Some things in life can't be bought

PLOT - I love the plot. A boy that gets his hands on a magical spoon that allows him to switch lives? That’s not gonna go wrong at all. This is going the way I pictured and yet not at the same time. The first ep will def hook you as it did for me and is great to binge.

CHARACTERS - Sungjae surprised me in this. This is my second drama with him(first was Mystic Pop Up Bar). He’s def one of the better idol actors I’ve seen and although isn't perfect he really suits this role. Juhee is nice but doesn’t really stand out as she seems too one-dimensional. Yeo Jin is very intriguing and conjures up more questions about her character as the show continues. Not really sure how to feel about her motivations but I won’t get into that cause I don’t wanna spoil. Taeyong is ok, but his attitude between all the switching is interesting. Taeyong’s father is someone who doesn’t care for things like love and instead finds fulfillment in the things that money brings him.

CONCLUSION - I think the moral of the story is simple and that is money isn’t everything. The protagonist’s dilemma is that he can live a better life with money but he realizes rather quickly the new problems that pursue in his newfound wealth. I do believe he loves his family, but his love of money begins to overcome him and it may end up costing him something he can’t buy back. Each time he chooses to trade lives with Taeyong, that is more time spent away from his family and the one person who loves him despite his situation--Juhee. Although money is important and can change one’s life, it would be a disservice to tell this type of story without exploring the downsides with wealth. If you're poor, you can be happy, but all you'll do is survive and nothing more. Only money for food and possibly shelter — no real luxuries.
You might not be happy if you are wealthy but you could travel far, make friends in high places, and be able to afford things that the average person can only dream of. However people around you will only think about you because of what you have, your trust in others may not be great, and you may even lose interest in spending money altogether(which is what Taeyong did). I’m not saying that being poor is necessarily “better” as every possible path in life has its pros and cons. But the warm unconditional love of family is a luxury that some people desperately need but don’t have. If you have everything but love the things you have hold no real value. Real love is a currency that can’t be exchanged.

I waited until this drama finished airing before I started watching it -- best decision of my life. I can't imagine waiting a week to watch each new episode. Anyone who watched this while it was airing has my respect - you are a stronger breed than I am lol.

This drama is pure perfection in terms of its story, characters, pacing, twists, acting, and music. If you haven't watched it yet, do yourself a favor and avoid spoilers. There are so many twists in this story that I was constantly surprised and amazed. I loved every minute of it. Check out the synopsis and trailer to see if this is the type of story you'd be interested in, and go into this with as blank a slate as possible.

The ending tied everything up beautifully, considering the number of characters and their significance to the story. I'm extremely happy with it. It's one of those endings that leaves you feeling completely satisfied and couldn't be happier.

Body Swaping Inferno

Golden Spoon is one of those dramas that makes my blood boil. The firsts episodes seem intriguing and the premisse had potencial in the hands of a good writter, body swaping within the contex of social mobility.
But, it all came downhill very quickly. I'm gone be generic from this point to avoid controversy. First the acting. I can take one or two fresh face "acting" idols if the story is good enough, but so many at the same time and staring at each other with that blank expressions, like a herd of deer caught in headlights, is a big red flag for me. Even the senior cast, with some very respectable actors and actress, went in overdrive mode and complete "soapy" overacting.
The other red flag for me is the story development wich went full beserk trying to artificially provoke cliffhangers with absurd plot twists. I only remember at some point of the show i didn't even knew anymore who is in what body and didn'teven care, so i dropped it to spare the life of my fast foward button.

My spoon is too big

This was a fresh and exciting spin on the monkey's paw concept. It was full of clever plot twists, intense personal and familial drama, and of course lots of social commentary on how being poor and being obscenely wealthy can both wreck your life in certain ways. It was interesting to see what did and didn't change about the various golden spoon swappers' personalities after they assumed their new identities. I appreciated the moral complexity of their choices and circumstances. I do think the show struggled at times to handle the ramifications of big time jump that kicked off the second half of the drama. The characters didn't always feel like 10 years had actually transpired in their lives. The love lines and potential love triangles were conceptually interesting but fell flat in execution, there was not one ounce of chemistry between any of the potential romantic pairings.

