Flower Boy Ramyun Shop understands exactly what kind of show it is. Rather than aiming for “deeper meaning,” it’s happy to frolic in the world of sunny farce, parodying and rehashing drama clichés with gleeful abandon. The initial episodes are a bit cringe-inducing, but once the drama jettisons its questionable teacher-student dynamic, things improve tremendously. The plot meanders, but the cast is charming, and the writing actually gets better towards the end, with a final episode that is both roll-on-the-floor hilarious as well as a remarkably clever encapsulation of the show’s themes. That those themes include the world’s longest extended poop metaphor is, depending on your tolerance for such things, either a stroke of genius or a reason to run.

It’s also fun to see a heroine blast the Cinderella archetype to smithereens. There are no damsels in distress here, and the show dares to suggest that following your hormones instead of your head can be not only psychologically healthy, but, gasp, a whole lot of fun as well. Soulmates are nice, but sometimes good old fashioned lust works just fine too.

I actually started this drama because of the fuss around it. Mostly, in "Flower Boy Ramyun Shop" you will probably find the normal recipe of Kdramas. Rich boy falls in love with the poor girl. Just that this drama was somehow extra childish, but at the same time they did maintain the seriousness when was the case.

Acting was good, a little exaggerated here and there. Just that I,personally, didn't feel the spark/chemistry between the characters.

The OST, the same as the drama doesn't have any 'seriousness' to it. But I do enjoy listening it even after I finished the drama. The lyrics are rather 'joyful'and is a real pleasure to listen. At some point you will find yourself humming the songs, especially Yoon Sae Ha - "Loving Loving'.

Overall, 'Flower boy ramyun shop' is a good drama to watch if you don't have anything else to watch. Nothing really serious, just the normal, typical 'fluffy' drama.

sooooooooo: older woman falls for cute rich guy, extremely hot second male lead competes for her affections, hijinx ensue

the above describes a good number of korean dramas, but what sets this drama apart from those is that it remains completely humorous and light-hearted. this drama uses korean drama cliches (and there's a bit of makjang) but handles them in a fresh and original way.

definitely recommended!

Maybe I missed something along the way, but it was hard to suspend my belief and get myself invested into the story. Honestly, I could believe the actions and the paths the characters take, for me they don't make sense.

With this drama, I felt disappointment as I had high expectations in the first episodes. In the beginning, the drama felt cutesy, and quirky but it quickly lost its appeal for me.

I guessed the only storyline that made sense was the one between the coach and the friend of Eun Bi(? is that the name)

All other stories honestly didn't make sense.

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut, there is one thing that saves this drama from utter disaster for me, and that is Cha Chi Soo. I don't wanna say this because it could be a spoiler so I'll warn you.

========Spoiler========

Best first kiss. There I said it, best kiss.

This was my second drama I ever watched. I looked for light comedy just for entertaining. Then I saw 9gag pic which presents one scene of Flower Boy Ramen Shop and I knew that I must see it. After reading synopsis I thought that will be ordinary romance between teacher and her pupil. I was wrong. Plot positively surprised me.

But now I write some words about main characters.

Yang Eun Bi (Lee Chung Ah), 25 year old, pretending to be a teacher, woman. At first sight, she’s not beautiful, but has something in her eyes. It’s nice to watch her. She also acted very well. The best was her mimic! Adorable and amazing!

Cha Chi Soo (Jung Il Woo) is mentioned pupil. Son of director of huge corporation which handle with lot of things. For instance restaurants and schools. He grown up in world where you can get everything when you have money. I didn’t like him at first. Only one thing was good in him. We’re from the same year ;) But thanks to his behavior there was lot of funny gags. He is convincing in his acting. Both in comedy scenes and the ‘tragic’ ones.

Choi Keng Hyeok (Lee Ki Woo), is very mysterious. He has ‘dark’ past. He’s Korean, but grown up in Japan. He’s good cook, and chef of tile ‘Ramen Shop’ At first he act as typical comedian character, but over time we see him from more romantic side. He’s totally opposite of Chi Soo. My favorite character! He also act well.

