One Night Bride (2019)

If you are looking for a cheerful, jaunty drama without crying, then The Romance of Hua Rong is the best.
Of course, like every drama I ever watched, this one has a lot of clichés and calculable scenes. As for me, it is absolutely positive, 'cause a simple kiss scene makes me happy for the 100th time as well.

The acting was a pleasure to watch. The two main characters get along really well, and the male lead (Qin Shang Cheng-Yuan Hao) became a fav for me.

And here comes the CGI... God it was soooo BAD... I couldn't hold my laughter back when the first scene came containing some animated things. It was clear for the first time that it's a cheaper drama, but was the budget really that tight? Actually, it was so bad that it was good :D

To sum up, it is not a serious drama. If you want to laugh a lot, and are definitely in need with a caring and cute male lead, The Romance of Hua Rond is a must!

Light, easy to watch rom-com

I think what sets this c-drama apart from several other "girl dressed as boy" type of rom-com is the pirates setting. It takes you to a different "world" right away and that is refreshing. The plot is ok but can feel a little disjoined as it is structured like book chapters with an overarching backstory. Ultimately it is the usual revenge story with romance and pirate shenanigans thrown in. The OTP has good chemistry and a decent amount of skinship. The funny thing is that the skinship was more on show in the earlier part when the ML was wooing the FL and he is constantly teasing her and trying to steal a kiss here and there. After they declared their love, it was more subdued. The fight scenes where decent, more stylised than dramatic though. The support casts are generally good where most of them have exaggerated comedic roles. No terrible love triangles (they do play up the jealousy angle a fair bit which can get old) . There are a certain amount of misunderstandings but cleared up fairly quickly. My overall impression of this show is probably best summed up as uneven. Nothing horribly wrong with it and when it is good, it is a fun romp but it does have its awkward moments, especially when it is mixed in with a good dose of cliché. Likewise, the FL swings from cute and clever to annoying (oh, the screaming...). Thankfully, her character does mature and grow and becomes more enjoyable as the drama progresses. All in all, not a bad rom-com with low angst and cute/funny moments.

The description sounded a bit corny and the beginning indeed was a bit corny so I thought I'd watch a few episodes to see how it went. And then I found myself falling in love with the two leads, but especially with the male lead, whose dimples just kept me glued to his every smile. His every gesture and action was just charismatic and mesmerizing. One of the best actors of all the dramas I've seen to date and I think he's got a lot to offer (look forward to seeing him in more roles!). The female lead was a bit annoying at first but they made a good couple and they had good chemistry.

It's a good old-fashioned romance where brotherhood, friendship, true love, chivalry and loyalty are all major ingredients in making this a light-hearted but entertaining story that doesn't wear you out with too many episodes.

Já começou em confusão, mas tenho que confessar que gostei do jeito girl power de Hua Rong e apesar de ser louquinha, realmente me conquistou com seu jeito independente de ser, mesmo que em algum momento precisasse de ajuda não era do tipo que depende de homem. Mesmo assim não se sentiu diminuída quando precisava de ajuda, sempre tentava ajudar outras mulheres e detestava quando duvidavam de seu potencial. Amo reforçar como Hua Rong é independente e decidida.

Qin Shang Cheng, que homem! Uma hora queria o chutar outra suspirava com sua gentileza. Ele é um líder justo, tem alguns traços machistas, por exemplo a prender na ilha, mas mesmo assim não tem masculinidade tóxica apesar de que por vezes achei que sim, algo positivo nele é que o mesmo se desconstrói e reconstrói diariamente. Com ele aprendi que é impossível ser totalmente livre de alguns conceitos aprendidos, mas que mesmo assim sempre se pode aprender e os respeitar. Para não parecer que estou passando pano, ele tem péssima mania de tentar decidir por Hua Rong e isso faz as discussões surgirem, pelo menos ele realmente tenta entender o lado dela.

Jin Yi Wen melhor pessoa, admira ela do jeito que é e não é machista, sempre gentil. Amei sua personalidade e fiquei feliz com seu desenvolvimento e final, ele é do tipo de personagem que achamos que terá uma aparição rápida e sumirá, mas felizmente não é o caso.

Olhando como um todo eu gostei, mas há coisas que não foram de meu agrado. As aberturas e encerramentos resumem o dorama todo, li em algum lugar que isso é comum em cdramas, este é meu quarto então não sei, as lutas exageradas e falas digamos óbvias e vazias, que foi essa ideia clichê de separação perto do final?

Esperava mais do final, achei corrido e senti falta de alguns personagens, mas não foi de todo mal.

this just goes to show how important dubbing is

i really don't know why this is rated so high? the acting is meh (ML is fine), the dubbing is meh (i like ML's va), and the two not being in sync (timing & emotions) is a recipe for disaster.

i'm giving this the benefit of the doubt and putting story at 5 because the horrid audio (some of the music choices are weird too) makes it impossible for me to get into the plot. ML is a saving grace for me, but not enough to make me keep watching FL being a screaming mess. i heard it maybe gets better after she stops screaming but i'll never know because i can't stand FL's acting.

Not Worth It

So I saw the rating is 8.0 and the synopsis was not bad. You can find the eng subs in youtube tho.

But here’s the thing. I love this type of story - costume, strong ML, smart FL and happy ending.

I admit I drop at episode despite the amazing acting by the Male Lead. He definitely deserve more Main Role in the future. The way he potray his character is amazing. Being the pirate leader, he is so calm, smart and very affectionate - which really make me stay until the episode 4.

They should choose a better FL. If even her character supposed to be annoying, smart and full of tricks, she should potray it better. The annoying screaming the whole episode, the forced acting she put, it is too much. I am not sure why she debuted straight as FL and keep getting Main role. She should improved in her acting - it is too made up. She tried to be very expressive but she overdoing it too much. I wish they choose better actress, maybe Dilraba or Mary Ma or Xu Mu Chan from Lost Love in Times, they’ll potray this character way better than the current.

The plot is okay so far, and I didn’t finished it so Ill said up to episode 4, there was ridiculous hiccup here and there but it can be better.

I would love to see Yuan Hao in more drama as Main Lead
