One of this winter's disappointments

For most of the episodes, “Flex x Cop” seemed to me quite an average drama. The only thing that kept me watching was Ahn Bo Hyun.

The first eight episodes can simply be thrown out. It provides neither revelation of characters, nor a foundation for the future. Just a series of investigation of criminal cases, where the main character is somehow involved, thanks to his connections and knowledge of Korean “high society”. There is an attempt to demonstrate the confrontation between the 'world of ordinary people' and the 'world of chaebols' with a bit of humor, but instead of humor, I saw the most disgusting attitude of Jin Yi Soo’s (Ahn Bo Hyun) new colleagues towards the newcomer. Lee Kang Hyun (Park Ji Hyun) and her team demonstrated all the disgusting sides of human nature. Contempt and outright trolling are what Jin Yi Soo faces.

Park Ji Hyun re-united with Ahn Bo Hyun again after Yumi's Cells, where her character was just as nasty towards Ahn Bo Hyun's character, so nothing has changed here for me. Of course, by the end of the drama, Lee Kang Hyun is shown differently: a dedicated police officer who seeks to clear the name of her father, who was unfairly accused of bribery. But I couldn't warm up to her, so I'm really glad that the creators did not develop the romantic line between Kang Hyun and Yi Soo. I’m terrified to think that I have to deal with this in the second season, which has already been announced.

Ahn Bo Hyun himself did not play anything outstanding in “Flex x Cop”. As he himself said in an interview, his task was to portray a 'big child': spoiled, but very kind, despite the fact that he lost his mother and never had a normal family after that. Bo Hyun handled this well, but nothing more. Unfortunately, this is his second drama in a row, where they did not work with him at all as an actor, using only his appearance. But at least Jin Yi Soo is nothing like Moon Seo Ha in “See You in My 19th Life.”

Who I really liked in the drama was Lee Kang Hyun's father - Lee Hyung Joong (Kwon Hae Hyo) and Yoon Ji Won (Jung Ga Hee). Kwon Hae Hyo was very convincing as the experienced police chief and loving father, and Jung Ga Hee portrayed the charming forensic scientist who greatly embarrassed and awed one of Lee Kang Hyun's subordinates. Jang Hyun Sung was also good as Jin Yi Soo's father, but he generally does well secondary characters.

As for the main intrigue, I would say that the creators managed to keep it almost until the end (but I’m not generally known for “buying out” an idea in the early stages) - here we can only praise the screenwriter Kim Ba Da. By the way, she also created the script for the drama “My Name,” in which I really like Ahn Bo Hyun.

Do I recommend the drama? No. Well, only if you watch the first episode, and then skip to the eighth - you still won’t miss anything important. Will I watch the second season? Yes, because Ahn Bo Hyun is a rare guest on screens.

Simply Perfect

This drama has everything you need to keep you glued to your seat. I enjoyed every single episode as it gives you enough scenes to cry, laugh, get excited, and feel intrigued. The cast and the stories/police cases perfectly fit, like an ensemble moving naturally just like life as it goes on, there was never a dull moment. Entertaining yet Ahn Bohyun's personal crisis cuts through your heart that you tear up ugly just like I did. The show's producers signified that a second season is coming soon and that would be something to look forward to. Give it a watch, I'm sure you'll enjoy it just as much as I did.

Solid Action/Crime Drama that captivates you from beginning to End

If you are thinking of watching this then please do! It is a solid watch with lots of different cases. A lot of 16 episodes kdrama seem to lose its steam around ep 10-12 but this one keeps the momentum the whole way through. The character growth between all the main characters was also very good to see.

Recommend!

Flex X Cop: Redefining Detective Dramas with a Perfect Blend of Action, Comedy, and Intrigue in 2024

"Flex X Cop" shines as a beacon in the vast sea of detective K-dramas, setting a new benchmark with its rich tapestry of intrigue and unexpected plot twists that keep viewers on the edge of their seats. This drama masterfully intertwines action, comedy, and a touch of romance, capturing the essence of a swag-filled narrative that's as engaging as it is fast-paced. The central duo, comprising the affluent yet immature chaebol Jin Isoo and the tough-as-nails detective Lee Ganghyun, brings a dynamic chemistry that's both entertaining and poignant. Their journey from conflicting ideologies to collaborative partners in crime-solving is depicted with a finesse that speaks volumes of their evolving relationship, against the backdrop of high-stakes criminal investigation.

Ahn Bo-hyun's portrayal of Jin Isoo is nothing short of captivating, embodying the charm and complexity of his character with a performance that's as nuanced as it is powerful. Park Ji-hyun, as Lee Ganghyun, matches him step for step, delivering a performance that's both strong and compelling. Together, they navigate the murky waters of crime and justice, with each episode unfolding new layers of their characters and the intricate plot that binds them. The screenplay, rich in depth and character development, is a testament to the stellar writing that drives the narrative forward, making "Flex X Cop" not just a show but an experience.