Insano

A história é original, com muito potencial, interessante e viciante. Porém tem uns furos, algumas coisas desnecessárias e tu passa muita raiva assistindo. Metade dos personagens não prestam e a outra metade é chata haha. Meus personagens favoritos foram o Munki e a Yujin. Demorei pra terminar de assistir, não porque era chato, mas porque era um tanto irritante. Finalizei o drama rindo horrores com o final que deram, até que gostei de como acabou algumas coisas. O melhor foi a reviravolta no finalzinho, isso foi empolgante:
Quando a Young Shin falou pro "Hwang Hyun Do" que o Juntae que ele o incitou a se matar é seu próprio filho. eu fiquei OMG :O
E o Seungchun que viveu por conta do outro cara que teve um minuto de tela, um minuto de burrice, o cara morreu no lugar dele eu ri muito KKKKKKK
Amei ver a atuação do Sungjae nesse drama!

Later half was slow

I remember watching the beginning of this drama and being really invested, the story was great and the twists and turns made you want to see more. However by the time it reached the middle it slowed down and watching this series became tedious. I was able to hold on until the 14th episode and then stopped caring about it and just wanted to know the ending. So I searched up the plot of episode 15 and watched episode 16 while skipping the unimportant parts so I can finally know the ending. It wasn't enjoyable or satisfying to watch the ending, I just wanted the plot ending points. I was curious about the ending and didn't care about the usual emotions that endings provoked from me; didn't care about the fond nostalgia and satisfaction that a good ending should have. Most shows (no matter what their reviews have been) has been able to evoke those feelings in me, but not this one. Do what you will with that info. I say watch half the show, to immerse and get the feelings and then just search up the plot for the rest of the half.

Despairsm

There is a constant change up in the status quo through out the series that keep up the pace of the episodes. The portrayal of the endless pit of poverty is brutal, where everyone is subjected to the fires of desperation in this morally complex and ethically ambiguous exploration and study of characters. The supernatural entity in the form of an halmoni selling magical golden spoons to people desperate enough to see her, (though Joo Hee seems to be the exception to carry out an errand for her) is no guardian angel, but rather an agent of chaos offering opportunities to sew discord and mayhem to any type of person, regardless of their intentions. All the customers receive and cast the fates that they forge for themselves and their victims. It is pretty convenient of her to forget to give out all the rules at once, so everyone only knows more if they revisit her or someone who knows informs them.

Seung Cheon gave up his family in order to satisfy his ambitions with the excuse to help them in the way that money only can but though he loves them, he loves being elevated from being poor more. Tayeong who is the unwitting victim of the non-consenting life swap chose to stay as Seung Cheon to be with the "best parents in the world" but a lot of his choice is also colored by him not retaining direct memories of his life as Tayeong which are supplanted to those of Seung Cheon's and can't even parlay the skills he retains into a way out of poverty until the far future where it's also because of the years of monetary help set up by Seung Cheon for their parents to have a business and residence with cheap rent.

I like how the show kept it ambiguous as to whether Tayeong killed Joo Hee's father or not because although he held on to Seung Cheon's hands until the latter slipped into the river, but he did leave him for dead before changing his mind mid being driven away by his driver Moon Gi. Tayeong could have had a moment of weakness or even a mere accident that he had forgotten. I never thought he was the school shooter though, which turns out to be his step uncle Jun Tae who is Yo Han's biological son. It's strange that Yo Han/ new Hyeon Do didn't do the math and figure out that one at all though he knew that Jun Tae is his second wife Sun Hye's son and not brother. Her never acknowledging Jun Tae as his mother even when he already knows the truth was pretty cruel though he's a murderous sociopath.

