"Ending like this is another name for destiny"

I went into this drama with expectations and ideas; I'd seen "Goblin" and "Tail of the Nine-Tailed", which were good, poignant stories and for this very reason, I grappled with the storyline of "Doom at Your Service" for the first four episodes. If the expectation is for the slightly formulaic, well written story, well, "Doom" is one of those in spades but throw out this drama belonging to a standard storyline. In fact, it's so well written, so subtle, it took those first four episodes for me to understand the heart of this show. What does it mean to love, to regret, to live, and to understand that an ending is imminent in all situations?

I'll start with the second stage characters and that is Cha Joo Ik (the editor), Lee Hyun Gyu (coffee shop owner) and Na Ji Na (the author). This is a love triangle in three ways: the love of two men who are closer than brothers, and their love for the same woman. A backstory usually bores me in a drama because the words or actions from the past are usually repeated in the present. Their story unwinds logically, emotionally with their present person wearing the emotional scars of past regret. The friend who betrayed his brother, the woman who vainly searched for a boyfriend lost, the boyfriend who chose to hide rather than face pity. What unfolds is a slice of life that never preaches but displays emotions for the loss of love, of chances, of bonds broken. I've been riveted to the screen with every scene.

The deities of Doom and So Nyeo Shin also have an interesting dynamic. One is the creator and forgives, the other is the judgement and destroys and between them, there is an envy of the other's ability. Their balance and existence is born from humanity but the lack of an ending exhausts and bores Doom. He is the witness to the worst and pities the other deity's existence as she bears the burden of those sins throughout time. At episode 14, I still cannot figure out if there is compassion, affection or disdain for the other's presence

The last to be mentioned is the relationship between Doom and Tak Dong Kyung. Park Bo Young's character struggles through life, relationships and responsibility. Her first meeting with Doom (Seo In Guk) is not love at first sight but rather loathing that needs to turn into affection. His regard for her is one apathy and slight amusement for a person that threw her fate into a wish upon his name. They grow into a relationship and by the time they regard one another with affection, I know longer realize they are performers in a part. The acting craft in the drama is exhibited with flawless execution by all parties and again, by episode 14, there is not one emotion on the screen that I don't feel internally as a viewer.

"Doom At Your Service" is not a feel good drama but one that asks questions and then subtly answers them. I have a feeling that viewers will either find it thought provoking or dropped but ultimately, this story will resonate with me for a long time. What is fate through decision and what is fate unavoidable is something tackled in this story and I'll be interested to see what the last two episodes bring to the table.

Appropriately named Drama "Doom"

The first episode hooked me with some promising scenes of Doom doing his thing, getting the bad guys. However, further into the drama, it became evidently disappointing and eventually boring. I actually wanted to drop it, but held on because I was such a big Seo In Guk fan, hoping it would pick up later. The the ML & FL had no chemistry what so ever, I began to fast forward scenes of them together. I dont know why, but I could not relate to the FL at all, overall I think the storyline was pretty bad. Surprisingly, towards the middle I started gravitating towards the 2nd Lead couple, Team Leader Cha Joo Ik and the BFF Na Ji Na. Now she was a spit fire, I loved her. And I started to fall in love with Team Leader Cha Joo Ik, he was so cool. I started to look forward to more of their storyline and wishing they were the main characters instead. I hope they do get their own drama oneday. Overalll drama was "Doomed" to fail.

A boring drama

This drama, at the beginning, was able to make me keep my eyes open to not skip every minute. So In Goek plays as a strong role. At the first time I thought that he might play as an evil with strong character who really had an eager to destroy the world. The character will be shown as a jerk who really doesn't get much feeling.

He could be strong, unsociable and unhumane. These characters were introduced at the first episode. That's why I was so impressed to keep on watching.

But, the following really makes me bored. The character of lead male and female is not developed well. Myong turned into the humanist one. He also cried. And the way how he finally feels in love with Tak is so unnatural. Tak who first time tells him that she wants to love him, also doesn't make sense for me.