During watching this drama you can see war between this two men. They both are roosters, but not from same year. It’s some kind of symbolical generation battle. According to symbols. This story goes around restaurant. Some characters used cooking metaphors and symbols to describe people characters or feelings.

It’s worth to write something about supporting characters in this drama. They’re as expressive as main ones. Everyone has own history. Some of them have surprising final.

It’s time to describe music. Soundtrack is good. There is few very good or even beautiful songs. Several of them even have a role in plot.

There is also one thing which made me want to see next episode. Most of them was ended by cliffhangers. But in next episode we don’t see reveal of scene, but flashback describes reasons of this situation.

To sum up I recommend this drama to people who want to watch romance as well to people who want to see comedy with funny gags. This ramen was really taste!

Story- I wasn't to sure about this at first because there's kind of a student teacher relationship. I'm a future teacher so I'm completely against this. So it took me two tries to watch this. Actually one of my friends had watched the first few episodes and told me to just keep watching. I'm not considering that a spoiler because it happens so early in this storyline. The lead male is a little too controlling at times, and I have a problem with that too. There are lots of funny and cute scenes all through out this drama that's what really saved the story I think. There were times when I wanted to kill some characters, but let's be honest that happens in every drama.

Cast- I think the whole cast did a very good job and made me want to watch more of their other dramas/ movies. There were things Jo Yoon Woo's character did in this drama that slightly reminded me of Key from Shinee. Also Park Min Woo looked like he could have been related to Jay Park. I think it was the costuming or something. Their characters were my two favorite supporting roles.

Rewatch- I would rewatch this eventually.

Overall- I would recommend this to someone, but I would give them a disclaimer about the beginning. I really liked the cast.

A new Cinderella Tale
After reading the title you might wonder who played the role of Cinderella. Maybe, I should have written "from riches to rags and back".
Confused now? Don't worry, I felt the same way while I watched this drama.
I must admit that this drama's plot and twist and turns weren't always that convincing. Everything seemed to be a bit rushed, especially the ending.
Nevertheless, let me explain why I still think of this drama as one of my favourite ones:
First of all, the male leads were both charming and convincing in their roles .
The bromance between the male actors was really funny and cute.
And I don't think that there was any boring episode.
Ok, it might be the case that Jung Il Woo looked a bit too old for his role. After all, he played the role of a young student. But come on, without him the drama wouldn't deserve the name "Flower Boy".
And I think, if a young one played his role, the romance part would be messed up.
And not forgetting the pillar! (Lee Ki Woo)
The way he always said stuff like "Ah, this is so tiring" cracked me up.
The female lead did a great job as well. Her acting improved a lot over the years and she was really convincing in the role as the "tough, rough and ready" girl.
From my point of view, the real charm of this drama lies in the fact that it is a funny, light and warm-hearted drama.
Of course, it wouldn't be a Korean drama if there aren't tears of joy, sadness and anger. However, when it comes down to it, I just can repeat this: it is a funny, light and warm-hearted drama.
Don't expect a sophisticated plot. It is a simple one and that's nothing bad.
The romance part...well, I don't want to ruin the fun. Just let me say this: it is a cute romance and you should give it a try!

Story: The story itself isn't anything new. Two guys like one girl and she likes them. One guy is rich and snobby, the other is poor and friendly, and the female lead isn't much to look at. It had a very 'Boys Over Flowers' feel to it at first, and I really dislike that drama, so I was expecting to dislike this one as well. On the contrary, I actually really liked this. It started off with a lot more comedy than most, then it slowly ventured into the romantic side, and ended in a mix of both that I thought was perfect.

While the main guy of this, much like the lead in BOF, is rich, snobby, and completely unaware of anything other than himself, watching him change is what made his character bearable. It doesn't happen with a simple snap of the fingers, and it doesn't take the whole show for it to finally come about, and that was nice.

I see people comparing this to 'Secret Garden' a lot of the time, and I don't really understand it. Granted, I haven't seen that drama in a while, but what I do remember from that I don't recall ever seeing in FBRS. So, if you love SG, and the comments about that have turned you off from this, don't let it.

Acting/Cast: This was, without a doubt, the best part of the show.

