#Alive Review

So I watched this like once it aired on Netflix, and I honestly had really high expectations because the last Korean zombie movie I watched (Train to Busan) was one of the best movies I have ever watched. Now with this being said this movie wasn't horrible but it wasn't that good. But I will say that the movie is creative and is funny, but for half of the runtime all we do is look at the characters and nothing interesting happens. The movie is also not memorable or worth watching again, but if you do decide to watch this DO NOT go into it expecting much because you won't get much.

Alive

Disappointing

I gave this a watch over the Halloween season..I thought the premise seemed interesting and so far I’ve been pretty impressed by Korea’s depictions of zombies.

I’m not gonna lie, I didn’t like this too much lol.
It’s just a series of the main character making stupid decisions..yes, a common complaint of the horror genre, but it was pretty hard to suspend disbelief on this one.

Seeing people getting eaten alive outside and hearing disturbing sounds from your hallway? Open the door!

Doomed woman outside getting eaten alive? Yell out your window and attract zombies to your apartment!

Family is murdered? Go outside and YELL in the zombies faces!

Has a gun at a critical moment and doesn’t use it only to use it later unnecessarily and attract every zombie in radius? Perfect logic

Watch several people die at the hands of a few zombies down below? Drop into a sea of them and clumsily fight them off!

Find a dead body right outside your door that just so happened to have lived in the building and just so happened to have his key on him and you just so happened to know where the apartment was...convenient.

Find a whole wall of climbing equipment? Only take the Nutella and Walkie Talkie!

Also, why does he have electricity but the other apartments don’t?

And the list goes on....

Only saving grace was the makeup and special effects.

Amazing movie

This is a great movie. I will suggest people watch it and decide for themselves instead of listening to other people's opinions.
I was pleasantly surprised because I'm not a fan of zombie movies but this one is really good.
I think the lesson to be gotten from it is survival. They didn't focus on trying to tell us what disease caused people to become zombies, they only tried to tell us what we can do if we ever find ourselves in such situation.
I applaud how they showed us that the leads almost gave up and didn't paint them as strong people.
They are just two people that gave strength to each other at a low point in their lives.

Too Slow For Me...

A quieter, smaller zombie film which harkens to today's COVID quarantine climate which although technically good was a bit too slow and sparse for my taste. For much of the running time, my mind drifted and I was slightly bored, but this film was only 1.5 hours so I stuck it out. Of course, comparison will be made with Train to Busan, which I found to be much better in terms of story, emotion and payoff. #Alive was a bit too anticlimatic for me. There were a few plot points that I wasn't sure about like why the FL would risk her life to join the ML or why they both want to reach the 'empty' 8th floor. If you really like zombie films, I would give this a try, but if not, you can skip it...

not really a spoiler in the review but just in case...

With movies and show like Train to Busan 2 and Kingdom this just falls flat in comparison. It is not a bad movie. It's decent. Not amazing or great. Just good.
When I first saw the trailer I was really excited about it. It looked amazing. Kind of gave me Dead Days - webtoon- vibe. And I was so into watching this. I couldn't wait to find it and watch.
But now that I have, I realized how amazing this movie could had been if they had just changed a few things.
The acting was good as always. Nothing on that.
The story however was just badly done. Like few times in the movie the plot just didn't even made sense. Seriously running through a road full of zombies but not even a scratch on the MC? ...........
This had the nicest zombies I had ever seen in a movie. Only bites in the neck and runs so damn slow, that it gives out MC's enough time to think, plot and execute a plan.
I am not gonna re-watch it. Once is enough.

Well, It's certainly no Train to Busan...

Recently, Korea has produced some of the most critically acclaimed disaster/zombie sensations in recent history such as Flu, Train to Busan, and Kingdom. Unfortunately, this movie is far from any of these. With such little backstory, there is hardly any emotional depth to the story - the terror, the humanity, the urgency which made these productions so thrilling are incredibly lacking. Rather, all of these elements serve as the backdrop for a romance theme. As much as I love the cast, the directors are clearly just bandwagoning and using them for quick money. Incredibly disappointing.

A STRAIGHTFORWARD ZOMBIE MOVIE

I expected the movie will be 2 hours long but its really only 1 hour and minutes something and I am those people who thought that the main plot will be happening around the half minutes of the movie but in my surprise afttaco buy painter like 5 to 10 minutes the outbreak of zombies occured. The ending is okay because they are safe now in the zombies that had spread on their apartments, if you going to ask me the possibility is not high enough to have a season 2 (they may or not may add a season 2) depending if they are satisfied in the ending which the infected people are less than 50,000 and through social media they can track people who needs to be save.

This is a good movie. Everything seemed realistic and nothing was too over the top. But I have to say, the zombies felt a bit underwhelming, especially comparing it to other Korean zombie films of recent years. The movie itself is more on how to survive and the struggles that come with it. You don't really get much of a storyline outside of this surviving a zombie apocalypse plot. If you've watched EXIT ( Jo Jung Suk and Yoona) before you might find it similar to #Alive.

Nothing much can really be said about the movie as I felt there was nothing complicated about the movie in any aspect. All in all, it was fairly good.

Mediocre

It's a nice movie to just waste your time on. I'd recommend it if you're interested in something that's a no brainer. Just like other typical zombie movie, really, but with top tier actors. Sadly, the storyline is plain and SHORT. When it ended, I couldn't help but think 'that's it??'. I couldn't help but notice some flaws in the logic of the movie. I'd usually overlook these flaws but this movie has nothing to make up for it. Nonetheless, it was still an enjoyable process but very anticlimactic.

It's not over until it's over

I don't usually want to rate stuff unless it's over 8. However, I just can't bring myself to rate this more than 7 at the same time I think this is still worth seeing. It was still very engaging and it made me wonder what's going to happen next.

There's something missing though but I can't pinpoint exactly what it is.

So if you like zombie movies, this is definitely a must-see. The whole flow was good but nothing outstanding apart from both the actors' performance. I think it has something to do about the whole timeline of when and how fast things happened that disrupted it a bit for me.

I'm glad I watched it though, definitely something good to engage yourself in for an hour and a half.

So the concept of #Alive is very similar to Train to Busan, but less intense. It was a bit slow in the beginning because the story is very character focused. Our MMC is couped up in his house for weeks before we even meet the other main character, the FMC. It kind of has a survivalist feel to it in the beginning, which was a bit slow, yet not entirely boring.

Once we meet the FMC, things really pick up. Their interactions were nice and the way the story evolves with them working together was cool.

The last 30 minutes had me on the edge of my seat - I wasn't sure if they'd make it or not (after Train to Busan, I have trust issues XD). I loved the ending, even if it's unlikely. I don't care! It was a great way to finish the story.

Overall, if you like zombie movies, I'd say, obviously watch it. If you're a chicken like me when it comes to scary stuff, this isn't scary really, just gory. It's not terribly intense and the ending is satisfying. I'd recommend giving it a shot, but it's not a "must see".
