The upcoming K-movie Hijacking is reportedly inspired by real-life incidents.

Hijacking tells the story of people fighting for their lives in an extreme situation when a passenger plane is hijacked in the airspace of Korea in 1971. The K-movie stars Ha Jung Woo, Sung Dong Il, Yeo Jin Goo, and Chae Soo Bin

Hijackings were at their peak between 1968 and 1972, with a total of 325 incidents having taken place over five years (according to statistics from the Federal Aviation Administration of the US). Then, strengthening the security measures led to a decline in hijacking incidents. In January 1971, a passenger plane departing from Sokcho Airport and bound for Gimpo Airport was hijacked. Drawing inspiration from such real-life events, Hijacking vividly portrays the intense struggles of people on board amidst extreme circumstances.

Ha Jung Woo remarked, "I first learned that something like this happened through the script of Hijacking, and I was amazed that such a dramatic incident actually occurred. The beginning of the story is based on a real incident, and the film also promises fun and suspense."

Director Kim Sung Han said, "When I heard the story of the 1971 airplane hijacking incident, I thought this is quite an extraordinary story like no other in the world. I believed there would be many things we could do by turning this [incident] into a film."

Here are some behind-the-scenes stills.

Hijacking will be released on June 21.