The drama also delves into the darker recesses of societal themes, exploring the corrupting influence of power and the uphill battle for justice in a world skewed in favor of the wealthy. Despite its forays into these grim realities, "Flex X Cop" maintains a light-hearted tone, masterfully balancing the gravity of its themes with the levity of its comedic elements. This delicate balance is one of the show's greatest strengths, making it a compelling watch for those who seek both entertainment and substance in their viewing choices.

In summary, "Flex X Cop" is an exquisitely crafted drama that stands out not just for its thrilling plot and complex characters, but also for its insightful commentary on society. It's a show that entertains, challenges, and delights in equal measure, making it a must-watch for fans of the genre and newcomers alike. With its blend of humor, action, and drama, it's a K-drama that truly has it all, setting a high bar for future entries in the genre.

Refreshing and emotional

Very refreshing! I normally watch romance so I wasn't initially gonna watch this but when I started it was so addictive. Its hard to pinpoint exactly why it was well done but here are a few things: character development of the ML and FL relationship was smooth and the conflict didnt last long (they have great chemistry), no one is made purely evil to fit the villian they all have their reasons, a fresh take on detective series, ML is a fun character but with realistic emotions, even tho it has a closed ending it proves how gud it was that people want a season 2 based on the characters, lastly I barely finish dramas to the 16th epsiode so I'm telling u this is special, the episodes flew by.
The only slight criticism I would give it would be the editing initially can be a bit choppy on scenes but it improves.
Would seriously recommend it!

Good Enough

Korean Drama '' Flex x Cop '' is a remake of the Russian series '' Silver Spoon '', with a Korean twist of course.

The drama offers a lot of cases that the investigation team is called to solve, in their delightfully whimsical way. That way the main plot doesn't get stuffy, and the drama does indeed focus on the police enforcement, and doesn't simply give a few at the start only to excite the audience and then try to keep things interesting with unnecessary melodrama for the second half.

The main mystery case was also interesting and twisty and enhanced the drama of the characters more.

The characters, moreover, where all interesting and had smooth chemistry.

The performances, therefore, were all great and everyone did a great job with their characters.

So, overall, nine out of ten.

Is team-mance a word?

Well, if it's not, it should be. Or at least after season 1 of "Flex X Cop" it should be.

It's easy to find grievances here. They tend to be very upfront. First, the name is dumb. The marketing poster is a mess. The theme song is so cheap and grating. The whole opening credit sequence actually is awful. And the first impression that Ahn Bo Hyun makes as Jin Yi Soo is [grimacing emoji]. It's such a caricature of a shallow, arrogant, entitled rich brat that is falls flat. And speaking of flat, Jang Hyun Sung as the conglomerate chairman just quite can't deliver the gravitas of that role and never seems like the deeply emotionally torn person that the character he's portraying is meant to be.

Oh? And the name. THE NAME. Why is it Flex? Why is there an X? Did the producers just pull random words and letters out of a bag to determine the name? It's just so dumb.

But the heart of the show is pure 24 karat gold. Kim Shin Bi and Kang Sang Jun don't get loads of lines but their characters, the young somewhat naive and excitable one and not quite as young hard-nosed and stern one, are the perfect complements to each other and to the lead characters. Park Ji Hyun is flat out strong as Kang Hyun. Her character is the violent crime team leader and she's almost all business all the time. In the moments when she's not in work mode, she's still tough and direct and no nonsense. Even in the solitary scene where she is comforting Yi Soo, it's not explicitly tender or sweet.

And the whole production works because Ahn Bo Hyun is playing Yi Soo. Despite the first impression, once this actor and character have settled in to this complex role, the combination flat out slays. Beneath the couture wardrobe and expensive cars and luxury watches, is a man that is deeply broken and intensely driven and fairly insightful with just enough self-awareness. Although it's probably not a serious enough role to warrant award consideration, it's a role tailor made for Ahn Bo Hyun's sheer physical size and his rare ability to alternate between blazing cockiness and tender vulnerability.

There's some nicely written mysteries for the violent crime team to solve early on as Yi Soo works his way in to a role within the team. Some are more credible but the one that is the least believable somewhat validates itself at the end with a dramatic scene between Yi Soo and Kang Hyun. Eventually, the overall arc meanders back to Yi Soo's personal backstory and conglomerate family and the violent crime team fades somewhat to the background. While it's still an entertaining arc, when the focus spotlights Yi Soo alone, the magic of the chemistry between the four team members is lost.

Fortunately, while much of the last few episodes is entangled with Yi Soo's family shenanigans, the final episode balances things back with a sensational, touching montage, a not-so-unexpected twist and setting up what will hopefully be a season two that continues this team-mance (someone please contact Merriam Webster and have this added immediately) at the same level of excellence.

So while the opening credits should be skipped highly recommend just about everything else.

