Strangely, this is a drama that spoils itself with a premonition of tragedy.

I love the casts for FL and ML. I love the visuals of this drama. I love the unique purple-dark theme. I love how the prologue is delivered in cartoonish style. But I can't stand how the story is told. Evaluating the story from the first five episodes alone may be unfair. But we have gotten these so far, and I am considering dropping this drama to save my sanity. These are my problems:

CONFUSION AND WORRY. I got the first impression of this drama from its trailer. I love the trailer. It looks fun and comedic. The love story seems promising, even though it involves cliches. But the real story is angsty and vengeful. The opening serves us with conflict and killing scenes, and I am like, "What?!" Is it just another drama with a sad, tragic ending? What is the point of spoiling us with such an opening? Watching this drama worries me so much. Will my emotional investment, time, and money pay off? I am afraid we will get a sad ending served tragically.

FL IS STUPID AND MAKES NO SENSE. I love Bai Lu, but not her character this time (Bai Shou). I love the child actress playing little Bai Shuo, but not how Bai Lu portrays the adult Bai Shuo. When little Bai Shuo aspired to practice immortality and to repay someone's kindness, I admired her for her maturity. This girl has a purpose. But as she grew up, this aspiration ironically became a childish obsession, making her a laughing stock. I don't know in what world she lives in. But why does it seem like the human species is clueless and doesn't believe in divine beings/ immortals? Is it a problem with the worldbuilding? Or is it the problem with the character building? After 10 years had passed, she did not even learn other things that were useful for daily life or to make her a more graceful and complex woman. She is too one-dimensional, lacks virtues, and her only power source comes accidentally from a stone, not a thing she acquires through work and hardship. And when her purpose changed into revenge and she blamed everyone but herself for the tragedy befallen her city and her father, it was like a decline, a negative development. This girl lacks insight into how everything started with her stupidity.

LACK OF CONNECTION BETWEEN FL AND ML. I don't like how this drama showed more physical violence between FL and ML in the opening episodes rather than a subtle, heartfelt connection and realization. The ML keeps threatening her, but it is merely words rather than actions. Watching this particular scene, I am like, "Go kill her if you're a ruthless demon, as your folks always talk about you!" And the FL keeps returning to him and bargaining things. "If you want the stone, just kill her and get the stone back. Why do you have to ask who she is?" It is a very unnecessary curiosity. And this curiosity is baseless. "Bai Shuo gives you nothing that moves your heart, and there is no meaningful interaction between you two so far, and you two were complete strangers. Why are you suddenly curious?" When the connection between two characters is missing, no need to ask about their chemistry.

IT IS SO DRAGGY. I don't know what is in the director's mind, dedicating 5 episodes (around 200 minutes!) just to set the foundation and introduce what the story will be. I wish this drama to have Blossom's (2024) effectiveness that can do the introduction neatly in just 2 episodes and quickly bring us to the main story without beating around the bush. The story is polluted with a lot of inner monologues, fillers, and not funny bickering. Too much telling, lacking meaningful actions. The transition of events is too slow, even when the city is attacked and the situation is so dire. When the story reaches its peak moment, the pace should keep up with the sense of urgency. But why does it turn out to be like an everyday event?

I respect fans of this drama. I share your love for certain things in this drama. But, in my eyes, there are more problems and they diminish my enjoyment. If you like this drama, I hope you have a good experience. It is just not my cup of tea.

The acting is so over the top and stiff that it feels like the cast is reading from a script instead of bringing their characters to life. The cinematography is no better every shot is either too dark or too bright, with no sense of artistic direction, making it feel more like a soap opera than a grand historical epic. The CGI is laughably bad I’ve seen more convincing special effects in a 90s video game. And don't even get me started on the casting it's painfully obvious that the actors are way too old for their roles, which completely ruins the believability of the story. Instead of feeling immersed in a historical world, it’s like watching a group of middle-aged people trying to play pretend. This drama fails on every level. Well i don't know if it will be good in the future episode i will still continue to watch this though this was just my opinion no offense to anyone.

A conflicting genre tried to mix Dark and white ended up in meh! ...

Moonlight mystique as the name suggests the drama is asthetic and elegant themed ...only if they could direct it correctly and a proper production team with good camara-editing skills had done it, it could have been one of the best Xianxia ever !
Also, characters have good backgrounds to make them complex but somehow they ended up being one dimensional !
A clever yet arrogant female lead
A self made demon lord who suddenly became fool in love...
A immortal 2nd male lead who is annoying as hell
A demon 2nd fl who is evil but somehow survives everytime someone tries to kill her(I call this kind of character as cockroach character in donghua lol 😂)...
Problems ---
1)**Male lead**: I don't understand his character....not because he's complex but you can't describe if he's red flag , green flag or white flag ....
When fl's city destroyed, her father was dying he gave her ghost grass that can cause slaughter in the city . He wanted to see if fl becomes evil and consume ghost flower in exchange for human lives . He didn't seemed a kind character he wanted to kill her , didn't help her other than bring her to her father to gather the emotion . Then he suddenly fall in love with her? Why ? As a bossy demon lord who lives his life for revenge and power suddenly fall in love with a human girl ...like "you are the first girl treat me this way " trop ...then suddenly it reveals he was always a kind demon who tries to save others !
ARP is really good in portrayal of bubbly characters are but for serious character he doesn't gives the aura of a bossy character well...
2) **the female lead** : I absolutely love bold and clever female characters but not arrogant ones . I am a Fan of Bai Lu and her acting is spectacular. but Character Bai Shuo has Zero survival instincts . Leave her in Squid game or Alice in borderland kind of worlds she will be the first one to die . She is bold but she doesn't think before she acts . If Fan Yue was not kind imagine how her situation may have become! She orders and shows her feelings directly. Yes I love character growth but Bai Shuo's character doesn't give justice to her complex background....
3) **camara works ** -- camara works is worst here . I don't know the budget but it feels too flashy like short cdramas that only focused in looks ....the set looking cheap too ....the demon lords only have 1 or 2 employees and immortal realm looking like begger sect !
4) **story** -- story wise it's not bad . But the direction already spoiled us on what gonna happen next ! They could have add good amount of suspense and cliff hangers ...but sadly it doesn't makes you eager to know what happens next !
It's neither gives the seriousness of Till the end of moon nor gives the comedic relief like love you seven times or love between fairy and devil ....
They tried to mix both and caused confusion..
I don't understand why they have to explain us what the characters are like ... telling us directly Fan Yue is a kind demon , 2nd lead is immortal yet has demonic obsession...
There are things that I liked as well --
1) different approach to show a demon male lead --a down to earth demon male lead who trusts his subordinates and cares for his girl...
2) dynamic between 2nd ml and 2nd fl is interesting.
3) Of course bailu acting and visuals of ARP is really good and the angsty ost is good as well..
It's not the worst xianxia ..it just didn't meet my expectations !...
