Couldn't get enough
This drama was captivating from the start and unearthed many layers of storyline, character development and emotions. It is different from your standard costume periodic drama and leaves the audience wanting more after each episode. The acting overall was very impressive (with no particular annoying secondary characters etc) and the scenery/visuals of the setting was stunning. Special mention to Zhao Lusi where she has clearly cemented herself as one of the top actresses in the past few years.. but she seems to exceed expectations every time! Well done

Not all that...for me hard to get through all 40 episodes
Story:-The story is too disjointed from scene to scene, you don't develop a deep care for any character really except maybe ML cuz his family is killed and he is beaten to a pulp as a kid.
-Lots of dead time and scenes that could have been a faster pace which made it drag on in the middle
-It starts out with the cruelty of being a pearl diver which I appreciated the honesty of that situation but didn't like the ML being cruel to FL as well in such an abusive and violent way that it doesn't produce any bitterness or resentment...not humanly honest.
-Didn't produce too many new characters so it was easy to guess who the villains were even the "hidden" one - there's only one that they showcased in the desert.
Acting:
- I like Zhao Lusi but it just wasn't her best role. She was able to be emotional and cry well in many scenes. And you see some maturity and growth and appreciate the designers changing her hair/clothes to show the progression.
-However, the name changing wasn't really explained per se...so someone can just change it as they please to remake themselves? And yet she's a merchant dealing with legalities which doesn't make sense.
-Small details gave it away...as a pearl diver her nails looked like she had gel nail polish on-too nice and neat
-ML was good in his role but it didn't make you really like him til much later. His sidekick was someone you like Kang Ju.
- Good chemistry between ML and FL and some of the couples in this cdrama esp Cui and Zheng
-Supporting cast did a good job: 1st set was fun to watch and good performance. but second set...how they meet and become fast friends is a little too quick for me to develop a trust and fast friendship like that
Scenes
Lots of beautiful scenes in the movie
Costuming was gorgeous
Overall: I wouldn't watch it again, there wasn't any character that was significant nor was it unique. REvenge plot
And the ending was meh in my opinion...FL lead says not to leave and then we are left to assume he left
Or maybe they left together to the desert for him to die? Who knows
Subtitling: Andthe subtitling on Netflix was many times inaccurate and/or did not capture the Chinese meaning behind what was said. So those watching with subtitles may be cheated of some of the story or what the character was trying to convey in a scene.

Oh what could have been but was not
I completely and totally enjoyed this drama the first half of the drama, but after ep 18 the drama just went downhill for me, the plot and acting in the drama that started out so strong just went downhill, it was astonishing how bad it got especially in the acting department after ep18.I am not surprised the rating keeps dropping because a drama that could have really been so great was butchered half way in.
Overall it was an ok watch but it’s not something I would rewatch.

Another drama of Zhao Lu Si & Liu Yu Ning, of course here I come...Story about a girl named Duan Wu (DW), that born as a slave in a brutal pearl farm. At the farm, every person must be able to swim to get the pearl in the ocean. If they can't the man will get harsh punishment and then sold to another place, while a woman will be as 'child factory'.
One day, DW meets merchant Yan Zi Jing (ZJ) and noble Zhang Jin Ran (JR) on the auction day. On that day too she's finally been able to escape from the farm, while sacrificing her mother. Before her death, DW's mother give DW a blood pearl and asked her to find her father relying on that blood pearl. One thing lead to another, in the end DW boarding ZJ's ship.
With success in her mind, DW try everything to gain ZJ trust. Slowly but sure, ZJ see DW potential and finally put her in his important plan. So, slowly but sure DW climbing the 'stairs' in ZJ's ship & of course their relationship also slowly deepen & grow into something more.
DW also find her connection to ZJ not as simple as she's first taught, DW connection to ZJ is go beyond to their parents. DW also learn the identity of ZJ not as simple as merchant, but it's more complicated than the eye meet. So, together DW & ZJ try to uncovering secrets about their family past.
When they think everything go smooth with their plan, something happen to break DW & ZJ apart. DW thinking ZJ betray her & even try to kill her. So, DW end up go to new place & renamed herself as Su Mu Zhe, and starts her own business. But of course slowly, DW misunderstanding for ZJ will wipe clean & they'll continue their relationship with each other.
At this new place, trouble seem unwilling to let DW go. DW whose been pioneer to inspiring women to take control of their destinies, meet trouble in the hands of old fold who's reluctant to lose to the woman. So, they're a few times make trouble for DW. But with help from friends and ZJ also JR, DW successfully avoid the trouble and thriving as a business woman. In the end, the last trouble is only the one connected with their family past. So, how will DW & ZJ successfully going through all the trouble...?
That's pretty much the story without giving anymore spoiler. Now what I like and don't.
What I like:
+ Zhao Lu Si & Liu Yu Ning at my screen. Haha... Whatever people said about them, for me their quite a match for each other.
+ Zhang Jin Ran is a really gentlemen till the end
+ Cui Shi Jiu (SJ). This woman is so interesting one way or another.
+ Zheng Zhi Heng (ZH). I love how he genuinely love SJ.
Overall this quite good drama, but surely forgettable & have some holes. Below I'll write the holes that I notice, but that's also mean SPOILER ALERT!!! Read it at ur own risk.
==================================================
SPOILER ALERT!!!
==================================================
I feel the plot sometimes like jumping from scene to scene. It's like something supposed to be there but they cut it in the final edit.
- The attack that ZJ & JR experience. What the heck what's that... It's like one moment they ready to attack the next moment it's them who's under attack. Of course later is feel more clear after we find out about who's the betrayal. But still it's a little bit weird, feel something missing.
- The crazy and important cause that make ZJ's family assassinated. Or it's just me that really not take the grab of it...
- The amazing JR. Haha... JR a few time ambush his enemy by hand behind the scene. Haha... I don't know other word to put it, that's how I feel it. Like when he arrest ZH. Oh come on.... That's clearly lazy writing there. I hope they show us more like investigation or stalking or anything that indicate Zhang family is on the radar.
- The way DW been capture & the blood pearl suddenly be remembered again after been forgotten for half of drama.
I already a little bit forget some of it, gonna fill it later when I remember then... Haha...

