If your gonna watch this...prepare to shut off your brain.

This was an addicting watch but don't fool yourself- the whole plot is so horrendous that i genuinely question what the hell was going in the directors mind at the time. Sure it was 2009 and expectations/likings were different back then but that doesn't stop it from being a mess. I can't even formulate an objective-non biased review because this whole show is actually so stupid LOL.

All of the main characters are cringe and dramatic, they seriously need help. The editing was done by an 11 year old. The OST has like 4 songs LMAO but its iconic.

Hye Suns acting was plain bad. Geum Jan Di.. girly pushed my buttons, I was experiencing second hand embarrassment from her the whole time. She is unbearably air-headed, overreactive, dramatic, impulsive, and the way she eats...i dont wanna shame someone for how they eat but u can't ignore it, she eats like a slob! HOW is that attractive? Literally how did so many guys drool over her? Are yall down bad for a girl who has ZERO manners. Okay yes, i'll admit that she is not necessarily a bad person because she dOeS work hard and can be considerate at times but MY GOD this woman is not smart at all because she tries to act tough in the wrong situations, she gets stupider and stupider as he episodes go by because her prince charming, one of a kind, showstopping, never seen before Gu Jun Pyo comes to always save the day!! She puts herself through abuse and toxicity. A freaking masochist, yes, thats what she is!She screams and screams and screams and the way she says "gU jUn pYo" gosh can she just stfu.

Also Jandi's parents are so weird like okay um chile-

Lee Min Ho's acting was decent, much better than Hye Sun's. But MY GOD, Gu Jun Pyo is literally just a trainwreck of a character. Man has the ugliest karen hair and of course like some other dumb tsundere, he's gotta have a sad past to make watchers have sympathy over his violent and childish actions because Jan Di won't look at him all the time. He's a bully and targets anyone who can't do what he wants because his anger issues makes up his whole personality. He has like one braincell but the writer tries so hard to make us believe he's a fucking genius. What more could i say about him? he got no personality, no flavor, except pissing everyone off.

Jan Di's and Jun Pyos relationship is literally the most hysterical thing on this earth. They fight for the dumbest reasons. Jun Pyo treated her like a pet, grabs her collar and threatened her because she talked with a guy. He beats up any guy who gets in his way. He is literally a toxic manipulative ruthless asshole. Things like forcefully taking Jandi on a vacation is so manly and attractive to our girl!! Who cares if he's emotionally and physically abusive, he takes me to rich places, buys me things, and treats me to good food, what more could i ask for?? Pff. Your in love? Nope girly u were never able to dislike him cause u want that bread, no. 1 sugar daddy!

Ji hoo is just one of those wannabe sad second leads. I just don't care, everything was so forced and poorly executed.

The F4 are all just arrogant bitchy guys who try too hard to act cool, yes, including Yi Jung. They all see the shit that Jun Pyo does but never has the sense to realize- or they do realize but don't stop him- from being a jerk. Woo Bin has no plot, he was as useless as the p in raspberry...like why... was he part of the main cast? Oh! to make up F4.

Anyways here are some of the positives:

Ga Eul and Ji Yungs relationship was much more interesting. Don't get me wrong, they acted childish at times but at least communicated better, they put their dreams first before a risky relationship. Right person wrong time (don't worry its a happy ending, if u care)

Jandi's friend and Jun Pyos "fiance" were really the only characters i liked. At least they had some sort of common sense and didn't try to put themselves in obvious troubling situations. Jun Pyos fiance (whatever her name is) was pretty mature and cared about others but was smart enough to never put herself below anyone. Though Ga Eul was pretty naive as well, she was still mature enough to follow her dreams and form the better solutions for her wellbeing.

