came here because of Leon Zhang and didn't expect to be this good.

Well, a bit long for 38 episodes but i really love their friendship and how they always be there for each other. No triangle love whatsoever, just a bad brother who does anykind of things for his own sake.
The business things takes a lot of story but you can skip bit by bit if you don't like it.

Overall, i enjoy this drama and romance of the main leads and their friends, not in a hurry, slowly but sure and steady.

Beyond Expectations

The longest post is ahead, so there are some key thoughts that might be useful for you if you're guessing whether to watch a drama or not. Then I’ll go praising every single aspect of this brilliant series. And probably only those who, just like me, have watched the whole drama and now strive to stay (if only one more hour) with the story, will read the post till the end. We’ll see.

Topics: quite modern and universal, dealing with females’ rights, working ethics, balance between work and love, friendship, family issues, unhappy childhood and rivalry.

Characters: adorable, likeable and very alive. Even supporting roles have got some bright and believable personalities you enjoy watching. The main characters are well-thought and portrayed really well. All of them are possible to be someone’s favs.

Plot: logical, well-written, at times dramatical and doesn’t contain too many cliches (if they look like ones, they at least have good reasoning and don’t happen just for the sake of a genre).

Music: nice and cozy, in the process of watching you grow into loving it and smiling broadly whenever hearing the familiar tunes.

Pace: not really fast, since every case needs some episodes to be solved. Relationships also make progress very gradually but it’s worth it. There’s no rush and everything looks realistic.

Rewatch value: I’ve watched the drama twice in a row and don’t feel like parting with it now. I must translate it into my native language just to stay with this story a bit longer!

Ending: some little things were unexpected, some unexplained, but mostly I’m satisfied. All the main storylines have logical and happy endings.

Well, it’s been already a lot of words said here. I don’t have to justify a reason why I’m writing all this. This series just deserves some estimation. If you’re not afraid of long reads, come along!

***

This is the best drama about modern times I’ve seen so far. Like many others, it sticks to a narration about the main couple and their friends who also have some relationships. The characters mostly solve their working or romantic problems. But unlike many others, the drama seems very real and suggests very live issues for any person: protecting the people one loves, telling good from evil, following professional ethics, working responsibly, facing deception, treating people around with kindness and respect, learning to trust or distrust the close ones, standing against injustice and keeping one’s heart pure and tender even in an imperfect world.

Even if the story weren’t flawless, it would be interesting to watch due to the characters. Fan Shu Chen is the main character and he’s probably one of my most loved male heroes by now. He combines a great professionalism, luck, charm, energy with such less seen traits as honesty, idealism, being true to his dreams and beliefs no matter what it would cost him. From the very beginning it’s obvious that his company ‘Feilin’ owes him its flourishing state – and yet we may feel a foreshadowing of an upcoming misfortune. The higher you rise, the harder you fall. The scenes when Shu Chen realizes how quick his company is to turn on him are really heartbreaking. Even love hardships don’t compare with the thought that his life principles are so vulnerable before the world of dishonest and manipulative people. Shu Chen isn’t perfect (he has some shortcomings as well) but he’s too pure and softhearted for this cold world. The way he faces problems, professional and personal, shows his unbreakable spirit, though. He may suffer and even receive a setback but he won’t lose himself remaining a good people’s protector and a star-catcher he’s always wanted to be. Now let us combine all said above with Zhang Yun Long’s fascinating attractiveness, especially his sincere and altogether worth his salt smile; calm, cute and gentle manliness; a perfect depiction of the character… and all girls’ hearts are sure to melt. I wonder if there’s just one woman watching this drama who hasn’t asked herself where to find such a hero in a real life.

Lin Zi Yu, who is the main female character, is very cute and makes us sympathize her a lot. She’s mostly naïve but is not either clumsy, shallow, stupid or weird (we’ve had enough of such cliches by now). She’s just young and still learns her way through this world of adults. She gets some life lessons and proves herself a good friend, sister and lover. For a person who’s been an outcast for who knows how many years she’s very sociable, kind and innocent, although sometimes she seems isolated from the others. She reminds me a lot about Pollyanna and I wonder if the author’s got some inspiration from this character. She’s a poor girl without parents and money who is just good enough herself to bring light and support around. She’s like an angel she’s carrying around as a guardian. Ironically, she believes herself to be a person who brings misfortune to those who surround her. Finally, she has to choose sides between her relative and a loved one – and what a cruel choice it may be for a person who truly loves and cherishes both of them!

