My Favorite Sci-fi Fantasy Dramas
So some people might question having dramas like “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon” or “The Masters Sun” in the sci-fi/fantasy category. But if a person has special powers or abilities, can see ghosts, or go to alternate worlds then that’s all science fiction and fantasy to me.

1. W - Two Worlds Apart
Korean Drama - 2016, 16 episodes
This has the most riveting, on the edge of your seat, what’s going to happen next, unpredictable plot line I’ve ever seen. There’s lots of action in this one including car chases, murder, and kidnappings. And it pulls off a great romance at the same time. Don’t let the comicbook world storyline put you off because it’s very realistic and makes sense. It’s incredibly funny, very romantic, and has a story no one can predict. You’ll be missing out if you skip this drama.

2. Do Bong Soon, une force de la nature
Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes
Tiny little Park Bo Young somehow pulls off being cute, kind, sassy and yet incredibly tough and powerful all at the same time. And the very handsome and manly Park Hyung Shik plays the childish puppy CEO so well. This height difference couple were pretty funny as well. I also liked the lesson it taught about how we must face our fears and stand up to bullies and do what’s right regardless of the outcome for ourselves. The character growth in this drama is refreshing but the spicy romance with great kissing scenes is what made me watch it again.

3. Angel's Last Mission: Love
Korean Drama - 2019, 32 episodes
I really liked the originality of this story. The cinematography was great making the angels look so real. Kim myungsoo’s portrayal of the cute clumsy innocent angel was on point. And Shin Hye Sun should get an award for her amazing ballerina skills. The story had depth, you just can’t predict how it’s going to end. I liked its unpredictability but I loved it’s romance. It’s very balanced and well paced and the comedy was pure gold. I’m not surprised it won so many awards.

4. Lost Romance
Taiwanese Drama - 2020, 20 episodes
This is by far one of the steamiest Taiwanese dramas I’ve ever watched. The kisses are real and the romance is so realistic and touching. The storyline is original with lots of great comedy and character growth. I avoided it in the beginning because the plot seemed a little silly and cheesy. But it actually has a very believable storyline that’s cute, funny and romantic without being over the top or silly.

5. Goblin
Korean Drama - 2016, 16 episodes
The bromance in this drama is absolutely the best I’ve ever seen. Every character is rich and multidimensional. The lead couple have great chemistry and an epic romance. The music and cinematography are top notch. The story is original and has depth. If they didn’t kill off a main character towards the end and had the ending not been so rushed it would have been at the top of my list. But it’s still just too good not to watch. It’s a great drama.

6. The Legend of the Blue Sea
Korean Drama - 2016, 20 episodes
This drama made me laugh so much, it’s comedy gold. There was a little bit of everything including romance, a dangerous killer after Lee Min Ho, traitors, and hidden identities. The story may seem frivolous and silly from the title and description but it had much greater depth than I anticipated. It was filmed in Spain and the Pacific island of Palau so the scenery is just breathtaking.

7. My Amazing Boyfriend
Chinese Drama - 2016, 28 episodes
I loved the depth of the story with all of the twists and turns it had. It kept me guessing what would happen the whole time and I usually figure things out pretty quick. The storyline is bit far fetched for some but I loved the complexity of it all. The romance is very good with lots of real kisses and skinship. And the comedy is just perfect. If you watch this then you have to watch season 2. It’s pretty good too.

8. My Girlfriend is an Alien
Chinese Drama - 2019, 28 episodes
This is an absolutely adorable drama. It’s light hearted, cute, and simply makes you laugh out loud at the silliness. Of course there are kidnappers, some trauma related amnesia, and an obsessed female that is very cliche, but it does give it some depth. And even though it has some cliches it still comes across as fresh and rather playful.

9. The Romance of Tiger and Rose
Chinese Drama - 2020, 24 episodes
This is a light sweet romantic comedy involving time travel that has an original storyline and not too much angst. It’s underlying theme of sexual equality was refreshing. Although it starts out silly and funny it gets deeper as it progresses. And the romance has great kisses and chemistry.

10. The Bride of Habaek
Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes
This is a simple story about the romance between a god and a human. The story is a bit complicated but not overly deep. But it has one of the most epic kissing scenes I’ve ever seen. Such deep passionate kissing while going up a flight of stairs and landing on a couch was a masterpiece! This is one to watch strictly for the romance.