A complete ingredient drama

I never expect that I would love this drama. I can say that it was nicely done the story is quiet promoting. Every episode is more promising and the story gets more better.
Isoo belongs to rich family and become famous because he is one of the son in Hansu Group and hits the social media in storm because of the extreme sports he has done.
One day he has chosen to become a cop because he has once become a private detective using his wealth to capture bad guys without him knowing that he will become a real detective once he has appointed.
He become dedicated by it and of course he is using his wealth and charm by it, its one of the reason why it is funny.
One day as he was solving a case he bumped into the old case of the death of his mother. It is painful and believed who did it. Although he catch the real culprit a little too late but he still achieved the justice that he needed.

Typical but Refreshing plot

First of all The Casting of this drama was amazing, Ahn Bo hyun as the rich, spoilt yet kind brat was the best thing you’ll get to watch.
I know the story is very typical classic crime/action comic drama plot and I am sure like me everyone will have correctly guessed the main culprit at the very beginning of the drama but guess what its still an enjoyable drama.
When I was watching the second week I wasn't sure if the wanted to continue if the plot hadn't evolved. And yes, thankfully the plot and minor character developments were already visible.
And from 5th episode onwards, there was no turning back, the drama really covered very interesting criminal cases which made each ep exciting.
I was gonna give an 8.5 coz I think they could've done better in the 1st 4 eps BUT I'm giving this drama story a solid 9 just for how beautiful the character developments were.
Overall its a VERY typical kdrama plot but due to different cases covered and how mischievous Ahn Bohyun acted, this drama became really Refreshing.

Interesting mix of genre

Flex X Cop is a drama that has an interesting mix of crime, action and comedy.

The story plot focus on Kang Ha Police Station's Team 1 (consisting of FL Lee Kang Hyun, Park Joon Young, Choi Kyung Jin and the new addition chaebol ML Jin Yisoo) solving a series of crimes together. Yisoo, despite being a newly appointed detective, tried his best to solve crimes with the rest of the Team 1 using his connections and power as a Chaebol.

What I enjoyed about this drama was how some of the crime cases were cleverly weaved together as the stepping stone for the subsequent episodes. There are also plot twists within the drama, which makes Flex X Cop interesting to watch. I also liked how the drama show both the FL and ML personal backstory.

Acting wise, I personally enjoyed the synergy between the FL (Park Ji Hyun) and ML (Ahn Bo Hyun) and their skills were great.

I am excited to see what Flex X Cop 2 would be able to showcase in the future.

A Thrilling Blend of Action, Mystery, and Character-Driven Drama

Flex X Cop quickly became one of my favorite K-dramas of 2024. The story hooked me from the beginning, focusing on Jin Yi Soo, a chaebol who unexpectedly joins the police force. Each episode brought new cases and developments, ensuring there was never a dull moment. I loved how the show balanced its fast-paced narrative with deeper emotional moments.
Ahn Bo Hyun's portrayal of Jin Yi Soo was phenomenal. He managed to capture the essence of a privileged chaebol transitioning into a competent and dedicated police officer. His character's growth throughout the series felt genuine and compelling. The chemistry between Ahn Bo Hyun and Park Ji Hyun, who plays the female lead, was another highlight. Their evolving relationship from initial disdain to mutual respect and partnership added a rich layer to the story without relying on romance, which I found refreshing.
The direction and cinematography were also top-notch. The action scenes were exciting and well-executed, and the emotional scenes were handled with sensitivity, making the show visually and emotionally engaging. I appreciated the balance of light-hearted and serious moments, which kept the tone fresh and engaging throughout the series.
The soundtrack complemented the drama perfectly, enhancing the atmosphere without overpowering the scenes. Although the music wasn't the standout element for me, it definitely supported the overall experience and helped maintain the show's tone.
What impressed me most was the show's ability to stay unpredictable. Each episode brought something new and exciting, and the plot twists kept me on the edge of my seat. The character development was thorough, and each supporting character had their own story, which added depth to the narrative.

Overall, Flex X Cop is a must-watch. It's a perfect blend of action, mystery, and character-driven storytelling. I found myself eagerly anticipating each episode, and now I'm hoping for a second season to see more of these characters and their stories. If you're a fan of K-dramas that offer a bit of everything; action, humor, emotional depth. This series is definitely worth your time.

A lightweight thriller+action drama

If you are looking for a thriller but with less messy/bloody scence but with a touch of humour than go for it.

Particularly, It isn't a thriller drama but for a beginner it is a good option.......Even if you are not a beginner and want relief from mind boggling investigation ,mysterious plot and anxiety you can consider watching it.

The drama is lightweighted with a touch of mystery, action, thrill and comedy...........may get vibe of Batman or rich man getting in trouble on purpose for fun because why not.

You don't have to rack your mind as the story unfolds all your doubts will be solved.

Yes, it is a good watch.
