Why so many have missed this ?

Everything about this drama was great. Even the length shouldn’t be longer. Best performances from both main actors. People are going to sau “My name” bu Han So hee is incredible in romance dramas and even more in romance/jealousy dramas. She gives such purity to her character, something we rarely seen from her. so why 8.5?

Well as the title says “soundtrack” the music should have been better. The soundtrack, the song written process. Everything that deals with music should have been much more better. But as the rest follow we say amen.

A very powerful drama

Which was a bomb went it was released in Korea as it highlights the issues about juvenile delinquency but which in fact, resonates with every country.
Compared to similar dramas very engaged and committed that say something outloud and speaking up about crucial problems…here it is very much “romanized”, a tiny bit far from reality but not less appreciatable because it’s very well done.
What I enjoy the most personally are the side
stories. To which you can relate. The main character’s development is beautiful and interesting. Certainly her best role, both in her performance and complexity.
We also have a drama for which the end is very well made, which is usually lacking in the korean drama industry.

legendary

Oh boy. You know when a drama is one of the greatest of all time when it sticks in people’s minds no matter how many flaws it has. When I say greatest it is not like “great” but more like “a legend” like… people will remember it.

Does it mean it is not good ? I personally liked it a lot. I personally liked those old fashioned dramas because they rely more on performances than anything else. Cgi aren’t great, plot isn’t flawless, artistically speaking it is far from nowadays series’ quality in every aspect… But performances are always on point. No wonder why we remember more those actors’ names and praise them.

I think the moment of “I can seduce you in less than 10 secs” (of 5?? I can’t remember) is one of the most memorable scene of all korean series production. And it personally was at this very moment that I found myself also convinced of this series. (sorry for short spoiler)

A piece of art yet to be understood

It is crazy how such charismatic people and relaxing vibes (music, scenery…) can make you watch a whole series like this which is actually pretty empty in a way.

But in a way the whole series sounds like a poem or a piece of art because it is beautiful but the meaning is unclear and not everyone can understand it (if there is anything to understand). Yet our eyes like what they see.

I have very little to say about the rest of the drama. How can you comment on performances if you don’t understand what they are trying to play or convey.

A real romance

While you were sleeping is probably my favorite work from both celebrities here. And it is not about something specific, because to be honest W from LJS was even more terrific than this one. But after I watched all of his filmography it is this one that I remember. The soundtrack, the beautiful cinematography, the characters, the intrigue… I am fascinated by old drama like this cause’ (like always till today) they build suspens before the next episode but on this series I remember the revelations to never be disappointed. It is like you really see evolvement of the characters and constant new information about the story and it is not like (let’s make an intrigue to have one..) It is a beautiful work that is highly rewatchable. Now about Bae Suzy, I still believe it is her best role in the sense that this role fits her, she sounded natural. While on her other works, sometimes more challenging, you can see the actress behind it. Briefly, amazing romantic drama!

That being said, it might not fit the taste of everyone. It is extremely romantic. I hardly watched another drama that romantic. I mean, even today, in romantic dramas, characters have their own individuality and so personality, to the degree that you want people to ba able to identify to oneself (male/female/side character) for things they defend, like, background they come from etc. Here there is almost (and actually toward the end there is none) individuality of the characters. It’s two in one, that sort of romance. There isn’t much dramas which work that way.

Tho this is my subjective opinion on which you can disagree :)

Overrated doesn’t mean it is bad

It is overrated and overhyped but overrated and overhyped doesn’t mean it is bad. It is actually good and more than just good. Then, in my personal opinion it is far to be the best series or concept ever made and flaws in the plot and directing process can be spotted.

Tho the top review to me shares a very pertinent sum up of the series with their pros and cons. Even if reviews are always subjective, this one gives I think a very unbiased idea of how good and how bad it is.

I have nothing more to add truly but review length must meet a certain number of words.

Prolly one of the best korean series of 2023

I didn’t like Home Sweet Home season 1. It was too slow (too unnecesary scenes to the development of the story and unnecessary to sustain mystery), cgi and special effects were not on point considering the series budget, it was hard to follow the direction of the series, performances especially from Song Kang were not great and it was hard to develop any attachments to any of the characters and some characters’ development are still confusing.

BUT everyone could agree in a way that there was potential somewhere. And this is why I watched season 2.

Season 2 fixed almost all the issues we found in season 1. There was such an improvement on special effects, it played well with out emotions and personal beliefs and principles. There were a lot of twists in the series, directing intentions were cleared, Lee Jin Wook is teriffic in his role (maybe his best performance), Go Min si as well and I think it is Song Kang’s best performance.