Although there weren’t many romantic moments between Shu Chen and Zi Yu, they make a very harmonious couple which is pleasurable to watch. They have a sweet and calm kind of romance followed by the shadow of conflicts around them. They have been compared to Romeo and Juliet more than ones and actually arise more sympathy since they are more mature and yet more pure and innocent. They seem to be in love for the first time and would sacrifice all they have for each other’s sake. That’s totally classical but, while situated in a real-life environment, it’s much better.

Shi Wei Cong appears as a stupid, clumsy and immature person at the beginning but then he realizes his limitations and learns from his mistakes. He’s a rare person who’s more than that he seems to be. He protects his friends in the ways he can think of, he’s not afraid to leave home, the place where he’s spoiled and treasured in any ways, to find his true self. He doesn’t care about property and money and he is eager to help and share even if he won’t get anything in return. What’s more, he puts up with the way others treat him (playing tricks, comparing him to an almost perfect friend, not trusting with any serious problems, teasing and using him). He’s the one who errs the most but then unites all friends. The most touching moment is when the three friends find his belongings that he’s been keeping to save the good memories of all his friends.

Ji Xuan Li is the person who has the most difficult set of personal traits. She’s a nice girl but poses like a queen. The three friends are used to it and tease her when treating her like a royalty. But her lover has a difficult time with her; no wonder they end up constantly quarrelling and breaking up. At the same time, friends are the people that just can’t leave her. Who’s there to comfort her, to protect her, to take her, drunk and crazy, home from the clubs? She’s really lucky to have them by her side. At the same time, she’s tender hearted, passionate and brave. She makes the most radical decisions and demonstrates the free will of the woman who is not afraid of letting go, perfecting herself and changing stereotypes.

Li Yang Yang is a sweet workaholic whose image is very familiar to many working women and feminists. The drama has a very vivid topic of defending woman’s rights and is very up-to-date with this question. She’s a quiet soul preferring to suffer secretly, reserved and kind. At the same time, she’s quick to act when there’s injustice. She’s also very professional and energetic which makes her in a good balance with Shu Chen. She selflessly works to give her parents a better life but eventually learns that life can give her something in return. Sometimes you don’t have to hide from relationships just because of work or fears. What’s great is that people in this series get what they deserve: if not by the laws of our real life then just by rights.

What I loved most of all, was the feeling I got from the relations between all the four friends (later – main female character included). We mostly cannot claim we have even one true friend – by saying this I mean someone bigger than a polite and friendly acquaintance but the friend to whom one’s true self can be revealed. For one, any inmost dream or fear, any suspicion or obvious nonsense. This friend seems to read minds and knows your greatest talents and shortcomings. They may have different ideas and estimations of the life’s situations but eventually share your mindset. This is what we see in these characters. They are a combination of talent, childishness, diligence, vulnerability, righteousness and willingness to protect each other. The characters in this series mostly have unhappy family background but make their own family which is united not by blood but by spirit and shared memories from the saddest to the most joyful ones. I couldn’t help smiling when watching these four’s interactions. They give such a warm and cute vibe of care and belonging that you also start seeing friends in them. Friendship in this drama is not a cliché and isn’t shallow: it’s an almost palpable representation of the souls’ unity.

The plot is quite good, too. It is mostly predictable but you are enjoying all way through. The comparably low rating may be explained by the slow burn relationship between the main couple on the one hand and by the number of business-related situations at work. Personally, I loved both. I’m really a fan of well-written love story and the accurate depiction of working relationship in two teams. The motivations of all characters are very logical and psychologically believable. Neither love, required by the genre, comes unmotivated nor misunderstandings appear from nowhere. I also love the way the creators of this series combined hilarious and almost tragic moments. The comic reliefs and very tense moments are interwoven well. The flashbacks are also given logically when they are really needed to remind the viewer of some facts or explain one’s background. No teary fillers or repetitive memories are there to annoy the audience. Till the end there is a question of how Shu Chen will deal with his rival. Forgiving, letting go, doing right by and revenging seem possible options. If not pay too much attention to the credits there is one more intrigue: Yang Yang’s choice. By the way, I’ve noticed a great thing about the ending credits: the scenes are mixed up so well that you don’t get the actual events of the story in the sequence you expect. There are also a few moments when the credits have even deceived the viewer about the things that would come (I’m really impressed by them not being the ever-spoiling ending credits).

