I went into this movie blind. I was expecting to not like at all, as I'm not a fan of romances, and the shojo romance adaptations I've seen have been just meh to infuriating. This movie defies all that, with a light-hearted but interesting storyline and a love triangle that didn't make me wanna pull my hair out.

I'll start first with the story. Honestly the whole movie reminded me of Hana Yori Dango in a way, with how the love triangle played out. Usually I find the cold guy in these kind of love triangles to just be a really bad character. However in this case he (Mitsuki) was a really good dude. Taiyo was also a great character and his friendship with Mitsuki was really wonderful, and I found Sei to be an adorable and relateable character. The whole movie actually kept me guessing on who was going to get the girl and to my surprise I got it wrong. My biggest gripes with the story is the bullies were annoying and I found that the movie didn't show Sei's reasoning for the guy she picked as as much as I thought they could.

Now as for acting, really good. Sei's actress is experienced and it comes through. I admit I only watched this movie for Taiyo's actor (Sato Taiki) but I also thought he did a great job. Mitsuki's actor is a newcomer, though I have seen him in 3-nen A-gumi, but he also did excellently and I look forward to seeing more of him in the future.

I honestly didn't notice the soundtrack at all, which means it's good enough to at least no get on my nerves. The cinematography is wonderful with beautiful color, made me miss my old life in the countryside where I could see he stars every night!

All in all, if you want something light and fluffy this movie is a good pick for a warm summer night.

" 4-gatsu no Kimi, Spica " was a really good rom com.

As a shoujo manga adaption, 4-gatsu no Kimi, Spica was really good. The romance was nice and over the top adorable, with sweet moments and a nice love triangle. Even the twist towards the end, though cheesy, it was nice. The friendship of the two boys were really good too. The characters' chemistry was pretty intense too. So, yes, the story is predictable, but it is cute, sweet, enjoyable and entertaining. The performances were really good too from all actors and actresses.

So, overall, eight out of ten for this manga adaption.

Bromance Interrupted

I was expecting a typical angsty teen drama with two boys interested in the same girl, and it delivered in a lackluster storyline. This story was that, but on a repeat cycle. It was obvious, to me. from the beginning who Sei would end up with. She meets Taiyo in class and has a bad first encounter with him. Later, she makes friends with Mizuki who notices her love of stars and introduces her to the Astromomy Club that Taiyo also belongs to. I knew that there was another girl lurking in their past who was bound to make an appearance and she did in the character of Sak, a middle school friend i who was a member of the original Astronomy Club trio.

Saki's return pushes Sei to recognize her feelings or at least has her questioning them. The boys also have to face the past and their love triangle. The three were friends in middle school and Saki liked Taiyo, but was jealous that he paid more attention to to Mizuki. She kissed Mizuki because she was jealous and purposefully hurt Taiyo. What plays out when Saki returns is that she expects to pick up where she left off. She was a manipulative bulldozer, playing on Taiyo's guilt for a past incident, none of which was his fault. The decision she made to stand in the rain, knowing she has a heart condition was her own. Had he shown up, they would still have been in the rain and he couldn't have changed anything, especially as a middle school student. She tries to pull him back to her side, playing up her illness in a very selfish way and even admits she refused surgery because of the complications and her remaining ill would keep Taiyo by her side.

There isn't much in the way of original storyline nor character growth other than Sei making peace with her bullies as they encourage her. It ended the way it started - rather underwhelming.

Kept me on the edge of my seat.

Woa! This was such a heartwarming movie. Even though the base of the story is very simple and dare i say mainstream, the way the writer and director kept me on the edge of my seat was very well executed. I was completely qlueless untill the very last 10 minutes on how the story would end. And to be fair, i didnt mind it at all. The actors were great. And even though there were obvious hints about the female leads general feeling throughout the story, i felt very much comfortable with either choises she could have made in the end. Very great story about new and old friendships.
