Actor Kim Sung Cheol drew criticism for participating in a controversial Instagram poll.
On February 3, Kim Sung Cheol's agency Story J Company shared its official statement regarding the controversy surrounding the actor.
Actor Kim Sung Cheol is facing criticism online after it was discovered he interacted with an Instagram account that posts sexually suggestive content about female K-pop idols. The account is known for sharing slow-motion videos and close-ups of the idols' bodies, which many consider inappropriate and disrespectful.
Kim Sung Cheol's agency admitted the actor's mistake, stating, "Kim Sung Cheol recognizes his error because of his carelessness. However, he did not follow or continuously engage with the account's content in question. Upon realizing that the account is controversial, he immediately withdrew his vote."
The agency also apologized for the impact on other artists, saying, "We sincerely apologize for the negative impact this has had on other artists. We have contacted their respective agencies to express our apologies. This incident arose from a lack of attention and will serve as a learning experience. We will be more cautious in our social media activities to prevent similar occurrences in the future."
Last year, Kim Sung Cheol led the Netflix original K-drama Hellbound Season 2 with Kim Hyun Joo, Kim Shin Rok, Hong Eui Joon, Yang Ik June, Lee Re, and more. He replaced actor Yoo Ah In, who was embroiled in a controversy that led him to step down from all his upcoming projects.
This year, Kim Sung Cheol will star in the upcoming K-drama Boyfriend on Demand alongside BLACKPINK's Kim Ji Soo, Seo In Guk, Ryu Abel, Kang Min Woo, Park Ji Ho, and Song Ha Na.
He will also join the upcoming films The Old Woman with the Knife and Project Y.