What I like the most is how they painted the vilain in the series. I won’t give any spoilers but it is not just one vilain, the border between good and evil is very thin too, very confusing (in a good way) and very much familiar with our everyday lives. And their development is always very unexpected.

I have to say you cannot properly understand season 2 without watching season 1. And this is where the series didn’t do great. Cause there are some characters I wish I knew more about how they changed from season 1 to season 2. Some details are needed to fully understand their motivations or change of heart or whatever. And I am
eager to see season 3 because there are also new characters that I do wonder if they are truly needed here while we already have such a large cast and a lot of important characters.

Besides this, great show.

Can’t hardly go higher than 8 but it deserves all acknowledgment

I guess for most part of the series, everything is on point. The plot, the cast, the performances, the music (which people disagreed on). And then at some point it is like we are watching a different season. Not a different series but different season.

It was disturbing because we needed that development of characters and all to come to this turning point, even tho I can understand why people and the director would find it unnecessary because… we can imagine it.

But it doesn’t help us to get engaged in the story of our characters anymore. I am not sure if another ending would have been better or if netflix said « well we can’t have a longer season » and they cut it out or if a second whole season woud have been needed.

As well… the ending itself (last 2 mns) are lacking « background storyline »… Fortunately we are only talking about 1 last episode tho which is why we are not giving less than 8 for the plot.

Also what is refreshing is that it is finally a series about brotherhood and only brotherhood. Also, we appreciate a lot the humor which is more subtle than what we usually see on kdramas.

What makes it hardly rewatchable is that we know the end. There is no surprise anymore.

But thanks to the incredible performances and the first plot we enjoyed it a lot.

Doesn’t need all this hate

A lot of people said over the time how bad the drama was. It is not. The plot isn’t bad and the acting is amazing. It is refreshing to see Lee Min Oh on a different kind of role which until this series, remaines mostly the same.

The scenery is beautiful. I mean the drama is indeed gorgeous. It took us so many of us to visit the filming locations. Not just because it is a drama but because it’s beautifully filmed.

The only regret might be the ending. Some regret that it ended well (which is a spoiler tho). The problem to me is that they tried to make a complex ending and I understand it. The directing process is complex and also a reason why so many people didn’t approve. But towards the end that complexity wasn’t necessary or at least not necessary once you finished the whole drama. Not necessary to a point that instead of finishing on a good note it gives you a “unfulfilled feeling”.

Innovative storyline

A very unexpected topic. As most supensful koreans dramas, the director did a godd job as he is very subtle in hints he gives throughout the series.

Unfortunately once the light has been made, plot as well as the performance from Lee Seung-gi tend to go downwards. It is not about the ending but how it was conducted. As well he does a perfect job in the first part and second part of the drama but it wasn’t that investing towards the third act.

Dig up other characters would have been better.

It is enjoyable!

A lot of flaws in this series in pretty much everything (plot, cinematography, music, performances and so on) but still very enjoyable.

The concept is one to be stolen because it is actually good. I repeat that it is very enjoyable cause as for myself, it got me going until now and I wil prolly watch the last episode. But of course, all characters are a bit cliches and can (to me) be a reason enough to drop the series half way. I can also say that in a way it’s a bit long. Episodes are only 35 (idk exactly) minutes and a lot of scenes could be cut out to get a more intense or “normal” rythm and get straight to the point.

Then the list of flaws is long but not going to spend more time of it.

이따 만나 !

I have very little to say. I think everyone said everything already. And it is not overrated.

The last korean drama before this that was so impactful and as good as this one was Extraordinary Attorney Woo. And we are always grateful for great dramas.

Just a little note to say that to me, Ra Mi Ran’s performance is not praised enough and never will. People have no idea how hard it is to play her character. To me she was more a main character than Lee Do Hyun in a way (even if we are not here to compare) I think she deserves so much !

A tiny bit overrated but worth watching at least once in a lifetime

I watched it twice and the first time was a long time ago. But it was hard for me to make a review. Cause if you think about it… the plot is amazing, the performances are amazing, soundtrack is amazing, filming direction is amazing, special effects are amazing and it is rewatchable. So you cannot possibly give a bad grade. Like I can’t give less than 8.5 and a strong 9/10 is also understandable.

In a way when we talk about the real K drama with comedy, romance and all, we want this. An interesting and original plot AND great performances which is often lacking and often judged nowadays in a way I don’t like… Like Alchemy’s of souls or My demon or A good day to be a dog or King the land (to name a few recents) are strongly lacking in good performances. And Goblin doesn’t.

But in a way there is something a bit bothering which I have a hard time to explain. The age gap between the characters (characters not actors) is one of them but not only and that is why it was hard for me to give a review. Like… if it’s perfecr why does it feel imperfect ?

still worth watching at least once in your lifetime
