This is just what I've been looking for, a…

This is just what I've been looking for, a little more "realistic" kdrama. With realistic I don't mean that other series are too fictional, but I think too many dramas nowadays try to look cool and trendy to a point where even the poor people living on the street have designer clothes. And that is what ruins the series for me.

The plot seems well written and the dialog has more depth and content than many other new dramas. The idea is also new, which is good!

Acting is also on point, not overacting, but with a realistic feeling and good actors/actresses. I haven't seen any series from Yoo Seung Ho before, but based on this hour I've already started to like his acting. And Park Min Young is as good as always! I love how she always acts with both her heart and brains! (:D)

The first episode gave a good start to the series and I look forward to the next episode. Yay!

An AWESOME start!

Thankfully already the first episode didn't disappoint me and not only fulfilled my expectation but also surprised me positively.
Seo Jin Woo is exactly that kind of character I love. A tragic geneious, young and innoccent at the beggining. And Yoo Seung Ho just pictured him perfectly with his awesome acting skills.
Park Min Young's character seems also the way I like her roles. It seems her role here will be just like Chae Yeong Shin in Healer.
The plot is already veery interesting and I can imagine it to get even more thrilling.
What I didn't expect is that this gangster lawyer doesn't seem to be a 'bad' guy. from the teasers and the posters i thought he is villian boss and that I'll hate him. But I think it will turn out the exactly other way. I'll love him. Since he was following Gyu Man he must have some evidence or have witnessed something of the crime and so he'll become an important ally in solving the case. Not only bc he knows, but also bc he IS an experienced lawyer!
I'm so excited about this drama and all the characters that I won't be watching the second episode yet. I'll wait a little so I can marathon this.

Not fan of the angle...at times

There is only one reason - or rather one person - why I'm giving this a 6. And that's Nam Gung Min (delicious as a baddie) - if it weren't for him, I will give this 1/10 stars. Park Min Young was underwhelming in her role, and although Yoo Seung Woo is able to portray a wide range of emotions - I felt his talent was misused or understated here.

A clear example is the bus scene. Park Min Young's character thinks someone's stolen her wallet, and hijacks the entire bus and orders them to the police station. At the police station, you seem some whizzy fancy effects, and Yeo Seung Woo's character literally walks us step by step of what happened, and that he actually witnessed the crime taking place with his eidetic memory. Then he points at the wall at the culprit, and everyone on Viki in the timed comments were going crazy about how cool it was.

No.

They played the wrong angle. If Seo Jin Woo knew exactly who took the wallet, the fact he was planning to get of the bus without telling the victim, or caring to let her know, shows a deeper insight into his character - that he isn't morally just and can quite happily witness crimes and push it to the back of his mind (this point should've been pressed more heavily forward.) This can be a direct contrast to the "good lawyer" role he's going to later take on (I'm assuming) and will make him a more well-rounded character. The director should've shown us JW noticing the crime from the beginning, but choosing not to say anything. Not try to make the audience go, "Oooh, how smart..." (which some viewers fell for.) If they were going to show JW's outstanding memory, I would've preferred it for something much more...grander or something minuscule if that makes sense. Either go all out, or weave it into the plot naturally.

Nam Gung Min's character is deliciously dark and one-dimensional to date. But the fact he purely provided an antagonistic note was much needed and welcome, when everyone else was being rather underwhelming. I will watch the next episode to see how things evolve.