Shooting is nice as well. The office of ‘Feilin’ is quite colourful, the sea is lovely, the contrast of light and darkness is so alive. Flashbacks are shown in a slightly different technique and yet give the feel of really important scenes of one’s past. Opening and ending are dramatic, and the actual drama is interesting to watch. There are only few dramas you can watch without fast-forwarding. I also like how the symbols and other artistic devices are used. I really adore the metaphor of being a star catcher and how Zi Yu then paints the starry picture when parting with Shu Chen. Stars are the most romantic, tempting, distant and everlasting things we can find in the universe. No wonder an idealistic Shu Chen associates his beliefs with stars and Zi Yu eternizes her love this way.

Music matches the drama well. Initially I thought the ending titles’ mood was strange but not until I realized the story to be more dramatic and complex than it seemed in the beginning. The opening song is really motivating and is as pleasant as a sunny day. I never had heart to skip it because it’s so nice. Zhang Yun Long’s voice is very likeable. He’s done a great job in this drama. There’s nothing the audience could wish to be improved about his performance. Thanks to him and all other people who made this drama come out.

I keep finding more things to analyze in order to not part with the characters and a wonderful story that happened to be beyond any expectations. The morals, obvious and not, (such as taking care of parents or children, forgiving mistakes and treating others with respect, living a full life every single moment of your existence, protecting nature, accepting oneselves the way they are) teach us how to build a better society. True, this drama might seem a bit too idealistic but we do need such heartwarming and positive lessons to keep going on in a more complex and often crueler world. If even a few people fight for a harmonious community, they might change the world for the better. How can they not be heroes? We all are, so let us protect the lights in our hearts and around us just as the characters have suggested.

If you’ve read everything till the last word, you’re my hero as well. Thank you! ?

To be honest, this drama is really underated. It is a slow burn romance that makes sense. Their freindship is really beautiful. And you can see the effort the ML put in for the FL. And it is nkt like the idol dramas where the FL forgives the ML just like that and everything becomes all lovey dovey with so many misunderstandings that just doesn't make sense. The series was well executed with a brilliant cast. I saw this series last hear but it did not interest me as much. Butvafter watching the idol dramas that are all one way and predictable, I decided to give this a chance and also because of Leon Zhang. He did not disappoint. This is a must watch.

As long as you don’t take this drama too seriously, it’s a fun time. The office story is so fast paced, they don’t even bother having dialogues, which was just fine for me, I would have fast forward those parts. I get they just wanted you to see how hardworking they are with so many overnights in the office chair and McDonald’s breakfast. For sure I wanted McDonald’s breakfast and travel to Taiwan. I even looked up that soybean maker ($100)!

I do love the friendship of the 4 characters, because it is so unreal. Only in dramaland, you would drop what you’re doing, in the middle of the day, during work to meet your friends. Also, when it comes to the friends, they are so rash and ready to fight without knowing the full story. One thing for sure, they are on your side, even if you are in the wrong. Some weird scenes where all the characters finally meet and there were no dialogues! Even when they were having hot pot, they decide to decorate a bag?? The order of things that happens…

The work issues that happens to Ziyu are so trivial. But if you blink, you’d miss the forgiveness part because the drama has already moved on. One minute she gets yelled at, next she is angry about it, then she is happy back to work as usual. Actually, Ziyu’s optimistic personality is what I like about her character. She is forgiving and does not hold grudges, with her tragic childhood and mild-mannered sense of honesty, it makes her a very simple character.

I did enjoyed to slow burn romance of ShuChen and Ziyu. It took 26 eps to finally be together and first kiss! What I liked was, there were no love tri-angles nor no accidental kiss. They were committed to each other.

ShuChen has this mature and boyish look that makes him so charming. He also has a beautiful smile... he smiled a lot! He was so patient with Ziyu to accept him. Even when she disappeared, he didn’t want to force her to be with him. Funny part was when he couldn’t left the water to replace it... yet they give us a scene of him working out and showing off his abs… lol.