Anyways, if you choose to watch this mAsTeRpIeCe, just be sure to shut off all your logical thinkings skills.

the mind versus the heart: is loving BOF a moral issue?

yes, this show has aged poorly and has problematic aspects - however I still love it so I don’t understand you haters who made it go down to a 7.5 stars!!! anywho, it’s not about the show itself, but the ability it has through it’s nostalgic music, weird characters, and crazy plot to make you forget about your miserable life. thank you, and watch this show! it won’t improve your life, but the characters’ problems sure will make you forget about yours. #thisOSTslaps #GeunJanDi4theDeathPenalty #allMediaIsProblematicAnyways

Boys over flowers is the kind of drama that when someone who's new to korean drama asks you which drama should I watch first you find yourself recommending it!
it's based of a Japanese manga called Hana Yori Dango and in my opinion I find most of the dramas based on a manga are fairly successful
this one actually tops the list

ok first the story: it started with a weird plot twist a funny one to be exact I didn't get it but afterwards I found it nice what I didn't like was the cliche story of a poor girl joining a school with rich guys it's not that I hate it but it's almost happening in every korean drama but it didn't bother me as much
I also didn't like the idea that the heroine is way too much tom-boyish and that didn't change until in the second part of the story and I actually have a problem with these type of heroines and the weird thing she's good to only the guy she loves and she screws the rest I won't say more because of spoilers but who watched the drama will get it ..she had an average character development for a tom-boyish girl falling in love and all but personally I'm not a fan of Geum Jan di
as for Goo Joon Pyo the character is a bit cliche but I liked it.. the bad spoiled rich guy turns good after falling in love.. I liked how loyal he is to his girlfriend and how much his acts were acts of true love the ideas and the moments between Jan Di and Joon Pyo were impressively romantic and new.. and as for the character developments Joon Pyo's were the best and So Yi Jung's were the worst..I hated how much heartless he was even after too much moments of showing love he was still a jerk and I don't think normally there is that much of a jerk in somebody towards a girl who treats him nicely
the story gets a 9 because it was a romantic overdose for me which I really liked

Acting: let me first start with Gu Hye Sun because I have a little problem with her showing emotions..first of all I thought the character didn't fit her Jan Di was way too aggressive and Hye Sun's face features didn't show that ..she actually didn't look like a bad girl to me she was the kind that made me laugh every time she made an aggressive move because she was so small and cute to hit guys and being a bad girl
and as for emotional moments Hye sun's problem that she can't separate between how to look sad on the verge of crying face and the Do I look like I care face or more like I feel sad but I just don't give a damn face
Lee Min Hoo is an exceptional actor for me because he's really good at expressing his emotions on his face and actions specially when he's angry
I have a little problem with him overrating sadness and the way he shows it but I think I can pass because his overall good acting makesup for it
I give the acting 8 because of Gu Hye Sun obviously

Music: I won't be overrating when I say this is one of the best Korean drama music of all time and the secret in my opinion that is the songs fit the moments they play in a lot.. which helps you get focused on the scene and what's happening in it.. I still have the music on my current playlist it's one of my favorites I give it a 9.5

Rewatch or not?: I give it a 5 because the drama is way too long for me to rewatch it since I'm the kind of person who rarely rewatch a drama unless I'm waaay too attached to it

overall: this drama is one of Korean dramas classics which means it's a must if you're still new to korean dramas it's one of the best school dramas out there and if you're looking for hardcore Romance this drama is for you I give it an 8.5 and I could've gave it more if the heroine was someone other than Gu hye sun.. hope this was useful ;)

This is my favourite serie and everything was perfect in this drama. Thus this show was amazing not from the story itself alone, but from the flawless portrayal from the main characters and the amazing chemistry between Geum Jan Di and Goo Joon Pyo. :)

Does not age well, so bad it's almost good

This drama does not age well. I know that this is considered a classic because it was very popular when it was released but this drama is the antithesis of timeless. It is absolutely not timeless even less than 20 years later. It has the most sexist plotline I've ever seen post 1990 and the most horrendous acting performance done by a FL. The only thing this drama has going for it is the OST and its loud late 2000s/2010s fashion style. Everything else in this is absolute garbage and not worth watching after 2010.

I would place this drama in the category of "so bad it's good" like watching the Twilight series. People meme and rewatch Twilight in the United States because it was so bad that it's almost good. I would put BOF in the same category. I gave it a high rewatch value simply because it is so bad, it's entertaining to rewatch and laugh about it because it is so cringe I can barely believe it was real. This whole drama is like a fever dream.

W♡nder-Girl Meets Bad☆Boy☆Band! °8.3° °Excellent°

Wondering if this is worth your time?

If you love Kromcoms, this show is mandatory. If you think romcoms are Daebek, SK or otherwise, you will want to add this one to your list. Here's the test: If you aren't starstruck by ep2's conclusion, just move on; BOF is not for you.