During the episodes, Tak can be described as a rational woman. She usually lives alone and had a relationship with a married man. She could be someone so strong. How could she becomes so easy to put her heart with a man whom she doesn't know closely. Curiosity is not I can find in her character.

The plot is more boring when the story goes to episode 6 untill 16. I didn't find something could make this drama so impressing. The deity and Myal Meong are not described well and consistently in this drama.

The ending of the story also can be so plain and not relevant from the beginning. I will not recommend this drama to watch.

Doomed By Design

I've never seen a drama that purposely go out of its way to avoid doing anything interesting with its scenario this hard. It took three full episodes just to do a basic introduction as stated in the synopsis, only then, the story somewhat started. Earlier in the second half, the drama reached a point where things were about to get interesting but it suddenly hard pressed the reset button on everything. The writer was genuinely not even trying, she worked on The Beauty Inside (2018) previously which was decent but what is she even doing here?

Subsequently, themes of death, mortality, grief and fate were poorly injected and remained half-baked. The unusual romance was justified by using a blend of these themes but it didn't make sense or click. Even then, it created a big disconnect when it reached its highest moments. However, it wasn't as bad as the secondary couple romance, which gave us a despicable characterization of the characters Joo Ik, Hyun Gyu and Ji Na. Their relationship didn't fit the story, narrative and themes. It had no thoughts put into it and adding it was a mere useless filler. Even as a standalone independent relationship outside the context of this drama, it failed for a multitude of reasons. At least the character Ji Na served as the FL's friend.

"Doom at Your Service: A Mesmerizing Blend of Fantasy, Romance, and Philosophy"

"Doom at Your Service" is a K-drama that showcases a well-paced plot, instantly capturing the viewer's attention from the very first episode. As the narrative unfolds, the flow is seamlessly executed, avoiding any choppiness when transitioning between scenes and subplots. However, one aspect of the drama that did not resonate well with me was the love triangle subplot, which felt poorly executed, making me skip those scenes.

Despite not being a tension-filled or suspenseful drama, it manages to maintain engagement throughout, prompting me to binge-watch it over two days after its full release. While the drama is categorized as a comedy, I found that it lacks traditional humor, with occasional life moments that elicit laughter but no real jokes. One of the standout features of this series is its originality in incorporating fantasy elements into the storyline. While the main plot is relatively basic, it complements the fantasy aspect, making it easier for the audience to understand and connect with.

Although I appreciated the character development in the drama, I wish the author had included more unique and distinguishing scenes or actions within the plot to elevate it further. The characters themselves are a highlight, with none of them coming across as unbearable or overly cliché. The female lead's charm lies in her playful dynamics, wit, and profound philosophical answers, which add depth to her character. The male lead's portrayal of a non-human learning about humans is done in a way that avoids cringiness, thanks to well-written dialogue.

The strength of the drama lies in the dialogue between the female and male leads, providing depth and dimension to their characters. The secondary couple, particularly the male lead, is intriguing due to their unique character development and well-executed dialogue. However, the romantic dynamic of the second male lead falls short. As for Na Ji Na, her character may lack development or depth, and it is unclear whether it's due to the acting or the writing.

The main couple's chemistry is a standout, with both actors delivering excellent performances and avoiding clichés in their interactions. While the concept of them falling in love is conventional, the spontaneous moments between them make the drama special. The secondary couple becomes more engaging as the series progresses, but the early parts, especially the love triangle scenes, felt boring.

The support characters' depth and interactions, like the coworkers dating and the writer with a crush on the female lead, added significant value to the drama. The cinematography is beautiful, featuring high-quality shots. The direction taken by the writer is enjoyable, with no desire to tweak certain aspects.

The soundtrack is enjoyable overall, although the use of the song "I Wanna Be With You" by Gummy during happy moments gave off a somewhat sad vibe. What truly stands out about this drama is its deep philosophical elements, leaving viewers pondering long after watching it. However, one issue that bothered me significantly was the portrayal of Kevin as a character, with the use of Korean and English dialogue when he interacted with others feeling somewhat disjointed, possibly due to translation issues. Additionally, the use of "he's American" when a character exhibited rude behavior did not sit well with me as a foreigner, particularly an American.