There is a loud omission to how Joo Hee survived with just a few bills in her pocket. She is an idealistic, naive heiress who worked at a convenience store for fun and believed that money is not important until all she had to inherit was her murdered father's debts and 500,000 in leftover slush funds that her selfish brothers gave her that was quickly stolen from her and she kept looking for in the 10 years time skip when she already has her own apartment and is employed full time as a journalist. What did she do for money and housing as a high school senior and college student? Did Seung Cheon secretly help her from afar as well? She also doesn't really challenge Seung Cheon on ethics of his choices which seemed like she was a character that was set up to do. Even though she gives some lip service to Yu Jin, insisting Seung Cheon will go back to his own life.

In the end, Seung Cheon cannot escape the cycle of greed that the golden spoon enables, barely escaping death when the gardener switches lives with him and dies in his stead. He no longer has his own memories and becomes a different person until Joo Hee found him. She continues to love him for the person he was when they first met, ignoring the greedy, selfish person he became that throws friends under the bus, rationalizing everything along the way. Seung Cheon's mother and sister should have been able to know the truth as well and make their own decisions as to how they feel about his and Tayeong's choices. He deserves a thrashing by his sister for sure. His father who always felt guilty for not being able to monetarily support his family and apologetic for being Seung Cheon's father still felt rightful anger at Seung Cheon for abandoning his identity to be a rich kid with different parents though in the end accepted his decision that Tayeong chooses to be his son and his birth son doesn't.

It's fun that both of the To My Star leads had supporting roles in this show as the bully Jang Goon and the driver Moon Ki. They both make it to the end with Jang Goon as Yu Jin's husband and Moon Ki as Seung Ah's husband who watches along with the rest of the family of Tayeong's rise as an successful webtoon author writing about The Golden Spoon, which seems awfully dangerous to give an how to guide for a very real supernatural object that the granny entity continues to sling to anyone willing to ditch their parents and steal someone else's life.

Character/ relationship development and plot twists

I really enjoyed this drama, the best thing about this drama for me was the relationship between Seungchun and Tae Yong which really doesn't developed until the second half of the drama. This drama was kind of slow because a lot of the plot twist, relationships (non-romantic) and essentially the more interesting storylines do not come in until around episode 10.

I did not like the romance in this drama. There was a huge time jump in this drama and I don't understand how the romantic relationships between all of the characters remained the same during and after this period. The only good relationship this time created was the parent/son relationship between Tae Yong and Seungchun's parent's and I would even say a nice relationship between Seungchun and Tae Yong's 'father'. I loved Munki's relationship with Tae Yong and Seungchun, despite them both being the same person to Munki, their relationship with Munki was VERY different. Tae Yong and Munki had a brotherly relationship. (I don't watch BLs and usually don't randomly ship guys but) I started shipping Seungchun and Munki, heck they were the only 'couple' I shipped.

I preferred Yu Jin over Joo Hee. Unlike every other charecter in this drama Joo Hee was the only one who stayed persistently the SAME, no character development, nothing, she is so self-righteous to the point that it was annoying. Yu Jin made mistakes, but she changed a lot throughout this drama from being selfish and cold, to someone who actually cared about Seungchun. Joo Hee was the only character I did not like and I wish we got to see a lot more of the brotherly bond between Seungchun and Tae Yong instead of the romantic storyline between Seungchun and Joo Hee. (SPOILERS) I would have been fine with her had she just stopped after discovering how Seungchun swappeed places with Tae Yong, but then she spent the rest of the drama begging him to switch back, to be himself etc, despite the fact that Tae Yong was happy being Seungchun and Seungchun had already been Tae Yong for over 10 years, at this point he had no right to switch back.
I wish it was Yu Jin and Seungchun at the end and Tae Yong and Joo Hee, both pairs would have been perfect for each other.