Show isn't super bad overall, mainly came to watch this because of the second collab of Zhao Lusi and Liu Yuning. Their acting and chemistry in the show was really sweet and good. When watching their first collab, I really wanted to see a drama mainly focusing on them two as the lead and this show went pretty well. The acting was superb on both sides. I'm glad to see Zhao Lusi taking on different roles. She is a really good actress as she's been taking very different roles for the past 2-3 years. This character is probably one of my favorites that she has played so far. She's very wise and strange. She does things differently and you can never expect her next move. I loved watching her character development throughout the show, and I love how she also knows a thing or two about martial arts so she can defend herself. I watched a few Liu Yuning dramas, and Idk what to really say. He's been playing kind of the same roles in most of the dramas I've seen him in, but his acting is still pretty good.
there are some plots in the story that make me really frustrated, and this entire series is honestly just trying to find out who the real mastermind behind everything is, so it's like a journey. There are some other characters that make the show even more enjoyable.
My only issue with this show is everything that happens on ep 18. I've never read the book, so idk who to blame it on. In most dramas I've watched something always happens to one of the main leads. (SPOILER) I thought it was really dumb for Duan Wu to just think that Yan Zijing wanted to kill her, I also understand that it might have been difficult for her at that time, but why would Yan Zijing want to kill her for no reason, and right after the two were in a really good relationship. Sometimes the author just needs to think about all perspectives.

Unveiling Emotions: The Story of Pearl Girl Hooks You from the Start!
I’ve been eagerly anticipating The Story of Pearl Girl, and it was absolutely worth the wait! From the very first episodes, the show delivers phenomenal scenes that are both gripping and beautifully crafted. Zhao Lusi’s performance is remarkable—her emotional intensity in the scene where she flees with Shrimp had me in tears. The entire cast is doing a fantastic job, and each character is interesting and well-developed.Initially, I planned to wait until all episodes were released to binge-watch it in one go, but the storyline was too captivating to resist starting early. Duan Wu’s character, in particular, stands out as incredibly inspiring, and I’m excited to see how her journey continues. I’ll be adding another review once the story is complete, but for now, I’m eagerly looking forward to each new episode!

Beyond Excellent
I'm super amazed by this amazing productions. From the casts, plot, cinematography, visual, costumes and music are all top notch. I have watched till episode 10 so far and I must say it exceeded my expectations. I believe that the teams truly deserved all the recognitions and success for this excellent drama. I'm so so excited for the upcoming episodes and yes! we are left with 30 episodes. Let's enjoy the rollercoaster and embrace the adventure and love that has yet to be revealed💜Cet avis était-il utile?
High potential to No potential
After the back to back hits, Lusi has emerged to be an all rounder actress. Yes I admire how she can pull off any role, while I'm also aware that this couldn't have been possible without choosing the right scripts that showcased her talent. At first I was really excited for this drama and was curious to see what she was bringing this time but only to be disappointed soon.1. Initial episodes were good and brought a lot of curiosity about what's gonna happen next. The suffering was hard to watch so I was expecting the revenge would be a lot more cruel.. this is where the disappointment started.
2. I'm a big fan of LYN, love his voice. Was expecting a lot from him but his role is just very pale and ok. I mean there's no charm in any of the characters..
3. The script itself is quite boring...too many unnecessary things are included with little to no comedy. It feels very dull and depressing somehow! There's nothing eye-catching or anything that you would be looking forward to..
To summarize, it started off well but failed to keep me constantly hooked, I might just watch it for the sake of completing it.