Love this drama

I love this drama.
Thank you so much
I was surprised by the depth of this story, which reminds you of many things in life that we completely forget "life itself" and the moment we have right now.
Attitude towards ourselves and others, lessons we need to learn, how to rise when it is hardest and share happiness with everyone around us in every second of existence no matter what life brings us.
Let us be the best we can become and give the best of ourselves in every moment of our existence as only that will remain behind us by which people will remember us.
Simply it is love and become love

Could have been better

I was anticipating this drama very much as I love fantasy-themed dramas plus the fact that it has amazing casts.

At first, I got perplexed by their plot. It was difficult for me to understand their world plus the fact that it was fast-paced made me more bewildered. As I decided to watch it until the end I understand what they wanted to portray. However, as I scrutinized while watching I believe that the story does not make sense. They did not make use of the fantasy genre to its full extent. They only bragged that the male lead is a doom and such. It was not explained thoroughly how their world works. So I got no choice but to keep watching and do my best to understand their world but until the end, I did not get any answer.

As I watched the behind the scenes I saw that the director along with the actors and staffs had done their job very well. Because of that, I believe that the way the writer presented the story was not written well which can be done better. I also got to guess what happened in the ending so I was sort of disappointed.

fated fatansy

I really dont understand why there are so many negative reviews on this drama. from my perspective,i found it AMAZING and seeing the reviews its making me to have trust issues:/ Anyways..

While watching this drama,I had a lot of mental breakdown during the airing period.
I was nervous if this would come to an end with a sad ending, but believe me, its a happy ending althought i wont say I was 100% satisfied with how it ended. for the last 4_5 episodes, the kept hinting me about having a marriage, but i felt so betrayed when it didnt happen lol. But yes,it had some cliches too on some episodes although i dont know why people are so mad at that when its just not a very big deal.

Anyways, i found the story very interesting and felt so much eager to know further, and without any realisation,i fell in love with everything, like LITERALLY EVERYTHING. Even the actors, their chemistry of both main and second leads, the osts and more which is not coming in my mind right now xD.

And honestly, in my personal likings,I usually dont like love -triangles,or amnesia thingys although I'm fine watching it along. And all these situations happens in this drama too but still,i love how it happened. to be more precise, it makes sense to have those things according to the plot. And the best part is love-triangle do happens, but not between the protagonists, instead with the second leads, it was something new to me to happening like that so i find it interesting.

The OSTS are VERY SOOTHING,TOUCHING,MELANCHOLY or how should i describe other than this,i dont have any idea. it is something i could never get tired of listening, just like the osts of IOTNBO. And also the fact that Seo In Guk,the main protagonist of this drama, and the kpo group i stan,TOMORROW X TOGETHER, and artists i love like Davichi and Gummy, and the kings of osts,EXO where only Baekhyun sings here. and I'm glad i got to know talented artists like Sondia:)

And it has very good character development too. At first, Dong Kyung never tells how she truly feels to anyone and wrapped up all her true feelings to herself. And Myeol Mang(or Kim Saram lol)he dont push her feelings way or force her to speak up all at once, instead he gives time to herself, i really liked that part of him (and more ofc)and you would notice how her character developed if you watched it with whole-heartedly. And also for Na Ji Na,about she moved on from her unforgotten first love and "its not about loving the first person as your first love but when you love someone you feel now and it feels like first love" by Cha Joo Ik.

For the overall i would ay this is a VERY GOOD DRAMA FOR A PERSON WHO LIKES ROMANCE-FANTASY, COMEDY INCLUDED.
and also as this is my first time giving a review about a drama i went through alot of thoughts and still cant believe a drama would makes me write about a long ass paragraph when i didnt even do this much for an english essay xD.

A regurgitated concept that failed to materialise

The drama from the way its written, the screenplay and the direction kept me feeling its a regurgitated mess from the writer's mind. Literally like she was in a pensive mood, staring out the window on a rainy day, thinking of life and death.

