An origin story of superheroes’ parents

When I first tuned in to Moving, I thought it is another cliche Disney+ superhero series - the likes of Marvel with an Asian flavour. Here comes the but…Moving is a superheroes series that was done right. More aptly speaking, imagine this as an origin story of x-men if they were parents.

I am not one who fancy flashbacks. Moving uses it well though - each scene draws me further in, made me want to understand about Mi Hyun and her protectiveness more, to hope Doo Shik is safe, as well as to cheer for Joo Won and Jae Man for every punch, even if they are already superheroes themselves.

While we were first introduced to the story via Bong Seok’s perspective, I feel that this is really a Joo Won, Mi Hyun and Doo Shik story - on their battles, on their love stories and on their journey as parents who just want their children safe. We may start the story from the children’s present timeline. But we appreciate the actions and decisions the parents’ choose at present through understanding their past experiences.

This is what made Moving feels unique - despite all the unique abilities these people already possess, they are just like us. Civilians who struggles to break free from shackles of unfair expectations placed on them, and parents who want a better life for their kids.

What’s even greater is the cast’s chemistry and acting. It made for quite a satisfying viewing experience to have great actors and actresses bring out the characters’ energy and complexity on screen. No one is a weak link in this ensemble cast.

The fight scenes are a little too gruesome for my taste. Especially since some of characters have regenerative ability, the script does not hesitate to use all sorts of creative ways for the character to “die” and regenerate. It surreal I suppose, supported with great cinematography and visual effects befitting of the characters’ abilities.

Ultimately, I would say that Moving is a simple story about a group of parents wanting their children to live a life free from being controlled and manipulated by the wrong parties.

"It's a story about fighting. But it's about romance too."

Korean Version of X-Men

Amid the recent string of disappointments in US superhero movies and TV shows, the Korean take on superhero dramas outshines its US counterpart. This series focus on family and human relationship with intensity, suspense, and heartwarming moments. It kept me interested for entire 20 episodes, and I'm eagerly hoping for a second season. It stands in stark contrast to recent US superhero movies that often feel boring. I've wholeheartedly recommended this drama to all my friends. You won't regret watching this drama.

Stellar Performance Throughout, Fell Short at The Finale

SPOILER-FREE PART
Following the hype surrounding this drama, I decided to give it a watch.. and oh boy did they put something into it, cause' I couldn’t keep my eyes off the screen!

Looking at Moving’s (무빙) synopsis alone, although the premise isn’t entirely new to cinema, it definitely stands as one of the more well-produced ones, both in cinematography and script. For me, there were no complaints for the cinematography, as lighting, shots, angles, ambiance, and special effects were all done immaculately. I am an avid fan of dramas that don’t shy away from gore and the knitty-gritty details. The drama may be a bit extreme and bloody, but ultimately contributes to its incredible ambiance.

Acting-wise, you can just look at the lineup and can’t help feel content that you’re not wasting your time seeing emotionless characters and botched crying scenes. Also, can we just give a quick round of applause to the young actors? Admittedly, Korean cinema is filled with so many young talents, and Moving greatly demonstrated their potential to the world.

SPOILERS AHEAD
Looking at the plot, the synopsis is as straightforward as it can be. It doesn’t take much effort to understand what’s going on, courtesy of the dramas excellent worldbuilding and pacing, which sits at a comfortable level that keeps you on the edge of your seat, eyes locked in and all— at the right time. It also leaves you anticipating for the next episode to come out— a suspense factor, which is something I feel most action and thriller dramas lack nowadays, along with its unpredictability. Character relationships developed steadily and didn’t feel awkward or draggy. Despite that, the flow of the drama felt a bit off and confusing at times (at least for me). Keep in mind that this drama is flashback galore. We spend a good chunk in the past, so the present timeline feels more like a side story than the main. Adding to this, certain important events that occur throughout the drama tend to appear in mixed order, so not chronilogically, so it takes a bit of effort piecing this event with another and constructing a mental timeline of what events took place first, and how it later contributes to a future event. To my disappointment, I was left with quite a lot of plot holes, even after the story wrapped up, from the SCAs ultimate goal (why are they actively hiring someone to assassinate the Korean supernaturals, the breeding program that was briefly mentioned by the leader of the NIS, Kim Dooshik’s whereabouts, Ki-Soo’s ankle scar and its relation to the temp teacher, the headmasters assassination, and the mysterious identity shrouding the bullied classmate.

I would’ve also liked to see more of Gang-Hoon, as he had a rather weak presence throughout the drama. His story was just so.. lackluster compared to Bong-Seok’s and Hee-Soo’s.

Meanwhile, the ending felt rushed and just.. incomplete. I didn’t read the original webtoon, but I heard that the drama adaptation strayed quite a bit from its source material, so if there was a chance to revise the script, I would’ve definitely extended the drama’s length to tie up some of those loose ends.

If you’re unfamiliar with how I rate a drama’s storyline, check out my bio! Today’s ride scores a C!

SPOILER-FREE PART
Nonetheless, it was an awesome binge. Was it a masterpiece? No. However, it was still well worth the watch. I would recommend Moving for anyone. After all, you really can’t go wrong with a good superhero-themed drama to comfort your inner child with.