Jun-Pyo may love viewing the skies through his telescope, but BOF isn't intended to be viewed through a high powered one. Lie back, look at the stars and dream a spell. Yes, there's consistency issues, and 2-2-Too much back and forth. Yet, I couldn't stop watching. 25 episodes is a LOT, and yes, it should have been trimmed back. The last vignette is best forgotten; it's that 5th season that never should have been made. Ask Jun-Pyo to hand over a towel in order to wipe that one away.

Additionally, it stretches credulity a tad far when we see these ruthless and cruel overlords of the school all (rather quickly) turn from black holes into North Stars. Actually, the 3 aren't necessarily cruel, but they are indifferent, which is just as bad. Since they were in playpens together, it seems that his 3 quasi underlings just let Jun-Pyo be Jun-Pyo. He is the sole instigator, the solar flare. Jan-di's parents are over the top of Namsam tower extra, but within the sphere of comedies at large. Jan-di has some strange moments in the first 3 or so episodes. She almost looks (clinically) spastic. Obviously, the director was going for laughs, but ultimately gets a "Huh?" None of that is important, though, because this is very Pride and Prejudice (especially if Darcy had an evil queen for a mother) with some Beauty and the Beast stardust thrown in.

Geum Jan-di is a beautiful soul, and Gu Jun-pyo loves her so completely, that I fell for them. Their relationship is lovable... when it's not WWIII, that is. The way they tit-for-tat fight, make up, and merely converse (always addressing each other using full names only, for example) is adorable. The leads did a bang-up job: The attachment feels authentic, and the sparks are visceral. While I haven't seen the lauded Japanese version, Koo Hye-sun is perfect - she's artsy, smart, and still forward-strong: She's a singer-songwriter, actress, director and artist now. I love her Jan-di, except for the loose handful of Red Cards. Lee Min-Ho - Don't dismiss him. He's not a heartthrob merely because he dropped from the sky that way. He built his image one work at a time, and BOF was his big launch to international stardom.

It does make sense that he falls for her, btw. "No" is something he'd never heard. Ever. He's no longer a lone star in upper space looking down on everything. Here comes a moon at his level, orbiting him. He loves the challenge. While engaging in the contest and in partial shock a girl exists that isn't interested in him, Gu Jun-Pyo concludes that Jan-di is the #only light in his sky. He's been denied love and family time, which is what his heart wants most. She blew his mind by standing up to him. He fixates on Jan-di as his panacea, his home. He boorishly pursues her, knowing nothing but bossing people around. He'll grab her arm to drag her somewhere, and she #lets him. She, likely, has no idea why(?!) she lets him. She certainly doesn't want to like him - given how much she °loathes° him. The human heart is a mystery, indeed. If you find his behavior offensive, you're right, but only for a twinkle. Gu Jun-Pyo is a quasar, Jan-di, the red giant. Once their paths collide, the quasar changes course, shooting down to earth. All those episodes find Jan-di schooling Gu Jun-Pyo. He accepts her tutoring and becomes a better, happier, more peaceful man. The opening of the show finds him a veritable toddler - le infantile terrible - throwing tantrums and money at everything that vexes him. Don't think for a moment that he's domineering, abusive, or controlling in the relationship; that ain't what's going down. Jan-di would kick him in the head if she didn't want his attentions. Anyone thinking Gu Jun-Pyo is in the lead is projecting. He enters HER world, and it's endearing. They travel light-years to bond, only to have that bond tested to the extreme. The gravitational pull between them only strengthens as they share any orbit to work through obstacles together.

BOF is an excellent choice for teens. Jan-di is a shining role model. Her beautiful smile elevates all who are in her proximity (except The Witch). She stands for what's right. She is courageous. She's a veritable Joan Of Arc in the battle for Shinwa High- Without the burned-at-the-stake thing. Yet, she can be as comforting as a plate of warm pancakes. The way Gu Jun-Pyo adores her, emitting rays of warmth in which she can bask, should resonate with teenage girls, and prod them to reflect on their standards when it comes to boyfriend material. If you can swim with it and overlook some of the goofy stuff, you will escape to the great beyond with this entire group of friends. You will also be treated to an epic kiss, mid thruway at rush hour, in the background is the sun dropping from the sky, igniting the space between them. Eat your hearts out Sunny, Ginger & Miranda.