THIS IS SO SAD T_____________T
I really really don't get it... guys, the opening was so good and enchanting... why???? oh why??? they messed it up so bad...I really love Zhao Lu Si and Liu Yu Ning, as an actor or as a couple, both are amazing. But I don't get it, this is a A-rated Chinese drama, not some random unplanned low budget drama. I should have known, the scriptwriter who create Wrong Carriage Wrong Groom would mess it all up. The story doesn't give any logic at all, for example, when Duanwu was kidnap by the Black Violent gang in the desert, it's so crazy and illogical. I know there must be some inside man who did it, but come onnnnnnn, why they don't even care how it could happen? The writer only thought about the sad part about the poison and exaggerate it to the max to make a sad effect as mellow as possible. Pleaseeeeeeee....!!! It doesn't have to be a separation through death to make people cry their eyes out. They spent all the budget on the costumes to make the couple looks sooooooo good but forget to make a plausible story-line that interesting. And don't even start me on Duanwu's character that suddenly change after she found her lover, being the damsel in distress again and again and again, being so weak and passed out often, even though she learn some martial art before and was being so fierce and tough in the pearl farm (funny?).
Lemme say, the concept, the idea, the theme, I have no problem even when the theme is so commonly used. The concept of realism in the pearl farm was so good, so interesting, but that's it...that's all the real part, the rest of it, questionable. And even the way their romance flow from mentor to lover, was not smooth T_T and I decided to stop torturing myself by watching it anymore. The story bored me to death, that's insane, coz it was Zhao Lu Si and even Liu Yu Ning, even their smile and chemistry can't even help. Yet, here I am imagining to have lived in a vicious pearl farm my whole life or live as a kid to be abused and torture by the Black gang leader, what could be the logical way to describe my character or even my looks??? First of all, I would at least have definite visible scars, or a bit dark skin by all the heinous variable conditions life as a kid. Secondly, I would be very skeptic and tough and cold or even unsympathetic to the people around me, and it is not gonna be easy to change even though I am in love. The main CP's life was so rough, but I did not even see the effects of it after episode 10, they seem so normal to me (having the childhood from normal family).
Ohhh, there is one more problem, if Yan Zi Jing's character to be so calculating and smart, how could they plan to attack the nest of a vicious giant gang without a very precise plan from the get go? I really don't get it, how could someone write such inconsistent drama? I will have no problem with the absurd story-line if it was a B-rated Cdrama, but this is a big budget and proper drama waited by so many viewers only to be crush by poor selection plots. How they film such drama without even use their logic in the story when they read the script? huhuhuhuhu T_________T
This is so sad

Watchable but not impressive drama
I had high expectations for this drama because i like Liu Yu Ning and Zhao Lu Si and this time is their 2nd collaboration . But it's too dragging and boring. So i dropped at Ep18. Their acting is okay but not much impressive. Production quality is not bad. I like costumes of this drama. I might restart to watch again later but not now. There're many interesting dramas than this.Cet avis était-il utile?

freedom
i'm totally hooked on this drama! the plot twists in the first few episodes were unexpected and the story just keeps getting better and better.for the acting, Lusi has consistently proven her talent in previous works, so i have no doubt about her abilities. however, the scene where her character was dragged and assaulted was deeply disturbing. i couldn’t bring myself to watch that part. not only Lusi but also the other main actors have demonstrated why they are well-suited for their roles.
the opening song is nice, but i usually skip it 'cause i'm too excited to see what happens next. the production quality is top-notch. the underwater scenes were just chef's kiss.
we're taking a break from the cute and happy Lusi and welcoming back the
dramatic Lusi (my favorite genre of her). i can't wait to see what happens in the next episodes!

The Journey of Growth: Forged by Fires, Nurtured by Wisdom
Watching Story of the Pear Girl is an inspiring and thought-provoking experience, one that resonates deeply with me because of the heartfelt journey of its female lead and the profound mentorship that shapes her path. The drama beautifully depicts her evolution from a lowly slave to a smart trader through the guidance of two contrasting mentors, each embodying a distinct approach to nurturing her growth. One mentor (first male lead) embodies the belief that true strength comes from facing fires and life’s challenges directly, allowing her to stumble, experience pain, and learn through her own trials and failures. This “sink or swim” approach, though tough and sometimes unforgiving, empowers her to develop courage, independence, resilience, and a resourceful spirit that only hard-earned experiences can forge. It speaks to the notion that growth often comes from stepping into the unknown, and embracing mistakes and failures, no matter how daunting.
In contrast, her other mentor (second male lead) embraces a gentler, more protective approach, stepping in to shield her from potential dangers and pitfalls. This approach may creates a safety net, ensuring she feels secure and supported. However, it raises questions about whether sheltering someone too much can keep them from self-discovery, fully realizing their potential, and strength. It could also stifling independence and resilience that is only forged through struggle.
The interplay between these two approaches weaves a powerful narrative that goes beyond simple storyline. It delves into the essence of personal growth—how the paths we take and the guidance we receive can shape not only who we are but who we become. It is a mirror to our own lives and choices, reminding us that growth can be found in both the storms we brave and the hands that hold us steady, and how both are essential in the journey of becoming one’s best self.