BEST KDRAMA OF 2023

OMGGG I LOVED THE WHOLE PLOT AND STORY...overall the kdrama was perfect
the cast was perfect.
I loved how they built suspense about what is happening in the whole story..
I really liked the past stories of how lee min hyun and Kim dooshik met...my personal fav was the love story of jang suwon and jeehi...also jangjuwon with his regenerative powers and Kim dooshik with his flying abilities was the best duo..
I loved how the drama portrayed the beautiful relationship of parent and their child. and the little teen romance between bongseok and huisoo was the cutest!!
one thing I would like to share is how in the last few episodes they made us empathise with the North Korean villains..like WHY AM I CRYING OVER A BAD GUY'S DEATH??
~SOME OF MY FAV SCENES~
1. baby bongseok and Kim dooshik's scene of flying in the sky above clouds
2. loved the scene in the end of how bongseok carries his injured mom...it made me emotional how in the beginning his mom used to go around him on her back

Not a one we often get

One of the finest dramas of 2023 so far. All characters have their own interesting stories. But there is not enough time to explore them.
The cast look perfect which is another hooking element . All of them did their roles well. Rooting for kimBongSeok and JungHuisoo?.They are cute together.
Never a fan of HanHyoJoo. But I like her here . Her chemistry with JoInSung!?❤️
But their story was not enough for me.
And the family finally got together. Could have shown a little more of their family time with the Adorable BongSeok. ??
Huisoo and her father. My most favourite. Father's love for daughter?. My weakness. Also the actress who played huisoo's mom looked somewhat similar to her. That actually gave the feeling of them as Real mom and daughter.
And the adorable family of KangHoon, their Teacher, the student kiSoo. Bungaeman. Liked all the characters.
The villains are the poorest souls. Just like the heroes, they wanted to protect their family too. Felt bad for them. ? The flying man, Giant Guy. And The one who can make waves by his hands. My heart just sank for him. He just wanted die in the end, still they didn't leave him alone. ?. Glad the giant guy ended up with huisoo and her father, no matter however it happened. In the end everyone wanted to survive and live on.
The girl who can see through. Somewhat guessed her to be alive. But her position right now is shocking. What the heck really happened with her. Her mom tried to prevent her from going there. She still chose to go to there. She is one mystery.
But wish to see the guy who can manipulate time if there season 2 on the way.
Also the guy Alex. Expected him to be alive too. The question is, what side will he choose to stand with if there is season 2.
Should have had more episodes and each episode should have little more length.
Overall a Roller coaster ride.

So hi...

Moving was a drama with amazing cast, acting and storyline. I watched it all, but for me it didn't deserve that 10. Don't hate me for that - taste shouldn't be discussed!!! I only stayed for the kids storyline, the parents' one didn't captivate me. Call me boring, sorry. So my opinions are mostly based on the kids storyline.
Acting was amazing. They were extremely cute and Heesoo and Bongseok were such a pleasure to watch. Show stealer KangHoon ( Kim DoHoon) showed me once again why he is one of my favs.
I am honestly sorry I couldn't like this show as much as the people on tiktok and so. The hype was mindblowing tbh. Everyone was and still is so obsessed with it - it wasn't like that for me ... sadly.

Loved the relationships

It was like watching a Korean Marvel movie. Sure, there were some plot holes, but in general there was plenty of action and plenty of heart. For me, I liked the episodes with the adults the best. How their relationships began and progressed. I also liked the relationship between Joo Won and Doo Shik.

Off of the top of my head, I can't remember the last time I totally fell in love with a character like I did Bong Seok. Just a big teddy bear of a young man, with that intrinsic sweetness always on display. His relationship with Hee Soo was so cute! They seemed like a couple that, on the surface, would never work. But they both had secrets, were loners and I think they found their kindred spirit in the other.

I have already recommended this show to someone. The only reason it doesn't have a higher score from me:
- way too much blood, violence
- terrible language. Sometimes what they were saying was not a curse word, and when it was, why did they have to print it? This is something I feel very strongly about and am really bothered by.
- the setup for a season 2. Why? I'm not liking this current trend of dividing the show in half or having a season 2.
-I would have loved to see a bit of Bong Seok and Hee Soo together at the end.

So, I'd say give it a try. You'll probably like it.

Great Action

I loved the mix of action and storyline. Not once did I get aggravated with the characters. There was a good mix of fighting and building up the story. Even the back stories were interesting to me. I’m looking forward to a second season. I would recommend and rewatch (I usually do not rewatch shows). ?? ?? ???????? ?? ???????? ?? ???????? ?? ???????? ?? ???????? ?? ??????

not sure about this...

so, as my favourite male actor is Park Hee-soon, I was waiting for this drama quite eagerly.
Also several other great actors on the starring list, so I started watching this and...
...I don't know... story is known from other formats before with some variations (x men etc.), the story starts veeery slowly, and I was just waiting for something to... happen really? I have seen 8 episodes yet, not Park Hee-soon in sight? Is he really in this drama?
Not sure about the storyline either, so genetically gifted people have genetically gifted kids and they try to hide and protect them from the evil forces of the North? I will give this another chance and watch some more episodes, but as of yet I am a bit underwhelmed.

Superhero Goodness.

This show is very good. Pacing is good. CGI is good. Acting is good. Everything is SUPER-good. :)

I was thoroughly surprised when watching this show for the first time that I accidentally binged all 7 episodes during the first week. Although the pacing isn't very fast, every moment and second of of each episode is worth to look at. Character backgrounds, fight scenes, and stories are all very well made. I also really love Bongseok and Huisoo's Chemistry on the screen. It isn't your typical high-school romance trope, and it feels very wholesome.