The fantasy bits were to suit the whim of creating a helpless deity that meddles with people's fate and a doom whose mundane life of endless days and night to bring doom. The way it is written creating an unusually emotionally strong FL and an interesting meeting with Doom that then spirals out to nothing. FL's brother and aunt was never fleshed out to give the family arc that the FL is supposedly protective of. They were just there for the writer's machinations.

The other triangle was even more pointless. Other than sharing the same office space as FL, it felt like 2 different sets of drama and story in one setting. Worse off, it wasnt interesting and I dont care about them.

As with many other people's thoughts, I thought the casts were wasted. ML in a few bts clips was asked to remain expressionless..iys like taking the soul out of a soulful actor. FL should probably take a break from Fantasy genre. I love her to bits and hope she rebounds with a better movie/drama next time.

UNNECESSARY HATE!!!!

Yes this drama is not perfect and could have been WAY BETTER but it was not "mediocre" or "disappointing" in the slightest. After Goblin people seem to have high expectations when it comes to fantasy kdramas but this genre is not meant to be perfectly logical or straight to the point. Doom at your service has some romance cliches and repetitive storylines but it wasn't that bad to the point that it makes this drama feel frustrating to watch.

The leads have an amazing chemistry but the side characters were what made this drama entertaining and fun to watch. For a fantasy genre there aren't many "fantasy scenes" and fantasy beings. The DEITY is surprisingly my favourite character in the storyline. You would think she is this ALMIGHTY BEING that is inflexible and omnipotent but to our surprise she is this weak, cute and caring being that LOVES HUMANS with all her heart.

I would definitely recommend this drama to other people NOT FOR THE ROMANCE STORYLINE but for the COMPLEX RELATIONSHIPS between family members, between omnipotent beings, between human and god and between humans living under the same sky...

One of the few positive reviews you are looking for...

Just finished watching this drama and the emotion is still raw. But seeing all the bad reviews gave me the urge to write my first ever review.

DAYS is like your any other fantasy k-drama . Life threatening risk factor, prince charming comes to the rescue, amazing cinematography, nice ost's, problems arise, working things out, and so on .....

And like any other fantasy k-drama some things may seem out of logic. But isn't fantasy about breaking the barriers of logic and making the impossible possible? ..... Everybody hopes for miracle... And that’s what DAYS is.

DAYS is like simple chocolate. Some may not like it. But others will love it for It's simple but sweet taste. I loved it’s simplicity, hope you’ll like the taste too...

I don't even know

When this drama was first announced I was ecstatic! I waited soooo long for it to come out and when it finally did I was moved to tears by the first two episodes. I honestly thought this show was going to become one of my favorites but that unfortunately didn't happen. I watched the show every week and I was sad when I realised my enthusiasm was slowly decreasing. I love tragic fantasy dramas and I was hoping this drama would be fresh and show us something new, like Goblin did in 2016. However, the way the story was deal with wasted all its potential. This could have been an epic show! The cast was amazing, the chemistry was the best I've seen from both leads, the plot was intriguing and the characters were captivating. It's just that the way the writers decided to go with this show felt wrong, as if everything they had build up started crumbling down and ended up being just another fantasy drama. To be completely honest, I wouldn't mind a sad ending or a happy ending, as long as the development until then had been worth it and made sense. I liked the ending but the way the story got there was just... so flat? As a viewer, I feel like I was cheated out of something. I guess I can't understand why the writers didn't make a better use of the universe they created and focused on strengthening it instead of just repeating the same patterns and dialogues throughout the show. For example, Doom was an immortal! He had been living for thousands of years (I guess??)! Yet we get 0 backstory, no past experiences from him or acquired knowledge apart from his hatred for humanity. Also, I liked the second leads but I felt like their story fit a completely different show, even if they were directly connected to the female lead. Why couldn't the writers write their story in a way that complemented the main one???
I don't know how to review this show because my emotions are just all over the place. I would recommend others to watch it because it is a good quality show at the end of the day but don't go into it thinking it's going to change your life or that it brings something new to the table. The wasted potential of this show feels bitter if you go into it with extremely high expectations haha!