Yang yang was my favorite character! Her backstory was the best, it made me cry! Her motive to succeed for her dad was so moving. She put aside love and fun to focus on her goal. That’s admirable. She is the independent woman I want to grow up to be! Every parents want a daughter like her! That little worker of hers was so annoying.

XuanLi and YiHan had such a complex relationship. I barely paid attention to this couple. Xuanli was the drama queen and YiHan… I didn’t like them. But I’m glad he was able to walk away from her.

WeiCong was the comedic relief. He was so relaxed that he barely did work. How did he become a director? His relationships were also hopeless. He was so spoiled from his parents and friends. He seems to be so ungrateful.

Brother Luo was so psycho. I thought the drama was gonna forgive and redeem him in the end, but NO. He was a total villain up the very end. I don’t think he admits or apologized to ShuChen and Ziyu at all.

Re-watch? Only for the comedic scenes in ep 6 and the little romance parts of ep 11 & 26.

I also really liked the opening and ending songs by Leon Zhang and Awaken-F.

I watched episodes 1-12 and then 30-38, which is the final episode. I'm satisfied and do not plan to go back and watch the 17 episodes I skipped.

I felt compelled to skip ahead because I felt ambivalent towards the main characters and wasn't sold on their relationship/chemistry. Fan Shu Chen felt a little too self-righteous, and Lin Zi Yu felt a little too pitiful/sad. I'm not saying that Lin Zi Yu was a pushover - she definitely stood up for herself and others! Of what I saw, I didn't feel there was *unnecessary or ridiculous* drama, conflicts, or misunderstandings. (But it could have happened in the 17 episodes I skipped.)

The other reasons I skipped the middle portion involve the rivalry between the two public relations firms that is one of the central storylines, as well as a villainous character whose storyline I wish had gone in a different direction. There were some plot developments that felt clunky or contrived.

That being said, I really liked the friendship between the male lead and his three best friends. They each had storylines relating to their careers and relationships, and were genuinely loyal and supportive of each other. I would consider going back and skimming through the episodes for the storylines of the two female friends.

this is a underrated drama and really needs more help I have fallen in love with this drama it has an amazing plot and you will not regret watching it.

this drama is so good that I have rewatched it many time you can find it on YouTube and I can't believe this drama is not more hyped. I first initially watched the drama because of the female lead. I love how the female lead is strong and powerful not like other drama. she gives strong independent woman vibes and I fell in love. the characters have great chemistry it overall a very well written drama. every episode is packed with entertaining scenes normal I skip through parts of the drama but I could barely skip any because all the scenes were just as good as each other.

overall I definatly recommenced to give this drama a try because it is one of the best drama I have watched in a while

The best part of this drama was definitely the friendship between the 4 that grew up together. They had great chemistry and left you wishing you had these lifelong forever friends that stuck by you through thick and thin. The actors were all very likeable and I was invested in each of their stories. The ML, I had never watched before but he was charming and charismatic and reminded me of an Asian Patrick Dempsey from ER (McDreamy) when he smiled! The chemistry between ML and FL was okay... they looked cute together but FL has always come across as being a little too one note for me.

38 episodes was long for this drama and I did fast forward through some episodes but overall, it was an easy watch for the friendships and the ML!

If this drama was solely focus on the lives of 4 best friends and their love interests, then this would've been a smooth and simple drama but at last, the writing for this drama was pretty boring and frustrating.

The good part: I love how they showcase the friendship in this drama. You see the history of how they become best friends and how they rely and support each other even through the midst of hardship and arguments. That's true friendship right there. The cast for the 4 best friends are great. They are good at portraying their emotions. This drama also uses a bit more music than your typical Chinese drama. I gave music a 10 because all of the songs were great and there was never a moment I skip the music, the intro and ending credit.

Now for the bad parts of this drama: The female lead's character Lin Zi Yu ruins this drama to be honest. There were a few moments where she had her strong points but overall, she was a weak, frustrating, & pathetic character. Poor writing on her character. She was not likable to me as she keeps hurting the male lead, Shu Chen's heart several times. The character Luo Zong Liang should've had a character change long time ago and not at the very last minute. The misunderstanding of him being framed could've been resolved which would've led to his hatred towards Shu Chen ended a lot earlier. The plot could've been finding the real culprit behind the misunderstanding by working together. That would've made it a bit more interesting.

