This is an incredibly ugly movie that I nonetheless enjoyed and couldn't look away from- that's pretty meta considering that this seems to be the crux of the film itself. The violence depicted, rather than being glamorised, is spontaneous and often cruel, yet you the watcher, and the people within the film, follow it with eagerness. Rather than helping the wounded or stepping in (until it's too late, at least), the spectators of the brawls are content to stand by, film the action, post it on social media to riotous public interest- and in Kitahara's case, join in with sadistic glee. Destruction Babies doesn't exist to entertain, it exists to educate, or at least warn, of the transformative effects of violence on a personal and social level. Violence isn't so much of a trait as a disease that can breed within one person and spread to many, many more.
Yagira Yūya had about three or four lines in total but he was absolutely incredible in the most disturbing way possible. Suda Masaki and Komatsu Nana over-acted in some instances but they played their roles with a near-despicable prowess. If you don't like seeing a lot of blood this might not be the best film to watch to wind down.

(SMH people shouldn't instantaneously give a film a poor review without considering its purpose)

Okay I was supposed to ignore this movie bc eventho I LOVE Nana and Suda, I haven't seen good reviews about this movie. Alas, I watched Nana and Suda's movie together and I NEEDED to see hem onscreen together again so I caved in and I.... surprisingly liked the movie? Don't get me wrong! Yes, it has a very shallow plot; yes it has lots of violence and yes there are some scenes that might trigger some people BUT the bad reviews gave me enough warning for those so when I watched it, I was prepared for the movie to be horrible but it turned out to be a decent movie afterall.

Yuya did SO GOOD at his role. He nails every expressions (he doesn't really talk so that was very important) and really tells us what needs to be said in just a stare!! I'm definitely a fan now!! He's also really hot lol

Suda did great too! The character development was really nicely done, if I haven't seen some clips from the movie beforehand I wouldn't have expected that (I know it's written in the synopsis but I forget them really quickly bc i wanna be surprised while watching haha)! He really suit these kinds of deliquent, uncontrollable & one-tap-away-from-beating-you-up roles!

Nana!! What a bitch! She does it really well!! I wish we could've seen more of her (she does have a lot of scenes but i stan her so it can never be enough for me lol). Once again, chemistry between her and Suda was great (be warned though bc Suda's really abusive on this one).

I'd give it 6.5/10! Some long shots could've been shorter. Plot could've had more substance. Though, I interpret it as watching a boy spiral down towards destruction. It was enough for me to go on with the story.

Ps. Nijiro is here too! He did great as well! Him and Yuya coukd really pass as brothers visually. I wish I could've seen more of him too.

Also, the ending was great, gave me goosebumps.

The violence was really uncomfortable to watch & it is nearly impossible to empathise with any of the characters. I think that was the intended point according to reviews I've read but not sure of the purpose for this. Also I read that it was supposed to comment on Japanese society but unsure what exactly said commentary may be! Maybe the odd glimpse during the shopping district fight scene regarding the voyeuristic nature of society or the overall disparity of youth. But even so; I'm really unsure if that is it or as to what else it may be.

There's no reason given for any of the characters motivations either. I'm guessing Suda's character is just chaos in general & to feel superior, but why? Nothing is even hinted as to why he's so unsatisfied & the same applies to Taira, he's just someone who beats on anyone he can. Because? Well we never actually find out. Nana's character is just sort of dragged into things; but she's not likeable either & again we barely discover anything about her.

Basically it's just a movie with violence for no rhyme or reason!

Acting seemed good with everyone putting their all into their respective roles; even Komatsu Nana which I find questionable at the best of times. But besides that, there's absolutely zero I could take from this other than the feeling like I wasted my time!

I found this to be an extremely uncomfortable & headache-inducing viewing experience! I especially had trouble with the score/soundtrack. It is frenetic & an assault on the ears but I feel like it suits the intended style of the movie so it has that going for it!

Watch at your own risk.