The notoriety of the show, which includes its effect on popular culture, plus the fact that BOF boosted Kdramas' popularity globally, as well as the numerous nominations and awards bestowed all supply evidence that this series is WONDER-FUL.

For Age 13+ with cautions: Jan-di gets duped into taking fetish photos. She's shown in a childlike skirt and wearing bunny ears. She holds up a revealing costume and refuses to put it on. There are two setups to look like two singles shared a bedroom (to get an enemy in trouble), and there was a lie about a pregnancy scare. These would all be good for generating worthy discussions regarding safety of person and reputation. Decide accordingly.

fanfiction live action

I first started watching ´Boys Over Flowers´ because it appeard on every romantic comedy drama suggestions, so…oh well, i decided to give it a try. Also, since years ago i´ve watched the anime version (Hana Yori Dango) i already knew what was coming around, still… it made me curious how they would produce this story.
I don´t know about the previous live action dramas ( maybe someday i´ll give it a try as well) but I was not expecting this drama version to be soooo good! The producers and the whole cast managed to improve some details of the story telling by focussing on and expanding every characters´ back stories, personalities and emotions in a very charismatic way, unlike the anime version ´Hana Yori Dango´, that payed more atention on the main roles instead.
Not to mention the ost was extremely catchy. Loved it! I coulnd´t stop singing along whenever such songs as ´Paradise´ (Almoooost Paradise! xD), ´Stand by me´, ´Because i´m Stupid´, and ´One more time´came on. They were stuck in my head for days.
The only, tiny thing that i didn´t fully apreciate was the final episodes near the ending.. in my opinion they dragged it a little too much with that unnecessary final obstacle between the main charecters, because let´s be honest, they already had enough throughout the entire show. However, it was still a great ending.
Now, some of you might be asking: Is it worth a rewatch? My answer is definitely. Every element present in it is what makes it a classic in the history of dramas. So if you have it in your ´Plan to watch´ list or are considering to add it, then don´t miss it.

Unlikeable, toxic male lead character

This drama didn't age well and I think you are more likely to love it if you had the nostalgia of watching it as a younger person back in the day of it's release (2009). I watched it as an adult in 2023 and eventhough I expected clichés and toxicity, it was still so cringey and red flagged. The character Gu Jun Pyo is completely dislikeable and has no redeemable qualities, it was just impossible to root for him and Jan Di when he was literally her bully. In my opinion she and the 2ML had a better bond in the 2nd half of the drama. I also came to like the 2nd couple more. Overall I would have rated it a 0, maybe just 1 point for Lee Min Ho's crazy hair :)

Personal Review

It was a solid show, but the ending was a little disappointing, especially with the plot of characters leaving 4 years instead of staying with each other. Also, the father kind of just... Left? I assume it's because something happe ned to the actor, but it was a bit weird. I wish things would've gone more nice for Geum friend. She was left without answers and heart broken too many times. Yi-jeong should've treated her better. I wanted that ship to SAIL! Gu and Geum communication was terrible, which led them to having more problems. It's almost like Geum would've been better Ji Hoo, her "soulmate." I wasn't really attracted to him, but I wish he was given more a chance in the story. I wish Gu's mother would've honestly apologize for all the harm she did, but she literally did nothing. Very disappointed. She was one of the main reason why Gu and Geum kept breaking up! Overall, the character I would I say I fit the most in is Song Woo-bin. He plays as a side character in the story and doesn't have a strong personality like the others, but just like him I would probably be on the sidelines trying to help with others relationship. I wouldn't per say "beat people up," but if I had to, I would. I wish he had more of a character arc. He poses as goofy, which I am, and hangs out with Yi-jeong; which I would love to do. Also, he's a great dancer, if you know whattaaaa I MEANNAN.

Don't do it.

I was very small when I watched this. At the time, I saw nothing wrong with it. Now that I'm older, I can see how bad it is. I wouldn't recommend watching this, because, it's pretty TOXIC. The story is not that great either. There are so many better dramas out there. Don't waste your time with this one! Take this as a warning, haha. Pretend it doesn't exist! xD

This was the first Kdrama I ever saw and I've just loved it ever since~! In fact, I already re-watched it and kind of want to watch it again... Yes, it is quite long and near the end it gets a little... of track? But still, I just adore this drama and would recommend it any day~~ especially to people who are new to Kdramas~!! This is a MUST watch~~ ^^