Romance, while there were some cute moments, it wasn't enough to support his drama overall. The romance was very lacking and not that great. At the end, a wedding to celebrate Xuan Li & Yi Han's breakup? That's not a creative idea but just lame in my opinion. It loses the whole meaning of a wedding. Shu Chen and Zi Yu had some cute moments together but not enough and again I blame the character Zi Yu for not getting her act together this whole drama. Wei Cong & Yang Yang were cute together as well but again, not enough moments together with them as a couple since they got together like around Ep 35. I mean even Yang Yang's assistant spent more time with her and I thought they were going to be a couple more than Yang Yang with Wei Cong. Don't even get me started with Xuan Li & Yi Han. Just a toxic relationship. The guy cheats several time and the girl forgives him so easily. The leads have a hard time with their relationship but this couple just brush it off just like that with a "I forgive you" after all of that cheating. Again bad writing.

I honestly only watched this because of Leon Zhang. He's one of my favorite C-drama actors. It's too bad this drama's writing & plot didn't do justice for him even though he acted pretty well. If I were to rewatch this I would just watch the cute and happy moments with scenes of the 4 best friends because the plot overall is dull and it seems like the good guys just can't win for a good while.

Decent drama about friendship, but it could have been better if it cut short to 24-30 episodes

In Youth is an old (2019) romantic comedy about friends who support each other through difficult situations.

The Synopsis: Li Zi Yu is a simple, kind-hearted, and righteous girl. She starts working at a public relations company but unfortunately meets a difficult boss. The boss, Fan Shu Chen, is a talented, hidden rich heir who is very hostile towards Zi Yu, making Zi Yu tremble with fear every day. She doesn't know that company secrets have been leaked since she started working, and Shu Chen is thus heavily suspecting her. But gradually, the two start to appreciate and admire each other. However, Shu Chen's three best friends have their theory on Zi Yu's identity, confusing Shu Chen. When Shu Chen's rival, Luo Zong Liang, appears, it becomes known that Zong Liang and Zi Yu have some relationship, which arouses suspicion that Zi Yu could be a spy sent by Zong Liang. What is the truth behind everything? And will Zi Yu and Shu Chen's love-hate relationship have a happy end

My Reviews:
1. The drama could be much better if it were reduced to 24-30 episodes instead of 38.
2. Maggie Huang, who played Ji Xuan Li's character, acted better than Qiao Xin, who played the female lead, Lin Zi Yu
3. I like Li Yang Yang's character, which Dai Si portrayed, and she did a decent job.
4. The friendships between these five characters are good. Still, the plot gets draggy because it involves a competition between two PR companies and revenge.
5. Lin Zi Yu's character is naive but also stupid. She lacks common sense and does not figure out that her stepbrother is using and framing her.
6. The ending is stupid, where her stepbrother doesn't even pay for the crimes that he has committed.

I give this drama a 6.5 rating because the acting was decent, especially from Maggie Huang and Dai Si.

I watch this drama because of Zhang Leon but don't expect will enjoy this drama

The story line is pretty good.. Not only about romance but the friendship is really strong and it's GOAL. But I don't like zinyu join their bff group and also her character. Too slow and naive girl.. Xianlu and yangyang is the best girls character and one of them should be 'shang cen gf' instead of zinyu character but it's okay.. Sometimes, too many nonsense scene in this story... Director should alerts about this for after next project.. U guys need to watch for know the story line. About the business, just enjoy.. It's really fun to learn how public relation works and the conflict about 2 company is interesting to follow

Acting? I would rate Zhang Leon 10/10.. His face impression will make girls melting hahaha... Also yangyang character.. She is the best female cast In this drama... She should be main role instead of being support .. But for honestly, i really dont like ziyu character.. Slow and too naive like wtf girl, dont be too naive towards people.. Her acting also looks not natural and not into it.. Maybe it is just director intention

Music? I dont really know.. I'm always skip the opening and closing for episodes

Rewatch value? If you don't like business drama, I'm don't recommend you to watch again. Maybe you should skip and focus on romance parts only

And overall, this drama is very good and please watch it
