It started in June, while I was still living in Korea that I suddenly started hearing about this movie everywhere. All of my friends were anticipating it and sharing the trailers everywhere and when the movie finally came to theaters, most of them went to see it immediately. They would come back with their minds blown and tell me how good it was and how I "must go see it". Well, I left Korea before I had the chance to, but luckily it was shown in a movie festival here in Finland and I was able to book the tickets.

Train to Busan is an action packed intense thriller that keeps you on your toes at all times. The movie is categorized as horror, but I wouldn't consider it as such; quite frankly, I wasn't scared at any point (I don't believe in zombies, maybe that's why). Startled, yes, but not scared. The story is fast-paced and well tied-together and I really liked the way they concluded the ending. That being said, I don't think it is as good as it was played out to be.

The acting in the movie is top-notch with the exception of a few cast members (you know who I mean). It is a well-known fact that Gong Yoo is a great actor but some other performances in this movie were just as amazing, if not more. My favorite character without a doubt was Sanghwa, played by Ma Dong Seok. His character brought in a refreshing humor aspect, but he was also portrayed as a great, warmhearted husband and a total badass. I fell in love with Choi Woo Shik and his tight baseball pants and we can't forget the female lead, Jung Yu Mi. She was a well-built, strong and believable character. Kim Soo An was very convincing, I'm sure we'll be seeing her a lot in the future.

However, with the great acting aside, I feel like this movie lacked a bit in the plot department. I am not a horror movie lover, in fact, it's the number one genre I usually avoid, just to be able to get a good night sleep. Still, a bit more excitement would have been in place. To be honest, a zombie movie categorized as horror can't possibly have huge surprises on the way but occasionally it felt like the plot was dragging a little bit and certain sequences were repetitive and at times even boring. There was a strange realism to the bright lighting of the the movie that reminds the viewers of the fact that it doesn't have to be night for terrifying things to happen. Regrettably, even so I somehow think that a darker setting would have helped to make the horror more... horrory.

To name a couple more successful choices that were made, I definitely enjoyed the styling of the zombies as well as other graphics. The music was also fast paced and added to the intensity. All in all Train to Busan is a movie worth watching, although I suggest you don't jump into it with too high expectations, just to avoid unnecessary disappointment.

The only reason  i saw the movie because  Gong Yoo was it. Though i heard that it was good a movie, i didn't have much expectation. I though it was just a typical zombie horror, But it really exceeds my my expectation. The story is good , but the acting of the cast that made is movie so great. Music made the movie more suspenseful, CGI  was very good, zombies looked realistic. It doesn't have a lot of scary scenes, but it really made my pulse running high. It made me guessing whats going to happen next. It is more like a zombie/drama film. Also there were some real emotional scenes( real tearjerker). I would like it more if it have happy ending. It is a must watch movie.

Yes, it's another zombie movie. Yes, people die. Yes the character you may be supporting may or may not die.

What sets this one apart is the superb acting of the leads. Gong Yoo is at his best! Ma Dong Seok is quite at a peak of his talent! The other actors are really amazing in lending an air of believeability in the cliche world that is Zombie Films. Yet, with all the zombies aside, this movie does portray the heroic (cliche) and horrible (cliche) parts of humanity at its best. You will be supporting the hero and wishing bad karma on the lead baddies. It will have you on the edge of your seats.

The story is well paced. The important characters all get a slice of development. The cause of the apocalypse was also explained. Not something usually gained from the normal zombie movie.

The effects! O my! Like wow! The zombies looked exactly like what you would expect them to be! It was also different to see this type of movie in the day, and not the scene setting of the night and darkness. The trains were utterly magnificent! The train yard effects and other vehicles were as real as real could get on screen. CGI or props they really hit the mark on that!

If you are a fan of zombie flicks this is a must see, it won't let you down. It has everything to like with the genre in an action packed capsule!

I'm speechless and still crying. This is by far the best zombie movie I've ever seen. No wonder it has so many 10 ratings... but I just can't give it a 10 even though I'd like to. The reasons are:

- So many things were left unexplained. For example, what happened after the outbreak? Did humanity in general managed to survive? How exactly was the virus caused (we only know WHO caused it)?
- I'd have liked to see the survivor's lifes years later. Surviving that kind of thing is obviously traumatic and I'd have liked to see how they kept living (if they did).
- Even though my eyes felt like they were glued to the screen (I just couldn't stop watching), I noticed some things that just don't make sense. I won't say which ones are because I want this to be a spoiler-free review, but if you watch you'll most probably find them.

Everything else in this movie is perfect. The zombies look real af, the reactions of the people trapped on the train, their feelings... everything is amazingly portrayed. I have nothing more to say than go watch 'Train to Busan' right now. You're missing one of the best action movies ever.

It will ruin your day

But in a good way. This movie is so well done but it’ll TUG on your heartstrings. Nowadays zombie movies are always copy pastes from each other, and though you can’t do many different things with this genre, this movie totally does it. You get attached to the people there and at some point you really start fearing if your favourite character will die (they probably will here ..) it’s heartbreaking, especially the ending. I’ve been told to watch this movie since forever and always pushed it behind, today I watched it and it kept my attention as well as my emotions. Amazing casting, great acting and overall an amazing plot of the movie. So much action and suspense, I loved it. You won’t regret watching this!!