Jung Il Woo was fantastic as Cha Chi Soo, Lee Ki Woo was the perfect choice for his role, and even though Lee Chung Ah wasn't really impressing me for the first half of the show, she impressed me during the last half.

Park Min Woo and Jo Yoon Woo were by far my favoring two members of this cast. They had this amazing chemistry together, and it made watching them interact my favorite thing to do. The relationship between those two completely surpassed the relationship between the main characters for me. Park Min Woo had this one moment during the last episode that just killed me. If I was giving out awards for the best cast choice, he would get it.

Music: A couple of the songs weren't really to my liking, but the music wasn't bad. Jung Il Woo's song got played kind of often the last 1/4 of the show or so, but his voice is really soothing, so I never got tired of hearing it.

Rewatch Value: I've now watched this twice if that says anything.

Overall: Overall, it was an enjoyable drama to watch. It had funny moments, it had happy moments, and it had sad moments. The only two things I could think to complain about would be the ending and the male lead's father.

The last 1-2 episodes felt incredibly rushed. Like they just wanted to toss in everything they could before it was over, and I was definitely not liking that.

As for the father, the actor was good; it was the character that needed to be fixed. He started off nice and adorable, and then turned into the typical rich father of these shows, and I hated it; especially since they waited to long to do it. If it had been right at the beginning, it would've been a lot better.

(Tl;dr: at the bottom) Okay, I'm rewriting my review on this because last night or specifically this morning I was full or rage against this drama. I am honestly so surprised at how well like it is. The main thing that stuck out for me was the plot. It had many cliches that I have already seen in the drama world, and the biggest problem was that this drama didn't deliver them that well. I'll just compile a quick list now.

Main male protagonist is a hot tempered, "never experienced true love" before, spoiled brat who is also the heir to a huge company of some sorts: Boys over Flower/Hana Yori Dango
Strong willed female protagonist who isn't the best at love but by the end everyone in the drama adores her: Most of Yoon EunHye's dramas (Goong, Lie to Me)
Big cuddly extremely nice third wheel that will never get the girl no matter how much you shoot at the drama: Full House, but there are examples of nice third wheels in most romcom Asian dramas.

Okay this isn't really a review anymore but more just me pointing out cliches and I've only noted a few cliches out of the many that appeared. I just want to emphasis on how the main plot and love triangle were ideas (I'm sure there's a better word than ideas) I've already seen before, and done a lot better.

Looking back, I remember specifically just skimming most of the episodes - reading only the subtitles and skipping all dialogue between the love triangle - in hope to see that this drama could somehow take a dramatically good change and actually become as great as some have described it to be; but no, it didn't happen, and in the end I just felt like it was a waste of downloads and a waste of time.

Tl;dr: Too many cliches. Plot was boring, female lead was way too wishy washy but somehow a lot of people ended up liking it....
Recommends to: I guess if you're new to dramas then this could be a start, or if you want some eye candy. But if you're looking for a quality drama, stay well away from this one.

I think the story is too shallow and the characters are too rigid. It could have been better off as a sit-com or the like since there are scenarios capable of good laughs. Indeed, the actors are great but even their great acting didn't compensate for the mediocrity. The drama didn't offer something more than the superficial.

I started watching this show simply based on all the hype and I only completed it b/c of Park Min Woo & Lee Ki Woo. I will admit FBRS had its sweet/cute/funny moments but overall I was underwhelmed. I was more invested in the secret relationship between Dong Joo & Coach and the Ba Wool/Hyun Woo 'couple' then I ever was in Chi Soo & Eun Bi. Chi Soo was a frustrating character to root for; I found him overly aggressive & obsessive, as well as emotionally stunted (which made sense since he was still a teenager). Simply blaming his father for his behavior is a cop-out IMO. I did finally soften on CS the last 2 episodes but that doesn't make up for the other 14 where I personally didn't care for him. The show wasn’t horrible but it never matched the hype in my eyes. ***This show grew on me more & more since originally finishing & reviewing it. I still think the story & character development was all over the place, but I found myself thinking back on random moments & smiling or laughing months later. Overall, there's more to like about this show then there is to hate.
