasia, lutas, visual impressionante e atuação matadora de Xiao Zhan.

Douluo Continent é mais um drama chinês de fantasia, cheio de intrigas, facções, poderes e como de costume, cenas de luta que impressionam. A história é diferente, mas a temática não é tão original, no entanto isso não prejudica a série, pois os episódios são muito gostosos de assistir e mantém o espectador entretido.

A atuação do Xiao Zhan é muito boa! Para quem viu ele em Untamed e já curtiu, com certeza vai gostar da sua atuação em Douluo. Os outros atores também são ótimos em mostrar as facetas de cada personagem e cativam o espectador.

Com relação aos efeitos visuais eu achei que estão bons e as cenas de luta são muito bonitas. Eu gosto muito de como eles fazem as lutas nas séries de fantasia chinesa, pois parece uma dança.

Como nem tudo são flores, o ponto negativo dessa série é o final complemente aberto (eu odeio finais abertos), ficou claro que deixaram dessa forma na expectativa de uma segunda temporada. Apesar disso, eu ainda recomendo a série, pois o tempo que gastei assistindo valeu a pena, me diverti muito!