You will enjoy the movie

OMG!!! This movie is a masterpiece, I have never been a fan of zombie-horror movies, although I watch them. But this Korean movie was an exception.
The character development, the love and sacrifice of a parent (from the two fathers), and the relationships between the passengers on the train (both good and bad) all make the movie an overall GOOD movie. I definitely enjoyed the acting, pacing, and texture of the story. At the end of the movie, I realized that the real villains of the story were not the zombies but the humans. The strife between them and the philosophy of individualism, that is, to fight for yourself and sacrifice others in order to survive, is what makes humans the real villains. But this clearly portrays the reality of life, where everyone only cares about themselves and struggles for their own benefit.
If you watch this movie, you are definitely going to cry for at least 30 minutes after the movie. As I am writing this, I am still crying. So if you don't enjoy movies that make you sad, then don't watch this.

Great film with weaknesses

This movie has everything I love – Zombies and tragedy.

Sadly, it didn't meet my expectations for a good Zombie film, it relies heavily on the watcher's wishes and emotional needs instead of trying to be as true to the genre as possible.

Effects, make-up, direction and acting are splendid, there are some very emotional moments that might bring tears to one's eyes, but it gets dragged down by bad characterisation and conveniences.

Most of the cast behaves extremely irrational, the mistakes they make are unrealistic and too many of them play the hero to save complete strangers, the characters that do survive, are those that would have been one of the first to die if the movie had put some effort into being realistic, not idealistic.

On top of that, it's inconsistent with its own rules, they change whenever it fits the narrative, characters forget them to drive the story forward and create drama, then remember them just to do something heroic or give someone a happy end.

If you don't mind all of this, then the film is definitely up there with some of the best Zombie movies.

It has what is needed to make a compelling watch; decent action scenes, fast Zombies, tragedy, and first-class direction, with actors that are both convincing as the characters they play and more than enough talent to lift the movie out of the mediocre mess we got over the past 10 years.

I hate this movie so much. It's pretty much an absolutely perfect zombie movie, so perfect that I didn't realize I hadn't seen a perfect zombie movie before. But that's why I hate it. I hate it because it captured the tragedy, the hopelessness, the fear, everything, it captured it all perfectly.

Be Warned, should you watch this, have some tissues, and maybe some ice cream, ready.

A really , really , captivating watch.

Train to Busan was always on my watchlist but I felt really compelled to watch it now especially in these pandemic times . I’m so glad I did because it actually distracted me from the Covid- 19 news in a good way .

I really think that what makes a good movie is it’s ability to engross you into its world unabashedly and entirely . A movie is really epic when it has you feeling its effects , motifs and themes on an emotive level . A movie is especially ground breaking when it offers perspectives illustrated uniquely and has you thinking about them long after the credits roll. All of that is Train to Busan .

This dystopian/ horror movie encapsulated my attention for its entire run . Great story build up with the father / child relationship remaining the core . It also had superb character progression that was fuel for really sad climaxes . I must also warn that there are a goodly amount of jump scares so be prepared!

I especially admired the use of a zombie contagion vehicle to transport the human elements at the core of this dystopian film . The commentary on selfishness, individualism , big corporation and community was very welcome and displayed that this movie had brains and heart .

Acting was superb with Gong Yoo leading the charge . The nuance he employed in this role was absolutely commendable and he once again , brought amazing pathos . Ma Dong Seok portrayed an extremely capable person so fluidly and Jung Yoo Mi was really compassionate in her performance. Supporting cast was great too and special mention to Choi Woo Shik .

Overall- it was a captivating and tense watch which scored big in my movie checklist . It’s engrossing , captivating and brilliantly simply done .

I cried a lot while watching it!

This drama is really good!

It contains many scenes with a lot of emotion and thrill. The story is a lot deep and touching!

It's so interesting it got me totally glued to the screen the whole time! The effects where so realistic and the actors were so good that I thought the whole thing was real! I cried a lot and I the movie was so scary that I was afraid that a zombie apocalypse would happen for a whole week and couldn't sleep!

The music was okay, I guess.

The ending was just beautiful! I wasn't expecting it to end the way it did, I would have made it different though, but still this one was beautiful!

This movie isn't just another zombie movie, it teaches us to treasure and protect our family since it's one of the most important things in the world and to be good to everyone, because not being selfish may be rewarding in the future.

I recommend this movie to people who like toughing yet thrilling stories.

I would rewatch it with a friend!

Intense zombie thriller with heart

Interesting characters, great cast, terrific pacing and enough plot twists to keep the tension in this intense thriller. Although there are plenty of gory zombies, this is more a thriller than a horror movie. Think Speed crossed with The Walking Dead.

For all it’s plot, it never loses sight of the human factor which gives this thriller an added boost. They’ve announced an American re-make of this film and I can’t quite see where they want to “improve” on anything so enjoy the original.
