They finally let Xiaxia make a decision for himself and start the life he wants to live. The road he walks won't be smooth, and life outside the village will be hard on him, but he won't learn how to survive and know what he wants to do unless he figures it out by himself. The people in the village see Zhiyao as a reliable figure. If Zhiyao wasn't the one who convinced his mother to let Xiaxia decide for himself, I doubt she'll be persuaded to let him go.
