This is just the sweetest little drama - I totally loved it :D The interaction of the dad & son felt so totally real - which comes from this being based on a real life story of course :d The plot included a lot of atypical scenarios (ie pretty little boy having a female persona may be normal enough & also some fangirls' dream, but not seen very often in dramas - just one example). The use of Final Fantasy (which simply has gorgeous graphics - best on the beautiful scale in my opinion) really emphasized the relationship between father & son, plus the inner growth of the father. Gamers everywhere can empathize with this. Plus the subtle humor throughout truly added to the enjoyment.
I highly recommend this to anyone who is a gamer or who knows one!
The fact that Mama is totally into KDramas (HOYA!!! I saw HOYA!) thrilled me :D I immediately identified with her LOL

I am writing this from the view of a long time MMORPGer and as a parent.  This is cute little story that almost made me want to resubscribe to WOW...then I remember my 8 characters pain and decided to let them be. 100 Levels and 400 pets later it is time to let them rest.  Oh right back to the review.

It is cute, only 8 episodes so a tight story line.  It is a slice of life drama based on a true life story.  You believe this household exists and the bonds that are there even if only loosely.

And yes Mom loves Kdrama, Alot.

Episode 8 though totally not needed for story progression, be warned.

I enjoyed this, I hope you do too

Sweet surprise

Decided to watch this on a whim mainly because it’s only 8 episodes and so different from my regular genre. It gives a glimpse of Japanese work and family culture in the most interesting way. I don’t know much about video games but here it was used as a most effective tool in reaching out to an older dad who was silently grieving the changes happening in his life. There’s plenty of love, patience, commitment and persistence with a subtle touch of funny in this one. I highly recommend this for those looking for a short and light entertainment.

Even though Final Fantasy XIV: Hikari no Otousan was a short drama, they managed to present the story wonderfully. Plus, my only fear that the CGI would be terrible, was quickly dashed, as the computer graphics were decent and they didn't take over the drama. The story was nice, with slice of life vibes and a touching theme. I can only describe this as a nice treat. The performances were really good as well. My only concern is that the story was kind of simple and it didn't help me feel all those emotions that were produced by the idea behind the plot. So, seven and a half out of ten.

I didn´t know what to expect from this show. Normally i don´t like Japanese shows so much. But this one surprised me! The story goes about the bond between father and son. This bond is not so good and the son tries to connect with his dad through the online game Final Fantasy, anonymous. To discover why his dad stopped working.
It is a very light hearted show and very funny and recognizable, especially, for the beginners in gaming.
The episodes are just 30 minutes and the story is very fast. You will fall in love with every character in this show. I hope they will make a season 2.
I want more!!!

A show with a plot this bizarre could only come from real life. While the dynamic between father and son seems awkward to me, the acting collaboration between Osugi Ren and Chiba Yudai is adorable enough that the show never seems to feel stunted. It has a strong supporting cast, too, with all of the characters having well-crafted quirks that make you want to follow their individual stories long after the main narrative has ended.

Overall, a heartwarming series that's surprisingly profound despite the light atmosphere that it aims for during most of its runtime. Because of the interesting parallel between the son's journey into adulthood and the father's eventual acceptance of his old age and the quick passage of sweet time, there's never a dull moment in this show. The episodes are very short, too. I would definitely want to watch parts of this again.

PS I was very sad to hear about what happened to Osugi Ren. Knowing that made watching this show feel even more significant.