I will not go into detail about the plot twists, but I feel like it was quite predictable. You see, every single person who has used the golden spoon, for some reason in this drama, have the exact same view on poverty, on how "being poor is a crime".

I liked the ending of this drama, but I wish we got Tae Ying and Seungchun's bromance instead of Yun Ji and Seungchun.

I really enjoyed this show

There is no denying the importance of money in today's society. This show allows us to imagine what life would have been had we had a chance to be born in money. It also questions us on how far are we willing to go to get this money. Are we willing to sacrifice love, family and our conscience in pursuit of it?

The show does not simply take the moral high ground and deem money as evil. Rather it argues well on both sides. We can't live without money but we also cannot live without family, love and your conscience.

Its a creative story with a good theme. I really enjoyed it. Thank you to everyone who made it possible.

Is The Golden spoon really golden?

This review will be short and precise, I think I does not have to put any sort of summary or something in it because you will find out about the story when you will watch it............

This story revolves around a golden spoon which gives us chance to swap our parents and make our life better............. now this is just the main line of the story but believe me its much more than that it represents hunger for money, pride and power.

I am still confused that whether this Golden spoon is bane or boon. Does it give you more or snatch it from you even more.

The romance plot is I think little messed up I am not gonna reveal who ended with whom. Find out yourself it will be much better and full of swings and turns.

Now the most Important Question??
Should YOU WATCH THIS DRAMA? IS THIS DRAMA WORTH GIVING YOUR TIME?
I guess yes, or kinda of if you are in fantasy stuff then straight go to the drama and start watching no more huff and puff.
But if not hen I will still recc. you to watch this drama because it's a good one keeps you entertain with their different story again this is a Webtoon based drama so it has a good plot no worries for that actors has also did remarkable job...

Does Golden Spoon become the first Korean Drama to have two Male First Leads outside of BL dramas?

In Korean Dramas specifically and writing in general, the First Male Lead is the male protagonist around whom the storyline pivots. Therefore, the Male First Lead never becomes the Male Second Lead. In addition, if you pluck out this character from the storyline you have no story. Outside of BL Korean Dramas, you get one Male First Lead usually.

The storyline for Golden Spoon is exceptional and unusual.

Golden Spoon is the story of two teen young men, one super rich and one very poor, who go to the same high school. The poor teen desperately wants to be rich, to control his life. As the story evolves, a Golden Spoon grants his wish to switch parents. In a reality-bend, he abandons his parents in his reality to become the son of the riches Chaebol. In this switch, the (unaware) natural son of the riches chaebol inherits the parents of the economically poor young student. Each boy keeps his personality identity and both are their original self, but they just live in a different reality in this switch. Reality is bent. As you can see, because of this unique storyline, neither teen can be plucked out of this story. (We are not talking about changing out an actor).

“Male First Lead” Confusion

In Golden Spoon, both boys fall for the same girl. She likes only one of the boys, but in this reality-bend, at any given time, both of our teen boys are this boy which she likes. This reality-bend in Golden Spoon leads to a Korean Drama conundrum. The First Male Lead of a story is always the protagonist about which the drama story is written. Because this story is equally about the two boys living in each others’ reality-bend, for me this makes Golden Spoon the first Korean Drama which I have seen that has two Male First Leads or Double Male First Leads and no Second Male Lead.

Fan Alert: The ending is mind-blowing.

Take-Away from the Story

Golden Spoon addresses whether all that is golden is really ideal? Should value be attached to the integrity of your soul? Is money really what makes you happy? Golden Spoon has many aspects of the Korean drama Reborn Rich. It handles the material in unique ways and may be a fresh look at an old theme, “Is the grass greener on the other side?”

Note: Golden Spoon is not a body-swap Korean Drama. Both boys are themselves, but the one with the Golden Spoon retains the knowledge of their former self and their relationships in the other bended reality. Although not knowing the life the other boy lived, each are retrofitted into that life or reality-bend. This makes for a unique prospective view on both of their lives.
